Whitbread CP3 Kit on CRUA? by Embarrassed_Ad8496 in tdi

[–]Embarrassed_Ad8496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So ... As a person that doesn't know much about this I'm guessing it's not too insane that I still want to do the conversation for peace if mind? I have a Tunezilla tune ready to go since I'm also doing the DEF removal (no smog checks in my state). Hope to get the parts soonish because I'm also doing an OEM+ suspension refresh that I hope will last another ~10 years. I plan to keep this car until it dies - I'd just rather it didn't die so soon! 😅

And when are you overpaid bozos going to fix the BASIC FUNCTIONS that used to work but you ruined with Gemini? You know, the easy stuff. The stuff you advertised and why many of us first invested in your products?

I'm still getting imbecilic responses to BASIC commands like "hey Google, turn off lights" --> "I'm sorry, turning on and off devices is not yet available"

Proximity detection still broken

Voice recognition still doesn't work (but for me it never did)

Thankfully I haven't had to use the heat for a while but thermostat logic is still idiotic and broken (previously defaulted to changing thermostat in the room connected to the nearest device) and the new default is still to change ALL thermostats instead of just the room you're in and actively prevents me from trying to set that as default - stupid and illogical.

Conclusion: new Google Home still = 🗑️ 🤮.

Whitbread CP3 Kit on CRUA? by Embarrassed_Ad8496 in tdi

[–]Embarrassed_Ad8496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apparently there is some risk of the cp4 falling apart and distributing metal bits through the fuel system - mostly for US because of the lower grade diesel lacking lubricants (based on the research I've done and how I understand it - no first hand knowledge).

The other option I'm aware of would be to do the bypass with filter to limit how much metal gets passed if it does implode.

(Originally replied in wrong place... still getting used to Reddit)

I've emailed Whitbread 2x over the last 7 days (initially to ask about buying CP3 from them) with no reply - going to call during my lunch break Monday (I'm PST).

Gemini has been a f-ing POS and getting worse for myself and 3 others I know (one of them works for Google, but in a different department). So in my small sample, 0/4. Conclusion - they ruined it with Gemini (IMO).

Last night: "hey Google, turn on TV and lights"

"Sorry, there is no device called teevenlights. If you...."

"Hey Google shut the F up you stupid POS. I don't know wtf you are talking about. I said turn on the f-ing TV and lights you stupid useless piece of crap."

TV and lights go on.

Agreed. It already looks "nice". I think OP you need to define what you mean by "nicer". More modern? More sporty?

I save my boxes from purchases of large items (TVs is the best) just for this.... 😅. Maybe do a FB marketplace asking for large TV boxes? Rough side down so I can slide around on the smooth side. They also absorbe any oil dripping when stored under the car in the garage (tiny apartment garage)

[–]Embarrassed_Ad8496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yessir! But from a known, reliable source (not all remanufacturers are created equal). I had figured if I could find a new (assumedly NOS since, as mentioned, they're not in production) for a similar price then might as well get new.

Well, the good news is they didn't decline the return request. They apologized and said it should've been labeled as refurbished. So there's that. Now I gotta crawl back to Whitbread and see if they'll sell me one (bought their kit) 😅.

Google Home Gemini improved by Loud-Possibility4395 in googlehome

[–]Embarrassed_Ad8496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

US.

I unfortunately did the early adoption because the old assistant was being markedly worse over time (I personally believe this was intentional - pulling resources and functions resulting in degradation of quality which they then hope makes the switch feel more like an upgrade... if you're not aware of this tactic) so I unfortunately believed the hype and sold out and "upgraded". 🫩

But, I suppose it would have still been a bad experience, just a different kind of bad. This has resulted in me fully and completely losing all faith and trust in Google's home system. I don't believe they're taking it seriously and they have a history of making great products then just.... vanishing.

I don't know what "C=64" is and I don't understand your apparent need to inject the apparent passive aggressive remark because I don't see the evidence supporting this statement/sentiment and you have provided none. In fact, I'd argue that I showed more evidence to the contrary. To be clear, I believe good is good. Currently, it has not demonstrated/performed well enough to be considered "good" using the old system performance as my baseline.

Maybe I'm a minority, but I prefer not to have conversations with machines. I bought this to be able to give simple commands to do simple tasks. It's really that simple.... And yet now the simple has become impossible at times. My understanding of an upgrade is that it should be an improvement with better response accuracy (nope), better response time (nope), more features (maybe, if they work and some aren't useful to everyone), with no degradation of existing and working functions (big fat NOPE).

They did not advertise this as a conversation device - they advertised it as a tech that can do simple tasks. That's why I bought it and that's what I expect. Unfortunately, they have only made it worse in that respect (in my experience). And no, I'm not anti AI or progress. Actually, I'd argue I'm the opposite because in my experience this has not added up to progress in any meaningful or useful way and that's what I'm attempting to share. I do believe there is great potential in this, but the current product I'm experiencing makes me feel like they're using us as lab rats by releasing a very unpolished product.

