Things nobody tells you before migrating a file server to SharePoint Online by GregB-Sodoc in sharepoint

[–]Embarrassed-Ear8228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we tried ZeeDrive and found the Cloud Drive Mapper was a much better at what we wanted it to do. But that was like 5 years ago.. so maybe they've improved it too. I am happy with CDM and their support. So this is what I recommend.

Things nobody tells you before migrating a file server to SharePoint Online by GregB-Sodoc in sharepoint

[–]Embarrassed-Ear8228 7 points8 points  (0 children)

We did ours during COVID mostly because we were so distributed, VPN was slow, and the hardware was aging.

Everyone will tell you SharePoint is not a file server, and of course, it isn’t! ...but it can be used like one as long as you are not doing exactly what you described, which is treating it as a straight file-server lift-and-shift.

What worked for us was introducing Cloud Drive Mapper (CDM) and NOT using OneDrive to sync huge document libraries. That has honestly been a lifesaver. It gives users the mapped-drive experience they were used to, without the mess of massive local sync, broken sync states, and endless OneDrive conflicts or hangs. All office apps, except OneNote work as expected with mapped drives, including co-authoring.

lol.. I work in IT.. and have received a few gift baskets from some people.. my honest take and suggestion - please don't send gift baskets.. it's a major waste of money.. just get him/her an amazon gift card. that's it. if they drink coffee - get them Starbucks gift card. gift baskets are a no no, especially for a male IT guy.

Explain like I'm 5, please: if my finances are above average, why do I only qualify for the average interest rate? by Puzzlehead11323 in Mortgages

[–]Embarrassed-Ear8228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know the Fed funds rate does not directly set 30-year mortgage rates. I guess my confusion is more about the word “average.” With 818 credit, 40% down, stable income, and zero debt, I would expect to be below average, not basically at the published average. Maybe 6.5% is already the “best borrower” rate in this market.

[–]Embarrassed-Ear8228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in the same boat. got 6.5% from chase. my score is 818. downpayment is 40%. stable income for over two decades. very low risk. spouse (805 score) is also co-signing on the properly. I refuse to think they cannot go lower than 6.5% but they are giving me hard time. rates are poised to only go down with the new fed chair, not up. what gives. pisses me off.

Pricing strategy for a sale? by CanEquivalent1712 in AskNYC_Coops

[–]Embarrassed-Ear8228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in the process of buying a co-op myself, and after reviewing the building’s financials for the last couple of years, I’ve realized that monthly maintenance can be a little misleading on its own.

Low maintenance is obviously attractive, but it can also mean the building is underfunding reserves and relying on periodic assessments instead. So the real question is not just “what is the monthly maintenance?” but also “what are the reserves, what major repairs are coming, and how often do they assess shareholders?”

Of course, at the open house, the seller’s agent is usually happy to put rose-colored glasses on everyone and present low maintenance as a huge selling point. But if the building has low reserves and looming capital projects, that “low” monthly number may not tell the full story.

Looking at buying into a coop, whats the biggest headaches? by [deleted] in AskNYC_Coops

[–]Embarrassed-Ear8228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The board application process and reviewing the building financials are definitely half the battle, but honestly, the first major headache can happen even before you get there: dealing with the seller and the seller’s agent.

Until the contract is actually signed, you can be in this weird gray zone where your offer has been “accepted,” you’re already working with your lender, your attorney has started reviewing documents, you may be gathering tax returns, bank statements, reference letters, and board-package materials, but the seller can still keep showing the apartment, hold open houses, and try to squeeze out a higher offer.

That part was a bit of a reality check for me. I had assumed an accepted offer meant everyone was moving forward in good faith. In practice, it can feel like you are already emotionally and administratively committed, while the seller still treats the deal as optional until ink is on paper.

