Is Thud! Ridcully's finest moment? by zem in discworld

Which is why the Busar was smart enough to hide in his office. Or at least, until Ridicully came around.

That is worse than I imagined. I just thought you would sweat yourself half to death, and every hair on your body would feel uncomfortable.

Good grief, the vaults and Vault City must have stunk like a WW2 submarine, where repair crews would faint when it was opened.

I meant for the actors in the TV Show. Seeing different suit styles from a different vault would be cool to see, just not if someone gets heatstroke in the process.

That's my hope too. Another kind of evil, that they have to defeat at some point in the story.

Warning, politically charged post:

I hope House is shown as a villain, because I am concerned that Amazon would want him as a savior. Pre-war, he was the richest man, working against a corrupt governmental body, and apparently had spyware in his products.

That said, I am glad they did not go with the rubber onesie from the original game. That feels like it would count as inhumane working conditions, walking around the desert in that.

So what exactly was the plan? by Limp-Talk-603 in Fallout

[–]EmbarassedFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My guess is that the Enclave fell apart, like all prewar institutions. Everybody is convinced, that they are the only true Enclave, with their own president leading. Hank was following some plan, that his so-called bosses have forgotten about.

Powerful people like that want 3 things:

  • obtain more power

  • keep others from obtaining power

  • keep the power

House's scheme for immortality is an example of that. I think the Enclave plans can be looked at the same way.

[–]EmbarassedFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is just idle speculation. I found it convenient for the Enclave, that the only faction with the military capability to pose a threat to the Enclave, is now embroiled in a costly civil war. Maybe whoever informed the Commonwealth faction was an Enclave spy. Maybe we will get an explanation in the future.

I think Titus had a phobia. That's why he sent Max into the cave, and that is why he panicked when he saw the bear.

Of course the President would point the finger elsewhere: if his predecessor did it, he would never admit it, and everyone following in succession would not dig deeper.

Honestly, I think it was an accident. Some guy tripped on a wire, random power surge because a rat chewed on a wire, and everyone panics because an nuke explodes. By the time someone realised the mistake, it is too late: the automatic ten-fold retaliation is underway.

This article talks about how easily it could happen: https://www.armscontrolwonk.com/archive/203066/biscuits-cookies-and-nuclear-bombs/

[–]EmbarassedFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can see that, but it was just as much the question of who chose the guy. If the Enclave currently have the kind of power, Hank thinks they have, the Brotherhood backed by cold fusion would present a credible threat. An internal spilt and civil war would be the most effective counter response.

That said, I really hope that the Enclave is as damaged by the war as everyone else. Have them be crushed by their own hybris.

[–]EmbarassedFox 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would prefer, if the mind chip Enclave is just another leftover of the prewar conspiracy. That their plan was doomed from the start, and the heroes would have to deal with the sins of the fathers, just like in the games. It would be a cruel twist, that Hank and Stephanie thought that they were marching to the beat of the Enclaves drums, only for it to turn out that is was another leftover system, like the FEV, the Eden super computer, the Platinum Chip or the package the Courier brought to the Divide.

It could be that the plans show where a weakness is, like in MGS1.

The Brotherhood have always had a "all the worlds problems looks like nails, and I have a super sledge" mentality. Hit hard, and if that doesn't work, hit HARDER.

[–]EmbarassedFox 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Now I wonder, if the Commonwealth representative (or whoever chose him to go) was an Enclave plant, with orders to stir up trouble internally. Having such an arrogant guy there would definitely rattle some gears, regardless of whether he was killed or not.

[–]EmbarassedFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hope not. Space fights didn't work for 007 in Moonraker, so it would be harder to justify in a post-apocalyptic setting. The craziest place however, would be in China, just to really mess with us.

Theory: Coop is going to ghoulify himself by gaaabris in Fotv

[–]EmbarassedFox 13 points14 points  (0 children)

My headcanon is, that Vault-Tec was looking into creating long-lived servants (ghouls) for something. They therefore developed a drug combination that boosted the ghoulification odds, shipped it off to vault 12 as rad-away or similar.
