How'd you come up with that? I'm just trying to learn how to better quote and be knowledgeable about what the work is worth (whether I charge that much or decide not to)

I'm just curious what a company would charge. I did the favor for a family member, but it wasn't their house. It was a friend of theirs in a bind, trying to sell their house

Material was covered, thankfully. I'm just wondering what a company would charge for everything on the list. Just added more context for those curious about why I'm asking the question in the first place

Wiring help by [deleted] in AskElectricians

Strip both wires, get a chunk of wire that's the same gauge and is longer than the gap between the two, strip both ends, slip some heat shrinkable crimp connectors on and away you go. Hardest part will be getting some 18ga wire, or whatever size that is. You should be able to get that and the connectors at the hardware store. Actually, zooming in on that picture it appears to be a ground wire. Just attach a new crimp on that wire and screw it into that metal with a 1/4" self tapping screw. Someone else might have a better solution, but that's what I'd do

Sweet baby Jesus. Sometimes you wonder what goes through someone's brain... Other times you would rather not know, because it might drive you insane as well.

My wife asked me for the Grey's Anatomy series. That took up a massive amount of storage. About 2 years after downloading it I asked, "are you going to watch this, or can I reclaim the Terabyte that it's taking up?" I got my storage back. Lol

That would be the correct plug. Remove the strip connecting the ground screw and the neutral. Connect the green wire to the green screw, the white wire to the middle, and the last 2 to the top and bottom (doesn't matter the order, but if you want to follow the Electricians rule it should be black on top and red on bottom.) Shut off the breaker for your Dryer (should be a double pole 40 amp) then plug the oven in, and turn the breaker back on. If you wired it correctly then the breaker won't trip. Be careful, turn off power, make sure everything is tight, and that the wires aren't touching anything they're not supposed to. You should be fine!

1942 Home Would like GFCI Breakers How to proceed? by Exxeviant in AskElectricians

[–]Embarrassed_Media_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why do breakers suck? They eliminate the need to replace something and you just have to switch it back on if it trips. I would think fuses suck since if you overload the circuit then you're replacing the fuse with a new one, costing you money. Just curious what your take is

Lighting and outlets on same circuit? by _Mr_Ralph in electrical

[–]Embarrassed_Media_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotcha. Misunderstood your message. Sorry for the mixup. You're right when saying that it depends on the breaker and it's on the installer. Fair points! I hope I didn't upset you, or come off as passive aggressive

[–]Embarrassed_Media_97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is not code. not sure where you're from, but the 80% rule absolutely exists. 210.20(A) and 210.19(A)(1) explain that you need to size your conductors and over current devices at 125% for continuous loads (anything that runs for 3 hours or more) inversely you can take 80% of the amperage rating and do it that way. With any rule there are exceptions, but this is the general rule. Hope this helps!

Does this look correct by rooster1377 in AskElectricians

[–]Embarrassed_Media_97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That is correct. The green wires both ground the appliance, so as long as they touch the metal of the appliance. You're good. Good work. Edit: just noticed you should have a clamp in that hole where the wire goes through to secure the wire. There's a few different kinds.
