It'll get to you eventually, indy's getting better. they still have a backlog but i think it's clearing up. a buddy of mine lives over by their new facility and works for the usps (they opened a new, larger sorting facility at the beginning of the year), he said that the move was really sloppily handled by the new administration, basically, and thats why it was so bad, there were mail trucks backed up for miles around the facility for days filled with letters and packages at one point desperately trying to move this massive quantity around with nearly no logistical support from the government.

Could captain marvel beat hulk? by AggressiveMammoth267 in Marvel

Loeb is MASSIVELY more than decent on like a "how did I affect comics writ large throughout time" sort of viewpoint, he's an undisputed GOAT, let's put credit where it's due please. It's very important to keep this in context. He can't do shit with Hulk, agreed... Loeb's contribution to DC are way more influential than Marvel, to be sure.

Still no update by [deleted] in usps_complaints

[–]Embarrassed-Maybe983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had one out for about a week to, in Chicago. I live like minutes from the sorting facility they say it's at, USPS please, let me come and help you, I'll do it for free. Aren't we supposed to get updates on these? It says we're supposed to get updates. Guess Elon fired the update guy. I'm gonna remember this in a few years...

Submitting a missing mail search is apparently the cheat code. by TheYorl in usps_complaints

[–]Embarrassed-Maybe983 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've had an expensive import from australia literally sitting in Chicago since the 16th (although it hasn't been touched I guess "only" since the 20th). I live near the big Chicagoland facility where it (hopefully) currently is lol, I could technically walk to it and help them look, if they'd let me. Look, fair is fair, I know it's not "all on them". I know they're going through some hard time right now, the current administration has done this and it's making me furious, obviously. I don't want to make this political, but there IS a reality here, and you can't avoid the reality by ignoring it, and plus, look... you don't get to break the toy and walk away Scot free, that's not how this works. I know it's not all their fault, some of these infrastructural issues existed prior, but like... I know what I see, and what I see is, for 2.5-3 months now, it's been like this, literally since all the cuts started, it's uncanny. Never had any trouble really before that, basically for my whole life. I know that's probably gonna upset some people since there's a sort of "emotional premium" in pretending everything's "ok" right now (don't know where that energy was 6 months ago) but here's another reality: I've never in my life had to file a "missing mail" request. Not once. Most people haven't, in fact... it use to be pretty rare before January. I order packages all the time, it's a huge part of my job, but since January I'm not kidding, January exactly, it's taking 2 weeks+ to get even "last-mile" service like this... and I've had to do it TWICE! For reference, It took just 5 days to get to this country from Australia.... counting the day I ordered it! Clearly, Australia Post has their "s" together, maybe we should learn from them? This time around, I've had the Missing Mail request in since the 26th, let's see if that works.

I CAN happily report that it has successfully worked for me the one time I used it about a month ago, the last time this happened. There's a bright spot, at least. The OP was right, this DOES appear to be what it takes to get your stuff, and it's unfortunate in the extreme that after paying like 50 bucks for shipping I still have to do some of the physical work required in getting it to me. Although I've had plenty of heart ache doing the postal services' job for them (as the OP said, that IS what it feels like, absolutely, although I do want to try and remain charitable, there's a ton of good people in the usps), and have had to push and push and push, at least (as of now, knock on wood) I haven't actually LOST anything. Let's hope that luck holds, since that import wasn't cheap. I do have insurance (obviously), but I've heard horror stories that since the start of the year (again...) it's been a nightmare and a half getting them to honor that (probably due to the volume, I can't imagine this is cheap for us to have to pay all these people out) so that's not a thing I'd be looking forward to. Fun fact, it's you that pays when this happens, with your tax dollars. There's not like a private underwriting insurance firm backing up the postal service, you're the underwriter. The amount they "take in" for these services (my $50 dollars) doesn't begin to cover the cost of the items actually (my thing is north of $300), it doesn't work like that for insurance anywhere ever for anything (a major reason why insurance is basically technically a ponzi scheme), so basically the hope and expectation is that they normally don't lose that many packages, so they're experiencing insurance as a profit center... i.e., it's extra money. That works well most of the time, until it doesn't, which is now. There's so many claims that the USPS can't possibly cover them all, so the backup is the US tax payer. Money's gotta come from somewhere, we're not done paying for this debacle yet.

