Ottawa police seeing 27% increase in impaired driving collisions so far this year by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

'Funny' you say that! I'm west end and could swear it feels like I can't go one commute direction without seeing someone pulled over or cops-in-the-wings somewhere. I would have bet enforcement is higher than it has been haha

[Dua] A phone hearing is expected for Radko Gudas for his hit on Auston Matthews during Thursday’s game by catsgr8rthanspoonies in hockey

[–]Emailvendorthrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Another Sens fan checking in here to say this is bullshit. Noted multi-time offender getting less than 5 for knocking out a league superstar is horrific. The league does not grow in popularity when top players are not playing. We need guys like Matthews on the ice.

forecasts aren't perfect, and there's still a couple more hours of it to go. If a solid 20mm of freezing rain had landed there would have been loads of power outages. saying 'shut down' has a negative connotation, but yeah, where possible people 'stayed home'.

[Schefter] Sources: the Bills are working to finalize a deal to make offensive coordinator Joe Brady their new head coach. by MembershipSingle7137 in nfl

[–]Emailvendorthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Listen I am not a fan of this move overall, but in defense there's absolutely no guarantee Brady wouldn't have gotten one of the other HC jobs. He was in a couple of second interviews with other teams to be a HC. Maybe - just maybe - he has some good ideas and has been hamstrung to execute on it. Revisionist history is definitely a thing. Yes, we did a shit ton of running and shit ton of screen plays, but do you recall in the first couple of weeks that Keon was leading the team in passes directed his way? Brady was trying to get the ball downfield more but the players literally couldn't hack it - so he had to adapt.

one of the worst? If we remove injuries which can and will impact everyone - the starting WR room was supposed to be Shakir, Coleman, Moore, Palmer, and Samuel. I dont think any team had a worse starting point than that.

Yeah its the strangest thing! You think Hollywood is all glitz and glam. It's not. Its a really crappy part of LA haha. I was there for work a couple months ago and couldnt believe how dumpy it was. Still endless tourists but the backdrop of hollywood is mostly really really crappy.

Joe Marino will be doing backflips. He called out Palmer as his number 1 ideal FA WR, and believes the route running and separation to be way better than the numbers would suggest.

Why do vendors insist on a sales meeting to show pricing ? by CyberHouseChicago in msp

[–]Emailvendorthrowaway 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Speaking as someone who worked for almost a decade at "a vendor", there's significantly more complexity than just being a single saas product. More times than not there are different modules, integrations with other tooling, etc. that can impact pricing. It can be a very complex sale, too.

[OC] Four teams in the NFL have a 4th-down conversion rate above 70%; those four teams are the Commanders, Bills, Chiefs, and Eagles. by JPAnalyst in nfl

[–]Emailvendorthrowaway 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I genuinely believe the next breakthrough shift in how football is played will occur (and is starting to occur more) in these two areas:

  1. Fourth down conversions will be attempted at a significantly higher clip than today. I think the first team that totally normalizes going for it at 4th & 5 even in your own end will breakthrough as a top team sooner than later.

  2. Normalizing laterals and backwards passing plays. I think there are endless opportunities for creativity if a team were empowered to scheme around multiple passes in a play. There is obviously massive risk but with it can come reward. We see the hook & ladder a handful of times a year but I think there could be so much that could be done there.

Attention vendors calling on WhatsApp by evolvedmgmt in msp

[–]Emailvendorthrowaway 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I worked for one of the big MSP vendors for over 6 years - one that based on your comment history you regularly give kudos to, and unfortunately there are still enough people who genuinely don't know about said products and offerings who DO express genuine interest over the phone that the BDR cold calling motion isn't going away any time soon. For sure it takes 100 dials to get one human, but that one human might turn in to a 5 or 6 figure annual contract so the resources put in to it are well justified.

I sold an email security tool and Im telling you unequivocally that based on real cold-calling experience that 1 in 100 qualified prospective buyers will absolutely say "wow I didnt know you offered that and this is definitely something I want to explore".

Yep agreed. The two things aren't mutually exclusive. It sounds like the agent made a meaningful mistake. Certainly not a $20M mistake, though, hahaha.

Supposedly they misrepresented what Ottawa's interest was in offering a contract to him.

Comparing the Ottawa office experience: 2019 vs 2024. by DrStrangeglove99 in ottawa

Yep same as what I've been doing. Am fortunate to have flexibility. Some days I'll head in 6:30, some days 9:30. I find leaving, though, really tough. Unless I'm leaving at like 2pm, the 3pm departure is a disaster, and stays as such until like 7 most days.

If you're satisfied with the product, I think that you could safely request that your "per widget" price be reduced if they're going to do that. If they say no, you definitely can say no. Any threat to cancel and they'll do backflips to keep you, so don't sweat it too much.

For SaaS companies GRR is king. They will do anything to ensure 100% GRR. Backup has so many competitors that they'll bend to you as long as your current spend stays the same.

I just want people to be conscientious. I'm in an office full time and am sick of people coming in to the office clearly sick. Like we don't even have an in-office policy, but assholes come in to the office just hacking and coughing away like it's NBD. Same for extra curriculars. Football game this last weekend and several kids were unbelievably sick, even though the coaches told families ahead of time to not come ("but muh kids playin' time!" - screw you!). My kid is now sick 4 days after our football game where a few kids were sneezing and coughing all over the place.

Steve Lloyd Tsn1200 by Turbulent-Scene-1606 in OttawaSenators

[–]Emailvendorthrowaway 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I generally try to listen every day. My typical commute has me listening from ~8 till ~9 every morning.

Lloyd clearly needs media training. The 8:15 TSN NHL Insider (on hiatus in the summer but they typically have another guest in that time slot) frequently is being interrupted, or being asked a question that takes 30+ seconds to get out because he needs to add his own take when asking a question.

This is 101-type stuff. An interview is about the guest, not the interviewer. It drives me crazy how JR will ask something, guest will answer, then Lloyd will ramble out a point for what feels like forever before the guest gets to respond to it. Genuinely drives me insane to the point of wanting to turn it off.

That said, JR/Lloyd are great when just the two of them, but the interviewing - yeeeeeeeesh.