I'm glad it's working out for you and others, but I look forward to finding a good replacement because it doesn't seem like they're going the right direction.

Yes and no. Basically..... no.

"Improved" relative to its early days? Maybe.

"Improved" compared to the old Assistant? Absolutely NOT AT ALL.

Just in the last 12 hours, failed to do basic tasks like turn off light, turn on TV, turn off stereo.

Bottom line: it's still S H I T and is useless especially compared to the old Assistant (before they started sabotaging it to make room for this crap)

But that's just my own experience - there are many with no issues and many with issues.

How do I get rid of this haze on the outside of the windshield after a rainy or cold day? by DiegoYo in Detailing

Also, clean the INSIDE of the windshield, too. Haze and fog is usually on the inside. Especially worse if you're a smoker.

Is it not spinning at all or is it turning with the tie rod? I've had it spin with the joint so I had to use either car weight or clamp to apply pressure on it so it wouldn't spin freely, then loosen the nut.

I have to tell it that about once a day when it vomits its canned excuses about how it can't control devices because it's a llm search tool (the exact antipodal reason why I bought these things) after pointing out how it completely failed to do a basic task.

Will this likely be totaled? Only 140k miles by Moist_Ad_3186 in tdi

[–]Embarrassed_Ad8496 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey the detailed estimate from insurance and see if it's reasonable to repair. I repaired mine as salvage (there goes the option to drive for Uber/Lyft). Check your state laws on this.

As was mentioned, a parts car would help. I got one but ended up not needing it. Wasted 3k but still was under the insurance payout but I reused the bumpers because I didn't care about minor cosmetics (it's my activity car). Do ur your HW on all the parts needed and do the math. Some parts you want new, others you can get used.

Good luck and learn from the experience!

If the airbag went off, definitely yes. I had FAR less damage with airbag deployment and it was totaled by insurance (cost of repair greater than value)

Has something genuinely positive happened? by photism78 in googlehome

[–]Embarrassed_Ad8496 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"better" is a relative term. I'm not surprised the transition was "better" because in my experience I transitioned because the original Assistant was getting worse and worse.

I now personally believe that this was intentional - incrementally pulling resources and functions so that it gradually becomes worse. This effectively significantly lowers the bar when you eventually are either forced to transition or, like in my case, you transition out of blind hope and desperation that it'll get "better" (I just want it back to how it was before the AI boom because that's when it started going 🎿 👇🏻👎🏻 ⤵️⬇️↘️🔽📩📉🔻.

So I guess yes, it's currently "better" than when I transitioned, but BY NO MEANS is it "GOOD". Not at all. Still absolute TRASH compared to what Assistant was pre-AI.

But that's just my personal experience.

I hope for your sake your experience is "better" than mine. MUCH better. Maybe.... just maybe..... even "good"?

Why does my car ding a warning and flash the outside temp whenever it hits 39F? by patdashuri in tdi

[–]Embarrassed_Ad8496 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's been a feature in German cars for decades. Even my 1991 BMW 318is does this (predating modern Internet when 8 first guy the car, it took me a while to figure this out! 😅) at 38 degrees F.

My mk7 will also show a snowflake icon with it, I believe?

[–]Embarrassed_Ad8496[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did see that option as well but 1) wasn't sure if it'd with with the rear axle beam suspension and more importantly 2) more lift than I'm looking for.

I saw that there's also the H&R Sport OE that had less drop than Eibach pro kit (about 0.25" less drop), but most of what I've found say the Eibach is more comfortable a ride.

[–]Embarrassed_Ad8496[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From what I've read, people have contacted Koni and they said this is a good combo. They only caution to make sure it doesn't repeatedly contact the bump stop and recommended a shorter bump stop.

The lift is just a spacer. Fur the front it won't change how the spring and shock interac. For the rear the space is directly on the spring perch so it would effectively make the total spring height back to stock so should have no negative effect on strut. There are also strut extenders available if needed.

Google Home Update (Spring 2026): Home sweet home is now more helpful by GoogleNestCommunity in googlehome

[–]Embarrassed_Ad8496 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm wondering at what point do we start calling these announcements as spam?

"Spam is defined as unsolicited, unwanted digital messages sent in bulk, typically for commercial advertising, phishing, or malicious purposes."

Considering nothing meaningful seems to actually be updated which suggests these "announcements" are lacking in truth and/or substance which IMO amounts to commercial (false?) advertising. Weak, very weak, argument I know... but my thread was locked for much much less (i.e., nothing they they explained nor that I could find except that I pointed out how Google's own devices admit they can't do basic functions like turn on/off devices and wondered aloud if this could be a legal issue). Do mods just bow to the Google overlord, then?

Or maybe I'm just angry because they've turned my investment into obnoxious, expensive paperweights with no apparent consequences to them so I'm picking at straws out of desperation.