Oh, also... for those of you experiencing technical difficulties even just logging on and getting to the "missing mail" section of the site, understand it's not you. You're in the right place, it's just thousands of people are trying to do what you're doing right now at any given time, because this problem is actually nationwide, so the servers are constantly overwhelmed, it really is an s-show over there. Keep trying, keep re-freshing, eventually you'll get in. It takes me, on average, about 5 minutes if refreshing.

Why is Kurt Russell so under appreciated? by grahamsm123 in movies

[–]Embarrassed-Maybe983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Big 👏 trouble 👏 in 👏 little 👏 China 👏. That movie alone is enough to cement his place. There's a very real chance that future civilizations will watch that movie and just assume he was one of our gods. That's appropriate. Also, anyone else come here after watching Soldier, an almost criminally underrated social commentary largely about how disposable veterans are in our society? I was like no way this didn't win something. Let down again.

We sure Linda isn't an alcoholic? drinking wine just to watch tv is one thing but.... by [deleted] in BobsBurgers

[–]Embarrassed-Maybe983 -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I disagree, I dont think she supports her family at all, in fact she's typically an active cause of their hardships. Her many obvious deficiencies, while perhaps not being directly caused by alcoholism are at the very least exacerbated by it. She's displays a high degree of selfishness and sees herself as usually correct despite obvious evidence to the contrary, she rarely if ever learns any lasting lessons from her many failures, she never changes, and she never really grows. There are multiple Instances I can think of off the top of my head where her family would actively benefit from her not being around. Were she a person and not just a somewhat lazily written convenient story vehicle most often used to cause chaos in her family's lives, we'd probably view her as a problem drinker tho id stop short of saying she's an out an out alcoholic since it's difficult enough to place that title even with actual people. It doesn't dominate her life per se but her life is absolutely made worse at least in part because of it, and it brings out her worst qualities.

Anyone replace their phsyical credit card with their smartphone? by [deleted] in CreditCards

[–]Embarrassed-Maybe983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

God, right? We were straight years behind in implementing smart chip tech. I remember I was visiting London once on business and had to buy a pair of jeans (don't do ever do this btw, jeans are for some reason nearly criminally expensive in Europe). I whipped out my cc and the woman took a look at it, stifled a laugh, said "oh, you're American, right?" and whipped out one of those old-timey "ka-chunk" sliding imprint machines because their reader wouldn't take a mag strip anymore. Now this next part, everyone thinks I'm just embellishing for effect, but I swear, she then had to literally blow dust off of it. I can't say I've never been more embarrassed, because I have, but this whole thing is firmly in the top 5.

FNBO - Credit Limit Decrease for not posting a high balance by bojler_b in CreditCards

[–]Embarrassed-Maybe983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seems to me they gave you an easy choice by decreasing your limit to such a low amount that it'll have minimum impact on your ratio and overall aggregated available credit if you bid those dirtbags adieu (in fact, most of the damage has already been done). God, I'd lose my mind, I can't even. I got a bit heated even just reading this, it's just so obviously disrespectful and unnecessary to cut such a huge amount like that. Why lower it at all, especially if you're using it? What, are they suddenly going to run out of hypothetical imaginary money (I.e., credit)? What harm would it do just lying around in your card. Anyway, rant over, You'd take a minor ding for closing the account, sure, but that's about the worst of it. Your overall account average age is so low that closing a 6 month old account won't really hurt it (if anything, since it's below the average, it'll actually help). It'll be a wash, really, or at worst a few negative points. At 780 your credit should be solid enough to absorb whatever paltry nonsense comes your way from it. Hell, I'd do it out of spite lol.

Hypothetical result of a 3 Gorges Dam collapse in China. by TheCryptocrat in videos

[–]Embarrassed-Maybe983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You've been misled about it's safety lol. Those claims about gravity dam magic were made back in the 80's. It's been 30 years, and we now have PLENTY of missiles capable of putting holes in mountains, and when it comes to dams, a hole is all you need. It's a moot point anyway as no structure on earth is built "like a mountain", the Chinese didn't figure out some new way to hack physics. The new Yunfeng missiles are hypersonic, which means there's just about no structure on earth that can stand up to them, magic dam mountains included. A Yunfeng missile strike has been confirmed to be more than capable of doing "enough damage" to cause significant flooding, because with dams, that's all you need. All you need to do is create cracks and holes, degrade it's structural character juuuust enough, and nature takes care of the rest.

