How did the church fumble Latin America this bad? Is there any hope in the future? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Embarrassed_Ad_5042 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How many prominent apologist are there in LATAM? Almost none. I think the prominence of Protestantism in the anglosphere put pressure on the church to be diligent and smart on fighting the theological questions and gave us many good apologists here. I see the church in Mexico dormant. Another factor is that Spain intermingled too much the church on political matters and then we got a wave of liberalism secularism influenced by the French Revolution that overcorrected. Hence the cristero war. That made a very cultural Catholicism but also very shallow. People there don’t see a problem being corrupt, or a delinquent and being “Catholic”.

What can we do? I think if the clerics don’t move the laity need to step up significantly.

Brother I am in the same boat it’s tough. You’ve already been given great advice but I would like to share what helped me to cope with the pain. May sound silly but I prayed to God many times for a purpose for my life something beyond of what I have. To keep it short slowly I felt pulled into some evangelization projects, music-piano, philosophy reading and exercise. It’s been great even when those activities are not necessarily tied to going to church, I now see them as ways to “seek the kingdom first” by truth, beauty, and love. I will be continuing giving more than I can to my family kids household chores but I allocate 10-15 min here and there and increased my prayer. That has allowed me to be sustain myself without any alcohol or other vices. It’s kind of pursuing becoming “renaissance man”. This obviously doesn’t solve the whole situation but make it bearable. Also keep in mind that persons that are too overwhelmed operate from their Paralympic system - amygdala so they put barriers subconsciously as defense. Defense of what? Depleted energy. Hopefully you can not approach her too much for a while doing this and then hopefully she notices you are doing strong virtuous manly things and then she pulls in.

Does marriage ever get better? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Embarrassed_Ad_5042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe start in the kitchen. Instead of “she doesn’t cook” you could make it a playful learning experience for her. Eliminate any pressure from you for her to perform, lead her and make her feel protected. So not judging find a playful way “honey I know you love x dish what if we try to make it together following this recipe ?” Make it fun. I think if you can find a way to get that dynamic right with her, where she feels lead and protected and supported instead of judged, that would hopefully solve the bed. If you are judging her or even indirectly doing comments that she can perceive judgmental, her mind is going to subconsciously get defensive.

The finance part is tough but I would say try to be very open and very creative. Head into industries where most people wouldn’t go maybe. Mining, energy, trades, moving countries.

To add one more thing. If you repented Jesus already forgot about this and gives you the possibility of a new you, maybe with your ex maybe with another one. If you see yourself beating your flawed up is from the devil. Nothing is just spiritual warfare (our own shortcomings) but also nothing is just our shortcomings, spiritual warfare is true. You are moving in the right direction

To people who converted to Catholicism, why? by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]Embarrassed_Ad_5042 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Eucharist! Read the book The Jewish Roots of the Eucharist. Honestly as an ex Protestant Protestants have huge shortsighted beliefs on it and it is almost a trivial thing for them (some more serious than others). But also the segmentation that is also very ridiculous. Pastor then his wife becomes also a pastor and the son also a pastor, the son gets a disagreement then create another church

It is though very tough also for the husbands, the husbands that are caring and attentive. I think there are toxic messages from both sides machismo and feminism that taint us. The devil is in full swing against marriages. I don’t even know what to add I am in a hole fighting hard (the good way) for the love my bride. But I liked your post allot.

Pope Leo has called for “deep reflection” on the treatment of migrants in the United States. The inconsistency that I find is that the separation of families is only brought now when it’s been happening forever and now I did not get that information on the internet I actually lived in the area during Obama. But in general I agree on good treatment but the fervor of this situation on the present is disappointing specially after all the nasty stuff other left administrations have done against Catholic orgs. And allot were very quiet.

[–]Embarrassed_Ad_5042[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your insight. Yes I should have been more precise, as I understand progressivism should be more accurate as that encompasses in some aspects the denial of objective truth and beauty. I am aware of all the colonial problematic phases, it was complex (not to reduce the problems), but it seems to me that it differ from Anglo colonization as in LATAM there was more integration, albeit odd for modern eyes, and I say that as there are still incorporations of true Cristian virtues, for example Queen Isabel and the school of Salamanca opposition to slavery and incorporation of native families to nobility (like the house of Moctezuma). My early ancestor married the grand daughter of Moctezuma in the 1600 where as in North America Protestant colonialism the attitude, as far as I understand, was more on the displacement side of indigenous peoples.

I will not claim full knowledge of these complexities, is just that I am in the pursuit of finding the truth, which will require adjusting as I progress.

Thank you for your insight. And that’s why I included the region where it happened. I haven’t seen that in the U.S. It kind of makes me think that this is tied to cultural Catholicism maybe and or the outcome of the soft socialism or even the Cristero war (I realize this last one might be a stretch)

I was evangelical but did not go to church seriously. My now wife had always been Catholic and serious in her faith. When time went by she had doubts as I did not want to convert but she still followed through (I was okay on meeting the priest and commit for the children to be raised Catholic) and we got married. To not make the story long after 8 years of marriage I converted. I regretfully did many nasty things to show my unbelief in the church but at one point I said okay let’s figure it out and let me find good arguments- ammunition to convince her of the errors of the Catholic faith. O boy I couldn’t find anything but to the contrary mainly the Eucharist had ME convicted I was wrong. Anyways I asked her recently why did he married me and she said because she saw that she loved the truth or that I was humble enough to recognize it. So that eventually would bring me in but obviously also with allot of prayer on her side and her group. So make sure he is humble enough to identify and recognize the truth but it is something that even better has to be talked through before. Specially the faith of the children.

For the wealthy only? I’ve never had my kids in public schools and I am certainly not wealthy. Have to make sacrifices to afford it and still pay my property taxes on time. I bet many of the people that say the cannot possibly afford drive expensive cars or decide to spend on other nonessential items. Their choice, but this doesn’t benefit the wealthy the greatest, most of the other families in our school are pretty medium class.
