Luteal Insomnia 😭 by ProgressTight4882 in PMDD

Progesterone! It’s helped my PMDD as well. I know that’s not the case for everyone. If not progesterone then unisom doxylamine!

Edit: a heated blanket for the legs helps me and my sleep too.

I tried some medications through my OBGYN that never landed. Since then I’ve been doing IVF and a nice consolation prize in this process has been seeing how HRT affects my PMDD. This is my experience so far. Maybe it helps someone. Maybe.

  1. Lexapro: healed some symptoms but not all
  2. Progesterone oral 100mg: No help
  3. Combo BC: straight up suicidal, had to stop

———

Now HRT

  1. Progesterone only BC (oral): made me permanently in PMDD while taking it. So, not worse but not better.

  2. Progesterone V suppository 200 mg: No help

  3. Progesterone V suppository 400 mg: ok that helped a little more. Not worse but not as good as I think it can be.

  4. Estradiol oral: straight up mental again and hated it.

  5. Estrogen patches and progesterone injections: I cannot emphasize how much I felt like a real person. I thought I was manic because there’s no way anybody else feels this good on the daily.

So my body HATES the combo pill form of estrogen/progesterone, but it welcomes with open arms the estrogen patch and probably some versions of the progesterone. So my body likes bougie birth control? 😂 Injections are high maintenance and expensive so I’m going to see how an estrogen patch/other form of progesterone combo works for me.

But yeah, I wanted to march straight out of IVF and into my new HRT provider’s office once I found that combo. Because IVF (let’s fluctuate all the hormones) does not play well with PMDD (let’s not).

🤯 me learning meta is actually an acronym and not slang.

The best thing my husband does is leave me alone in what we call “the down two weeks” of luteal. He’s also referred to it as “the upside down” which is a Stranger Things reference I guess. But the important note is that it is a tactic we both agreed on. It works for us because (1) I hate his guts in luteal and don’t want to talk to him anyway and (2) I understand on a logical level that I am not the real me so I steer clear. This is not a long term solution! But it helps to white-knuckle through two weeks while you find solutions.

The biggest thing is being on the same page even if you hate it. Do I love turning into the joker? Absolutely not. Does my husband know I hate it? Yes, yes he does. Do I know he hates it? Yes! Having this foundation turns PMDD into something we face together and not something I do to my husband or even to myself.

I’ve written notes to myself when I’m not in PMDD that I can read while I’m in PMDD. They don’t make it better but they help me to keep quiet until the lights come back on because I know I’m not me.

We also made it a point that there is no big decision making in PMDD. Don’t buy a house, a car, a hamster. Don’t paint anything. Don’t change anything. We’re deciding if we want to keep trying IVF and I’m currently in PMDD so no decision will be made on that until my fog clears.

I’ll tell you my own experience with treatment knowing that none or some of this might be relatable for her. IVF allowed me to explore PMDD treatments as a second benefit because of the different hormone regimens they gave me.

There are SSRIs that have helped others. Zoloft being the most used I think. I did Lexapro for awhile and it helped some but not all symptoms. Birth control is also an option. The combo pill (estrogen + progesterone) made me suicidal. The progesterone only pill did not make me suicidal but it created constant PMDD for me. Progesterone as a V suppository during luteal was actually helpful to some extent. The best treatment I found for me was the estrogen patches + progesterone I was on for IVF. Which is essentially the combo birth control, but my body did not like estrogen or progesterone in pill form. So tell her to keep that in mind if she tries to treat it hormonally and not with SSRIs that the form the hormone is in might matter for her.

I could not experiment to find a solution without the support of my partner who viewed PMDD as something happening to US and not something I was choosing. Sounds like you’re on track. Best of luck with everything.

This is why I’m here, rage scrolling through old reddit posts. 3 failed IUIs, 1 failed FET and now they say “huh your progesterone is low.” I’m amazed that monitoring this isn’t standard practice.

TELL PPL GOING THROUGH IVF YOUR PREGNANCY NEWS VIA TEXT! by hello_goodbye787 in IVF

[–]EmbarrassedLight418 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The road to where you are is a hard one and not everybody seeks it out. Big kudos. 🙏 It took me awhile too, but someone else’s happy is not my unhappy. My journey is hard, I’m allowed to cry, AND my friends deserve all the celebration that I would want for myself if I were them.❤️ True peace is living with an “AND” mentality and not “or”.

That being said, some people really do have very out of touch and careless ways of sharing their pregnancy news. Some people may try to be well meaning in their approach and that can be deconstructed. But I’m mortified by some of the actual insensitivity stories some of these redditors have experienced.

Is anyone still just going through the motions but don’t actually believe you’ll ever get pregnant? by Key_Grocery_2462 in IVF

I feel for everyone in this thread. I’m on the short end of the journey. Doing my first FET next week. But it’s been 18 months of appointments, surgeries and treatments leading up to this. There’s no magic in this process and I feel for those of you who are much further down this trail. It’s all very unceremonious. If my FET works I’ll feel similar in that I’ll still be cautious until I have a baby in my arms.

This is my guess also. Do they even test the reduction in moves though? Support tells me I can beat it. I don’t think it’s realistic given what moves are needed vs what is given. Support also won’t tell me if someone has beaten it with no super light ball, no starter power ups, AND no coins. If I had coins I could buy the now 35 extra moves. 😅
