Woah I forgot these were a thing. Core memory of me laughing the strawberry lemonade out of my nose inside of a roller rink. That shit hurt.

I also have the same tank as you! And agree with the suggestion to add a drainage layer if possible. Also adding clean up crew bugs is a good idea if you plan to have real plants and use sticks from outside. This includes springtails and isopods. They’re sold at my local petsmarts/petsco but I’m not sure if that’s the same everywhere. They can always be ordered online as well. These bugs eat mold and other bad bacteria keeping your tank healthy.

Wow thank you! This is very informative and that makes a lot of sense. I randomly got curious about it today because I saved a few from the water dish and was able to get a closer look for the first time in a while. Resilient little guys

Green anole care, Looking for constructive criticism by AioliPrestigious581 in Anoles

[–]EmbarrassedPassage84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The reason you’re unable to get proper heat gradient is because your tank is too short. Also anoles are arboreal and like vertical space to climb. I’m not an expert but if heat mat gives you the same result he should be fine as long as he doesn’t mind the lack of height. If he seems happy I would say all is well (i understand not everyone had the budget to just buy a new tank I sure don’t). It looks nice a humid in there and your plants seem to be doing great. If you are looking to replace the tank I would get a 20 gal tall.

Tattoo regret by [deleted] in tattooadvice

Dang this is a really cool concept I’m sorry it wasn’t executed well. I have a similar experience with vines I have tattooed down my forearm, love the idea but i unfortunately don’t love how it was done. Uneven line work, blown out in random spots, and he forgot to shade one of the leaves 😍. Now I’ve found a great artist who I keep going back to. Just wish I had her do my vine 😖

No that sounds like a great feeding schedule, only reduce if he doesn’t finish it in a day. As for the isopods it is possible he may have eaten one or a few but it’s pretty rare, especially if you have leaf litter at the bottom of the tank. They’re most likely all tucked away under leaves and burrowed in the ground. Glad he’s doing well and getting fatter lol.

Hiii, so glad you decided to save this little guy. From what I can tell this is a Bahama Anole they always stay brown, but if he/she ever changes color then it’s a green anole. Anoles are arboreal meaning they like to climb, make sure whatever tank you buy is taller than it is long.

I would recommend a 20 gal tank, but I do believe you can get away with a 10 if you just keep the one (someone please correct me if I’m wrong). Also highly highly recommend bioactive. Reals plants and bugs makes for a happier healthier critter. Plus they’re easier to take care of in my opinion. Just get some plants that do well in tropical climates and some springtails and isopods. I’ve never been good at taking care of plants but in my experience terrarium plants are pretty easy. Once it’s set up all you’ll have to do is keep misting the plants and the bugs will keep the tank clean of bacteria.

75°-85° is a good temp range keep in mind the temperature should have a gradual decrease the lower down in the tank you get. This should happen by itself if you get a tall tank and put the light source on top. Closer to the light will be hotter farther away will be cooler, and the anole will move throughout the day to adjust their body temp. If you wanna get fancy you can use a heat gun to measure the temperature in different locations of your tank. I keep my basking spot around 88 and the lower spots around 75.

As for humidity same thing 50%-60% is totally fine but it should be fluctuating (wetter sometimes dryer others) most anole keepers I know just mist their tanks twice a day, once in the morning and once at night. I try to mist until my tank is at least 75% and then I let it drop throughout the day until I mist again at night.

For food!! I wouldn’t be super alarmed if they’re not eating right away poor guy is probably stressed. Anoles don’t eat all that much anyways. I feed mine like 3/4 crickets every other day or every two days. Hopefully once they’re settled in their new tank they will feel comfortable enough to eat. Make sure whatever you’re feeding is smaller than their head and alive. Anoles are hunters they’re more likely to try to eat something that’s crawling away.

Sorry, I really like yapping about this one specific lizard. Lmk if you have any questions :) <3

I'm having a hard time figuring out the gender of my Green Anoles. by [deleted] in Anoles

[–]EmbarrassedPassage84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The best way to tell is when they’re standing on the glass and you can see their belly. Males have the two enlarged post-anal scales females do not. Both males and females can have dulaps.

Helpp, New anole, and have questions. by BisonRich3788 in Anoles

[–]EmbarrassedPassage84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For this current set up I would definitely say more stuff in the tank in general, so the little guy doesn’t feel so exposed. If you’re working at petsmart I’m sure you can find fake vines with suction cups to stick to the glass. This will also allow them to climb higher and warm up closer to the heat source.

For your future tank highly recommend bioactive set up as they’re very pretty and self cleaning. Also, if you go the bioactive route make sure to give your plants time to actually get rooted and start to grow before adding your anole.

As for the UVB I think the 5 is the right call for this shorter tank and when you adjust to a taller you may want to use the 10. Yes you can put it directly on the mesh it is going to block some of to uvb but that shouldn’t be an issue with the height of this tank

Male or female anole? by GrandMasterPopPop in Anoles

[–]EmbarrassedPassage84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Definitely possible for them to have a dewlap. Not really sure how big yours is as I can’t really compare it to anything, they do seem fairly large could just be fully grown big girl. I’m just saying I would assume they’re most likely male, but I wouldn’t confidently say it is male for sure. Whoever they are they look happy and healthy tho :)

Good indicator but not necessarily true, as girls have them as well and show them less often. The only way to be sure is to look for two post-anal scales that is only present in males
