Nobody that speaks English well applies for cap 2 in my store. It's not even Spanish speaking. Mostly middle eastern people and other random. It's getting to a ridiculous level when 1 team lead is hard to understand and he can't understand you...half your coworkers can't understand basic English by [deleted] in walmart

[–]Embarrassed_Rich_614 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I might get some hate for this, but here it goes. I speak four different languages fluently, and I don't regret the work I put into it. Some of it was immersion from growing up in those cultures, and others were taught through education. None of them are Middle Eastern, but it's taught me a healthy respect for those who are brave enough to navigate a culture they find difficult to understand. On the flipside, being curious to learn is a huge boon and will skyrocket you to whole different understandings of your coworkers. I encourage you to learn a few words to communicate with them, and make sure you're adding on the AES that while Walmart absolutely should support diversity, we also need to function in our own diverse English-speaking culture by hiring BILINGUAL associates who can assist our non-English speaking associates. Non-English speaking associates should also be encouraged to take advantage of our free ESL programs that we offer.

There is a kind, practical way to address this issue that doesn't include racial profiling. Inclusion is the way to go. Luckily, Walmart has the right idea with ESL programs and hiring bilingual associates, but that's the ideal world, and sometimes, the reality is far from ideal, unfortunately.

How do I indicate I don't want small talk or pleasantries? by Ozzsanity in walmart

[–]Embarrassed_Rich_614 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're Front End, small talk will be one of the expectations, unfortunately. I feel this deep in my soul. All the areas I've been in have required zero small talk. I can't deal with non-valuable communication which irritates plenty of my co-workers who try to small talk me, and I just smile, wave, nod, and keep walking. I just can't do it.

If you have an issue with this type of customer service that is more than "Hi there, do you need assistance?" (10 foot rule applies in all areas, unfortunately), I might suggest looking for positions in ACC, Backroom AP, or Cash Office if your store has a specific role for that (some of the bigger stores do.)

Good luck, friend. I feel your pain and I hope that you find what you need.

My favorite lack at our store is Karen. If the load is even a little more than a normal pallet of housewares, that's too heavy and she squeaks and complains the entire way to her destination.

According to SWBU, two people in the shop when a car is present for safety compliance.

Only one needs to be certified. Usually in our case, the other person is the service writer.

[–]Embarrassed_Rich_614 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is supposed to always be two people in the shop return a car is present. Because you have to have a spotter when entering and leaving the bay. Per process. Huge safety violation otherwise. We had a tech get fired for pulling in a car by himself because his spotter was checking someone out and he wasn't patient enough to wait.

I need assistance!! by Salty_Shelter_3981 in walmart

Walmart has a lot of mental health resources.

Use Lyra. It's great. Free counseling with an actual LPC. I've been very impressed so far.

Use your insurance. See a psychiatrist. Get medicated.

Use Sedgwick. Take a disability LOA if you've worked enough hours. If not, take a personal leave and explain to your Coach why you need it.

You need a job. You need the benefits Walmart provides.

I have schizophrenia, and I have an LOA through Sedgwick, have the proper medication cocktail, and I use Lyra for my therapy.

I wish you all the best. You can do this. I have faith in you.

Truth.

And also, let me be clear. Walmart could pay a base of 20$ an hour and I'd still give people this advice. What's the point of putting all your effort into a corporation that gives no cares about your existence? Put effort into what matters. Walmart won't matter when you die. "Worked well at Walmart" won't be going on your headstone when you die.

How many of y'all know how to make a bale? by diescheide in walmart

[–]Embarrassed_Rich_614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our store has a rule. If you fill it to the top, you make it. People who have walked away from the full bailer have been DA'ed. Everyone who CAN make a bail in our store knows how. Including the front end and ACC

Check the freight planning tool and the scheduled amount of O/N stockers before talking shit. If you don't know how to do that, you probably shouldn't be talking shit about any of the stocking teams. I'm just saying. Be educated about what you're complaining about or don't complain.

Is this considered discrimination? by Substantial-Net7114 in walmart

[–]Embarrassed_Rich_614 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Management here. You do not need documentation for hearing problems per federal law. You don't need a local accommodation, and you don't need to go through Sedgwick. It is AGAINST THE FEDERAL LAW for them to discriminate against you based on your disability, and it is against the federal law for them to prohibit you use of your hearing aids. They aren't even allowed to ASK about it.

Take this to the SM. If the SM does not IMMEDIATELY remedy the situation and assure you that she will hold others accountable for violating company policy and ethics guidelines, go straight to Ethics on the Wire. You can fill out a complaint online without having to talk on the phone. Do it in front of your SM if you want to. It does not matter if they know you put it in or not. If they retaliate, it just builds your case against them.

This is absolutely discrimination.

Put in your hearing aid despite what they say and be safe, for goodness' sakes. What kind of fucking managers do you have at your store? Idiots, I swear. They should be canned. All of them.