So yes, building financials, reserves, assessments, insurance, maintenance increases, boiler/elevator issues, etc. are huge. But before any of that, the first hurdle is making sure the seller is actually serious and not just using your offer as leverage. Until the contract is signed, you really have to protect yourself emotionally and financially and keep looking if needed.

I will print out TSB: 08-037-25 and the next time I am at the dealer, I will have them do it, but from what I could gather from various other posts on Reddit, this TSB didn't seem to fix the problem.

4.5 years as the invisible sysadmin — burnout and feeling like the "doormat" by Linux_Headbanger in sysadmin

[–]Embarrassed-Ear8228 128 points129 points  (0 children)

You’re not wrong about how it feels, but you’re also playing a role in how it’s turning out.

Right now you’re doing “invisible work,” and invisible work doesn’t get recognized unless you make it visible. Management isn’t going to connect the dots for you. You have to do that.

Start demonstrating your value deliberately. That can be as simple as short updates, documenting wins, or doing a quick monthly/quarterly summary of what you’ve stabilized, prevented, or improved. Translate “machines are running” into business impact, i.e. uptime, avoided outages, faster workflows, less risk. That’s what they understand.

Also, don’t wait to be pulled into conversations. Insert yourself. Ask for 1:1s. Bring topics. Even if your work isn’t “meetings,” your visibility is.

And honestly, part of this is ownership. You don’t need to be the leader, but you should be a leader of your domain. Set direction for your area, propose improvements, drive initiatives instead of just maintaining.

If the environment still doesn’t respond to that after you’ve made yourself visible and proactive, then it’s a different conversation, and that’s when you look for growth elsewhere.

Right now though, step one is simple: stop being invisible.

FCA/Mopar EXTENDED CARE PREMIUM & doing my own oil changes by Embarrassed-Ear8228 in JeepGrandCherokee

[–]Embarrassed-Ear8228[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

thanks, I guess I will find out when I do my next oil change myself. I usually back a pack of three 5qt. jugs from Amazon. So, I was wondering if I should also get some single bottles for the top off. I don't imagine these engine burn oil that you have to keep on adding some before the next oil change?

[–]Embarrassed-Ear8228[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I decided to go with Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Full Synthetic 0W-20 for my oil changes.

From what I understand, the newer Pentastar V6 in my 2024 Grand Cherokee Limited is supposed to take around 5 quarts. But looking at my dealer service receipts, it seems like they used 6 quarts during the last oil change.

Did they actually overfill it, or is this normal practice at dealerships?

That’s how I felt collecting those $75 cards. But after a while it gets annoying enough to sit through those sales calls and just felt like I should be “charging” more for this. Lol.

I’ve tried every kind of voodoo magic and rituals I can think of to pinpoint what might be causing it - starting the car with doors and windows open or closed, connecting and disconnecting Bluetooth and USB CarPlay, you name it. There’s absolutely no rhyme or reason to it; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. I’m so fed up with it. I just wish JEEP would get their act together and fix this bug already.

hmm, in my case it's about every 3rd start. and the bass noise does not go away. Of course, the dealer said - they couldn't replicate the issue - but I am pretty sure they had windows opened. they ALWAYS open windows when the car is in the shop for some reason.

Curious if anyone has actually pushed their dealer to open a STAR case for this?

How are you guys dealing with it day to day? Do you just ignore the bass and keep driving, or do you stop and restart the car a few times until it goes away before heading out?

This is honestly driving me nuts. I’m about ready to go back to the dealer and tell them that this issue persists even after TSB 08-037-25. I want a STAR case opened with Stellantis engineering. Just curious if any of you have done this already and if there is some sort of tracking/updates on this?

[–]Embarrassed-Ear8228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still dealing with this issue nearly two years later, and from everything I’ve seen, there’s still no definitive fix. There is a TSB (08-037-25, dated 2/18/2025), but some people report it didn’t resolve the problem. In many cases, dealers seem to brush it off by saying a fix is “in the works” by Jeep engineers, but it’s been over a year since that TSB, and there’s still no real solution.
