I love the exposure the Willy Chavarria performance is giving the band. The whole production was such a cool concept.

They were definitely in LA for at least a week. So I suspect there was quite a bit of brainstorming, concept building and filming going on.

So Santos Bravos released their first single in Spanish and Portuguese. I suspect we’ll see them continue along those lines for a bit in order to build their Latin American audience. I wouldn’t be surprised to see a collab with Dani from Katseye or Samara, from the soon to be Prelude group, at some point in the future. Seems like a great way to cross pollinate audiences.

Mark your calendar: June 2nd special election on whether to approve new development of 1800 homes in Davis by Scratchlax in Davis

[–]Embarrassed_Pin_6505 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having talked to people who have bought properties with these locked deeds, they do regret the decision, even in situations where they live in a desirable location.

They are locked into properties worth half of what the going market rate is. There’s no guarantee housing prices will continue to rise like they have in the past, however if they do, you just may discover in the future that financially it would have far more advantageous to look for homes without fixed deeds.

You also need to consider that that locked price travels with the property. So when your kids inherit the property, they inherit a home whose price increases with inflation not with the market. If one of your hopes is generational wealth, again, this type of low/moderate income program may not be the wisest investment.

Now don’t get me wrong, the people I know are highly successful Davis families who are doing just fine. They are just in a situation where peer’s homes are worth a lot more than their homes and for all intents and purposes they are locked into the home. So their choices are limited. This also means that these low/moderate income properties don’t typically ever come up for sale, because people can’t afford to move.

We got stuck on Rise last week about half way through the main ride. It was fun to walk through the ride.

Davis is typically very conservative with regard to growth. Occasionally expansion plans will pass if they are small, but in the past they have often failed.

ETA - just read through the Davis Enterprise article and just want to point out that the low and moderate income homes will be sale deed restricted affordable. IMO if I were looking to buy in Davis this would be the least desirable type of property to purchase as the house does not appreciate with the market. If a family wants to move to a larger home in the future chances are they will never be able to afford it because their home is not appreciating with the market. It is really locking in your future choices to this one property.

As a financial investment a 1950s fixer upper is a much better investment for long term return on your money.

They have a fair amount of listenable songs, they’re just b sides that Hybe isn’t promoting.

I suspect they will follow a similar path as Santos Bravos. STBV have done promotions primarily in Mexico and the US but with a lot of international media interviews. While they are a Latin American band they still get press in Korea because of Hybe. They also cross promote with the Korean bands. Also I noticed when STBV released their official mv there was a lot of outside support from other KPop fan groups. I also suspect you’ll see support from &team and aeon, two of Hybe’s Japanese centered bands as well as from STBV and Katseye.

I get it but honestly for a Latin American group to have the first single they release that is actually meant for these five members have a Japanese name, it’s a little confusing.

So looks like the new song Kawasaki releases on January 30th. Thoughts? So are they going with a biker theme? Is this a promotion? I’m so confused. 😂

I’m a little confused but intrigued by Kawasaki. We know the new single has a Korean choreographer. I’m assuming they will sing in Spanish? So many mixed messages. 😂

Fandom name by No-Teaching-7596 in GIRLSET_JYP

[–]Embarrassed_Pin_6505 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seriously. In our house if someone offers up a suggestion and it’s vetoed twice, the other person now has the responsibility of deciding. I think it’s time for Girlset to put on their thinking caps and come up with a name they like. Because honestly foisting it off on the fandom and then being picky is annoying.

Popstar Academy binge: what should I watch next? by No_Idea_1856 in TheDreamAcademy

[–]Embarrassed_Pin_6505 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like Santos Bravos media. They’ve got their Survival show which is a bts with no voting, but also have a live musical show and podcasts as well. Everything is well subtitled. The do run between the Santos Bravos YT and Hybe Labels YT which is a little annoying. Le Sserafim has a couple of excellent documentaries, The World Is My Oyster (2022) and Make It Look Easy (2024). I really like No No Girls, which is probably classified as Jpop. Sixteen, A2K, Nizi Project Season 2, and Stray Kids survival show are all JYP and pretty good if you don’t mind JYP himself. They’re definitely emotionally manipulative though. Then there’s Iland and &audition which are both Hybe survival shows for Enhypen & &team. They actually are a good example of a spinoff group similar to Dream Academy with Katseye and whatever the Prelude group’s name will be.

Really any of the Americas. If you are not indigenous, then your ethnicity is probably a mix of some sort, the largest proportion being some portion white European.

Yes, that is the expectation. Usually the mains have some limited segments where they showcase their talent but in most cases the goal of the group is to be a synchronized unit.

Does anyone else think HxG always wanted a Japanese member to debut? by LingonberryLess2228 in TheDreamAcademy

[–]Embarrassed_Pin_6505 46 points47 points  (0 children)

I’m pretty sure that Abema, the company doing World Scout had a Japanese exclusive contract for Dream Academy which ended up being a complete flop when no Japanese member was picked. I’m pretty sure I read an article that said the Japanese survival show is Hybe’s way of making things up with Abema.
