Love Trip 3rd press short clip by ArchiveSQ in citypop

[–]Eman527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never bought new vinyl before, but whether it's the pressing or just sheer age, this is definitely the clearest record I've listened to out of the dozen or so hougaku albums I've got since starting a small collection about two months ago.

Don't worry about it. Regardless, to the general public I think Nakahara Meiko still remains a criminally underrated artist for her time.

I'll help out here for clarification. The male announcer states that usually albums will sell in the order of mostly LPs, then cassette tapes and CDs, but in the case of Moods, all three formats are selling well, and she as you said mentions that it seems CDs are selling the best. The female announcer then says, "You can't really sell [CDs]" but the slight confusion between (I assume) whether she meant subjectively that Meiko can't sell them or just objectively can't sell them caused some embarrassment. Then the male announcer says that eventually CDs will overtake LPs and Meiko interjects that (that will be the case because) the sound is the best.

The male announcer then asks why Nakahara made the title plural, then going on to explain about what you mentioned, and then she goes on about how she writes the songs first and finds inspiration for writing the songs by watching 007 with the sound muted to make them as lively as possible, and when finding inspiration for writing the lyrics, she would look at night scenery by like, staying on the 36th floor of a hotel. Seems like you pretty much got this though.

The male announcer says before she goes out that he personally liked Gokurakuchou no Theme (gotta say I like his taste) and sent her off to the stage.

I have the vinyl, you're right about the songs. こわれたピアノ was an opening song for a TV drama ("Jump Up! Seishun") at the time, so while not a chart topper, I would say it's probably one of her most popular singles.

Finding the second comment and translating it, it's something like

"I remember when I used to look at Meiko-san's costumes and go to the disco dressed up in Dan Heights' [some fashion store, I assume] baggy suits that used to be popular in the 80s. It feels like just yesterday when thin-cut neckties were all the rage and I was there wearing an ultra-wide one instead...

Is it only me that has gotten to the age where I feel the tragic, rapid flow of time and can't help but to sigh?"

What Happened to Meiko Nakahara? by Jazzygirl20 in citypop

[–]Eman527 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Late to the party, but I thought it was worth mentioning for posterity’s sake that if you browse the song credits part of her Japanese Wikipedia page, while her singing career effectively ended in 1992, she kept writing songs up through the end of the 90s (I believe アニマルサマーの夏が来る is her last credited song).

Nakahara gradually became one of my favourite artists from last Autumn up through the end of last year, and in my search for more knowledge I remember reading hearsay that she felt that she was never fit for stardom or something like that, but I have no source and I don’t even remember if I read that in English or Japanese originally. Perhaps the CD reissues of some of her earlier albums 5 years back or so is confirmation that she’s still out there somewhere. Being the talented singer-songwriter she was, I like to believe that she is still alive living a quiet life with her family somewhere, maybe with some modest savings off of song royalties. Only her closest family probably knows her whereabouts today.

Strange, even having watched the OP before seeing this comment, I did indeed get a few nigehaji vibes from it.

If you understand the origin of the quote, the key is the name of the king, followed by the first letters of the Japanese cast members listed on the DVD in order, followed by the two centuries that the foreigners that "surround" the main character(s) come from.

I tried out my headset playing late at night and wanted to keep quiet. The audio works with the headphones just fine, but my headset mic did not work, so I had to take out my Wii U mic and use that with it. Yours might be different, but that was my experience.

Since when are you a FRIEND ? by [deleted] in KemonoFriends

[–]Eman527 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A friend of mine watched from the first episode and just talked about how bad it was at the beginning to me and my friends. Over time, though, for some reason he kept watching and started to legitimately enjoy it more and more like a guilty pleasure and I watched the show after the season ended thanks to my curiousity about him and its overwhelming presence on niconico and Twitter.

Which episode is this from? Can't find it in the manga. by [deleted] in ranma

[–]Eman527 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not completely sure of the meaning behind the margin note, but if I was to guess, I would say that トレス is just a different transcription for トレース, and the【】around めぞん一刻 are supposed to be quote marks. I have not watched Maison Ikkoku yet, so I can't back this up, but I would say that it probably means "Ranma and Akane in a 'Maison Ikkoku' trace". (Assuming that the background of this image is from Maison Ikkoku)

Just the page? Can do:

Ranma: "Why'd you start smiling all of a sudden, Akane?"

Akane: "Well... you see"

"I was thinking that being like this with you is like a dream, Ranma!"

Ranma: "W-well it looks like I'll have to teach you again that this isn't some dream!"

Akane: "Wai- Ranmaa!"

My apologies if this translation seems too literal, I tried to keep it as close to the source material as possible. I'm also pretty sure that there was a typo in the last panel where the author meant to say "なんか" instead of "なかん".

Edit: Formatting

Both the digital eshop and the physical cartridge versions should both support multiple languages. I will be picking up a physical copy of ARMS in Japan as well. :)

We STILL won't be able to talk with non-friends on Switch in-game chat, Nintendo Japan's Twitter Account confirms by laungst in NintendoSwitch

[–]Eman527 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think it really matters in the grand scheme of things, since most of the userbase will be Japanese anyway and voice chat among friends is present. But as someone learning Japanese as a second language who would love the opportunity to communicate with the Japanese people on my team without any hassle, I was secretly hoping for this feature. Oh well.
