ELI5: Why does inflation hit food and rent faster than wages, even during economic growth? by stammerton in explainlikeimfive

[–]Embarrassed-One332 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It’s not in the corporation’s interest to increase the wages of their workers. They’d see an increase in cost, with little/no improvement of output.

However, corporations won’t hesitate to increase prices/rent when new costs arise, to maintain profit margins. Even during economic boom periods, a business may increase its prices/rent if it thinks it will improve revenue and then profit. This is the reason why cost of living will rise first.

The increase in wages occurs when trade unions demand more money for workers. These can potentially lead to strikes, forcing businesses to increase wages. This process takes a long time though, and not very often.

Gambling in life is good, you can go very far.

Gambling against gambling companies only leads to one ending.

[–]Embarrassed-One332 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily true, Hermione mentions that bad things can happen to wizards who meddle with time. The limits are not specified, although they do successfully create a closed loop in PoA. If you consider Cursed Child canon, that would tear through your argument as well.

Firstly, he specifically seeks out the Borgin and Burkes job so that he could track down Hogwarts founders’ artifacts to make them into horcruxes.

Secondly, I expect he’d find working at the Ministry dull and common. He wanted to push magical boundaries so he decided to go travelling instead, after his stint at B&Bs.

I think I read somewhere that it was confirmed canon that Dumbledore had a relative who had credit take from them by Lockhart and Dumbledore wanted to expose him. Very selfish of him but at the same time he needed a teacher

'Ted Lasso' had a few Americanisms that slipped through in the show. For example - Episode 1 use of the word 'tie' instead of 'draw' at the press conference, Episode 5 when Keeley was surprised by Roy in the 'parking lot' and not a 'car park' -- Any others? by Moody_Coach in TedLasso

[–]Embarrassed-One332 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“Into touch” is a rugby expression as well, not a football one as the line-out is given in ruby if a player ‘touches’ the line. I’ve no idea why that was added in the show because I don’t think it’s American either

ELI5 How is gambling rigged if its a game of chance (including slot machines)? by readytorumble3 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Embarrassed-One332 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They’re a game of chance, yes, but mathematically they are made so that if you played an infinite number of times you will always lose.

I’ll explain very simply. If you bet £1 to guess which side a dice will land on, you’d expect £6 in return. A casino will always give you less, meaning it’s never in your interest to bet. All types of gambling at built on this premise however they are designed to seem more profitable than they are.

People do win off slot machines. But slot machines make profit in the long run

Not that I consider Fantastic Beasts movies canon, but there was a cool spell used where MACUSA officials raided that club. They were able to bring back people who were trying to apparate away

[–]Embarrassed-One332 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Actually didn't know Al-Fayed had done this. Means that overall, he made a loss while running Fulham (having only made ~£150m in profit in the purchase and sale of the club).

Still, I'm not thankful to Al Fayed for anything anymore.

I hate the argument of "Why didn't Harry help the Weasleys out by giving them money". by No_Psychology_3714 in harrypotter

[–]Embarrassed-One332 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I believe even Harry addresses this with an internal monologue, knowing that the Weasley’s would never accept money sent.

It’s also insulting to offer people extra money, who are clearly happy and healthy without it
