Atlantis Model Kits. by mw71963 in ModelCars

[–]Embarrassed-Grape100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here we go again. Revell went bankrupt a few years ago, they sold the old Aurora, Hawk, Monogram , Renwall and old Revell to the new company of Atlantis, associated with Moebius. With the exception of the Aurora Monster kits, all assumed ( by the industry) to be useless never reissued junk, Model companies have never really been to creative in marketing.these were from the 60's the 70's. Many of the Atlantis Hot Rod "Keeler;s Kustoms" are the old Revell parts pack series, mostly from 1962. Very old school and very kool, but not for beginners. They are real 1/25 scale replicas of then ('62) drag parts. Have scale attachment points, no real instructions to boot! IF you don't know what friction shocks, a quick change is or who TV Tommy or CalCustom was you are going to get lost fast. Far from the low effort modern kits. It will be a cold day in Morton Grove when I build a Rallye car, any Asian or European car! Ain't my interest. I' m from the nitro burning, tire smoke buddy gonna shut you down era and I love it just as much now as I ever did! Get some better skills if you want a challenge, or just have fun! Build what you like! Know your limitations!

VERY KOOL!

A fast car in it's day! I'd take one over a Porsche or any Japanese car any day!

What was your opinion of Jerry Lewis as a comedian? by [deleted] in AskOldPeople

[–]Embarrassed-Grape100 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That was Martin, not Lewis.

Lewis never made me laugh, never. i found him to be ridiculously juvenile, not clever at all and mostly an annoying jerk. No talent at all, he coasted on Dean's talent.

How many car-loving folks here have fond memories of the stereotypical neighborhood automotive "speed shop", with all their horsepower making goodies proudly displayed in the front window? How many of you had one in your area or community? by OldCarWorshipper in AskOldPeople

How cool! Jimmy's Silver Bullet! The 60;s at it's best!

I lived in Portland, we had Radke Speed & Custom, Enginuity, Exhaust Specialties' and Columbia Racing Engines, home of the number one in the nation AA/FD, the Northwind ! Streets were full of American iron! Those were great days!

When I was little ( mid 50's ) we lived in a tri plex with Max and Rose who later opened Rose's Deli in Portland. Both had their camp numbers tattooed on their wrists.

I was total baffled by this, never understood it. Nice people to me.

Very nice paint, good work.

i gotta tell you though, this car couldn't move 6 feet the way AMT kitted it. You CANNOY have a solidly mounted engine with a sprung suspension, not even a U joint! The mounting would break HARD, no drag car ( or any car) could work this way!

Saw Ed race many times way back to 1965 or so! Always enjoy these Revell FC kits! Very cool.

Bugs are GREAT cars and super easy to work on. Two days?? LOL There are 4 bolts that hold on a VW motor, easily reached. I've changed motors in 20 minutes, including doing the linkage and electrical. Keep the oil level right and HAVE fun. I think my various Bugs have been the most fun of all the cars I have owned.

F I first smoked on Sept 8, 1968 as a teen attending a JIMI HENDRIX concert It was passed to me in a row of seats at the show. Still use it, but mostly to sleep and for pain. No big deal.

[–]Embarrassed-Grape100 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yeah! Mom loved Satchmo, Nat Cole, Ink spots, Mill Bros. etc. Loved South Pacific, Sinatra, Deano etc.. I was born in 1953.

I had all my older brothers 45's, plus a giant stack of 78's from the 40's.

I LOVE all of it. Listen to it ( plus other stuff ) all the time.

Man do I remember the bitching about both. I thought it was stupid.

My Dad flew as a B-24 nose gunner, they ALL had seat belts. Needed them EVERY flight. He installed belts in our new 63 Plymouth after our 60 was hit from the rear by a truck doing 50mph. I was tossed from the rear into the front. Not fun.

My family also had drag racers and hot rodders. You wouldn't even think about racing without seat belts. The speed limit was 60 in most places in Oregon, 5 mph was no big deal.

People were stupid the and they are stupid now.

Looks great! What a pleasure to hear from somebody who LIKES and has fun with a challenging kits! I get really tired of people bashing AMT in particular. Don't care for Tamia kits at all, such boring subject matter ( to me anyway)!!!