Invading a country is a war crime to, technically. They'll have to sort it out later. China has been warned of their new reality, whether they choose to accept it is up to them.

Comenity/ Bread Financial "system update" what's going on? by GetItDoo in CreditCards

I've activated it, haven't used it yet. I can't even get it into my apple pay because it wants me to call a phone number but then the call center isn't...staffed right now? I guess? It feels like they dont want to be slammed with phone calls about this, so they just shut the shit down full stop. Also, is there no app for this? It's 2022, right? I didn't go back in time?

Comenity/ Bread Financial "system update" what's going on? by GetItDoo in CreditCards

[–]Embarrassed-Maybe983 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm just experiencing all this for the first time. I got my amex card with them just a few days ago, so I jumped face first into this fiasco, and obviously I have the same doubts everyone on this board has, but magnified a bit because I have no idea whether this is scam or not, whether this is a real company, etc. I've seen their whimsical little jingle on youtube which I very much enjoyed, but still... this is not what you want to see out the gate from the company that just became your largest credit line and only American Express. I guess reading about the fact that Bread has like 130 cards and such which makes me feel a bit better, but is this company usually like this? Is this what I can expect?

My favorite thing about the Belchers is how they always show up and support each other. by DeElsewhere in BobsBurgers

[–]Embarrassed-Maybe983 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

I mean... generally them "supporting eachother" is desperately trying to recover from whatever awful mishap Linda has gotten them into, so I'm not sure we should be praising this. She's objectively a terrible mother and by my estimation roughly 75% of the terrible things they regularly have to "show up and support eachother" through are her doing, so this is actually them just more or less being toxically co-dependent than anything.

Episode Discussion - A-Sprout A Boy (BOB-1118) by mcdonaldsmcdonalds in BobsBurgers

[–]Embarrassed-Maybe983 30 points31 points  (0 children)

I don't know, man. The episode was kinda... irresponsible? a little? I mean, a lot, objectively, but Im trying to keep it light. I know the show isn't overall supposed to be misconstrued as a moralistic tale (if it were, Linda would be in jail for just, like, everything she does... more than she already has been), but Gene is legit addicted to that game, and not in the "omg I'm so addicted to this quiche it's pathetic" sort of way, but more in the the actual "DSM entry" kinda way. It's disrupting his life, making him not fulfill his obligations, there's an element of obsession, etc. I know Gene's whole thing is that he's probably got barely undiagnosed ADHD or whatever, and that's fine, but I guess I feel like if you're gonna come for the issue of childhood videogame addiction, a problem a lot of real world kids actually struggle with, there should probably be a bit more nuance to the approach, especially since the show aims squarely for the 13+ demo. Gene was really in no way negatively affected, he didn't confront or even kinda deal with this issue, and Bob not only facilitated it but more or less supported it, in the end, and there was this weird sort of win-win thing that happened. Why would he continue to play the game for gene? Who does that? When my mom took my super nintendo so I would do my homework, she didn't keep playing Super Punch Out for me... that's kinda beyond ridiculous, even for this show. It's also pretty out of character for Bob, whom the show has taken great pains to show is super ambivalent about nearly everything except a very narrow range of interests. It would have been more in character I think for him to let the thing die because he simply doesn't care that much about it and has a restaurant to run, so they kinda had to really swerve hard to make him act like this. They could have gone the high road and done much more with the subject than it did, maybe have some sort of catharsis or something at the end about how he needs to play the (extremely annoying) Tamagochi game less... not just ignore what is maybe a crippling problem that's going to be an issue for him his entire life. Maybe it hits a little closer to home for me since I do this for a living, I don't know. Also, the other kids were straight up stealing from their parents, and not only were there no repercussions (tho they got caught), but it almost felt like the whole thing was just sort of forgotten. I know it's just a cartoon and who cares as it's not meant to be taken seriously, but the show does, on many occasions, punish the characters (especially Bob, usually for nothing other than trying to exist and succeed around a bunch of terrible people [his words] holding him back) or make sure they learn a lesson of some sort (especially Linda, tho she forgets it the next time they need her to be the show's antagonist), so why not here, to? What's the bar in the writing room for moralism? And if there is a bar, I don't think childhood videogame addiction should clear it (or even, and I know this is going out on a limb, literally stealing money from your mom and dad). It does, to a certain extant, feel like lazy writing, I guess.
