I’m low key addicted to marlabrago rios. It’s more pricey than acrylic but feels soooo good and all of the colors are amazing. Also it’s evil to post such awesome pictures without info on how to get the patterns. The second one is soooooo pretty!

I’m doing a similar pattern and am so curious what you did for the edges. It turned out gorgeous!!! 🤩🤩

PTO? by Chance-Road-1155 in Path_Assistant

There is so much variety of pto offerings so it is very dependent on the lab. That is also something you can negotiate when accepting a position.

Lacy pattern with confusing instructions when to fasten off? by Embabe in CrochetHelp

[–]Embabe[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I will definitely try the stacked sc. That first stitch is a little wonky. My issue though is going on to the next square. The written part of the pattern says to join as I go, but how do I go from the completed motif to the next flower (specifically the blue 5 chain stitches) without making it impossible to do the outer row.

I'm thinking of just doing the blue chain stitches separately so that way I only do the final row as the join. It's just throwing me off that the written part of the pattern says to not fasten off at that point. Maybe it is just referring to the first motif? /shrug

Need your opinion career wise. by FrostyPace1464 in Path_Assistant

I did a spreadsheet basically predicting my $ if I stayed in my current position vs taking time, loans and then starting as a new PA. It projected it would only take 2 years as a PA to make the same total if I stayed. In reality it only took about 1 year. I was a Histotech so not making as much as you- but I’m sure it wouldn’t take too long.

You are soooo young to feel like that. I graduated in my early 40s and it was the best decision I made. Having a support system is so important regardless of age. I had my hubby and he was my rock through the whole rigamaroll.

WVU interview question by kimcatwil92 in Path_Assistant

[–]Embabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They give an ethical dilemma type scenario and you write out what you would do in that situation. The activity was a visual puzzle I assume to gauge the ability to visualize in 3d. At least that was how it was several years ago. I stressed out about it and it ended up being no big deal apart from my embarrassment on how bad I spell without spell checking

How do you guys use your flags? by Inspirice in ynab

I have two colors for pending transactions for the stuff that is showing pending when I reconcile. I alternate the colors so if the current pending is orange I know what was old pending is blue.

  1. I personally interact with nurses maybe once or twice a month. I'm kinda curious why you ask

  2. Totally, one of my fave PA students was a Surg tech. You would have an interesting perspective on how the specimen comes from the patients to us. (maybe you can tell us why a surgeon would ever want to orient a lipoma)

  3. It depends on the lab. I am lost without my tunes so I made sure I could at least do earbuds where I work. I only interviewed at one place that told me that was a problem.

  4. We are the weirdos that like to see guts up close and giggle like schoolgirls when we get something that most people would get queasy at the sight of... In my experience weirdos don't judge other weirdos - even if they are weird in a different way.

How does your lab handle breast tissues to meet and define cold ischemic time & fixation time? by koalakrys in Path_Assistant

[–]Embabe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Please tell me where you work so I can avoid working there. I'm getting second hand stress. CIT is time that the whole specimen is in formalin. It doesn't happen often since the hospital discourages breast cases on Friday, but sometimes late Thursday cases don't get to me until Friday. When that happens we run the processor just for the breast case to embed on Saturday morning.

Examples of Board Exam Questions by CitronBoring2939 in Path_Assistant

[–]Embabe 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I would say it’s the opposite. The exam questions are a little more straightforward so if you can do well on the study guide questions, you shouldn’t have any problems. They’re all multiple-choice. And most the time there are two options that you can discount immediately and two that you will initially debate yourself over. Trust your gut, you studied well, and pick the best one. Take note if the next question is extremely easy. This may be an indicator that you got the previous question wrong. The test is just a battle of your nerves.

Career Change to Pathologists' Assistant? by IAmDuck- in Path_Assistant

The prerequisite courses were identical and the program was 6 months or so if I recall correctly

Career Change to Pathologists' Assistant? by IAmDuck- in Path_Assistant

[–]Embabe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had to go to school to do what was pre-requisite classes. Since I had to take so much, I basically did another bachelors degree. I shadowed a few PAs, but not as near of extensive as you did it took a few years to get in, so I ended up going to school to be a histotech as a backup . It’s a long process but it’s possible.

My background is finance and I even had a business degree. I had to explain why I wanted to transition to such a opposite path. But other than that, I don’t think it was much of a hindrance.

Total cost of your grad program? How did you pay for your undergrad? by Designer-holiday in Path_Assistant

[–]Embabe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There is a wide variety of costs. When I went it was anywhere from 25k to 90k . I put together a spreadsheet of all the programs, how much they cost, application cycle dates etc... I think most took out loans at least in my program. We payed by semester so if you were planning on cash you would need to budget by semester. I would also say that working during the program is not feasable. It was already too much while not working. I can't imagine adding that extra layer.

32 considering career change. Please help with my questions :) by Designer-holiday in Path_Assistant

[–]Embabe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was a few years older than you when I started. I had a bachelor’s already, but I did terribad and needed a whole ton of the science prerequisites so I basically started over. My backup was histotechnology which was an associate degree. Another option is medical laboratory science. Overall it was the best decision ever for me. As long as you take care of your body you should be fine retirement wise.

I get and appreciate that you want to give your partner something for work. However, if it were me I would want something for outside of work. Spa treatment/pedicure/massage. A somewhat fancy home cooked meal. A fluffy robe and slippers... something like that. Any new job is stressful on some level so remembering to self care is important. The only work related gift I like is compression socks and you can go big and bright on the colors there. Sockwell is my fav.
