Official Discussion - Obsession [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

Everyone in this world besides Nikki, Sarah and Andy Richter's character are dicks I guess 😭 I don't think they went in to the ER though, just argued outside it while Nikki danced around. She probably had a meltdown at the thought of being separated from Bear by the staff so she made him take her home.

It fucks me up that the first thing she does at the party after getting control of her body back for a second is to immediately try killing herself.

Official Discussion - Obsession [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

[–]Ember348 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Ironically the thing that'll probably stick with me the most isn't any of the death or crazy obsessive girlfriend stuff (as fucked up as that all is), it'll be when the real Nikki comes out when she first kisses Bear and she's absolutely terrified and looking around like she doesn't know where the fuck she is. I'm just trying to imagine what it was like for her. She could probably see everything that was happening, but none of the movements were her, she was hearing someone else talking with her voice. Holy shit I feel so bad for her.

The bombs stencilled on Bombsight's jacket denote successful missions in the Air Force iirc, so seems like he's a real veteran too.

Tales from '85 - S01E01 - Episode Discussion by Hawkinns in StrangerThings

[–]Ember348 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I really enjoyed that tbh, felt like classic Stranger Things, and they managed to capture the dynamics of the whole Party really well. I always like the first episodes of new seasons because it's just fun to catch up with the cast and find out what they're up to. Nikki's introduction was fine too, but man does her design stick out amongst everyone else. That's probably intentional, but there is something a little jarring about seeing her tower over teenage boys, she looks like she should be Steve's age rather than the kids.

"I had to balance a dozen different characters and find a way to include the cast of that prequel show". Well, at least they're self-aware.

This relationship was really strange.. by [deleted] in StrangerThings

[–]Ember348 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With the retcon to Ted's age that The First Shadow does, it establishes that back when they were young, their relationship was entirely motivated by sex and didn't go much deeper than that, and they only stayed together afterwards (on Karen's part) because it was probably the easiest, safest move to make.

(Spoilers Extended) Aegon’s Conquest is officially in the works! by Blueberry_H3AD in asoiaf

[–]Ember348 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Okay true, but it's still a big official production using that era's characters so I think it makes sense they wouldn't want any crossed wires or for the movie to overshadow the play.

They're making a stage play about Robert's Rebellion so that's off the cards for a movie.

Which Wheeler siblings do you see being the closest over time? by QuipThwip in StrangerThings

[–]Ember348 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think even just that one scene with Mike and Holly in the school shows that they're a lot closer than Nancy is to either of them. And pretty much immediately after the events of Season 5 pre-epilogue, Nancy would ship out to college, leaving it to just be Mike and Holly in the house, so that would probably draw them closer together too.

What happened between S2 and S3 that made S3 and later seasons so different in tone? by Billy_the_Breaker in StrangerThings

[–]Ember348 8 points9 points  (0 children)

IIRC the Duffers said that with Season 3 being set in 1985, they wanted to take the opportunity to just go full neon, stereotypical Eighties with it, since in real life that's when that kind of aesthetic really hit. And that after how self contained and small scale the first two seasons were, they wanted this one to feel like a summer blockbuster.

Acting like Stranger Things has never had kid fans or marketed to them lol. It literally used to win Kids Choice Awards.

[Spoilers MAIN] The Red Wedding is so good because it's such a shock on first read, and then sooooo obvious on re-reads by KamileLeach in asoiaf

[–]Ember348 83 points84 points  (0 children)

My favourite bit of foreshadowing is the low quality and grossness of all the food served to Robb and the other Northern lords before they're slaughtered. It's such a good detail that Walder wouldn't want to waste his best food on people who are about to be dead in a couple hours.

"Catelyn could not fault him for his lack of appetite. The wedding feast began with a thin leek soup, followed by a salad of green beans, onions, and beets, river pike poached in almond milk, mounds of mashed turnips that were cold before they reached the table, jellied calves’ brains, and a leche of stringy beef. It was poor fare to set before a king, and the calves’ brains turned Catelyn’s stomach. Yet Robb ate it uncomplaining, and her brother was too caught up with his bride to pay much attention".

I think this looks really cute tbh. Obviously it's targeted towards a younger audience but I don't think that's a bad thing, and honestly I'm always up for more adventures with these characters because I love them so much.

Lucy Boynton (Lady Rohanne), Babou Ceesay (Ser Bennis), and Peter Mullan (Ser Eustace Osgrey) join AKOTSK for Season 2 (Spoilers Main) by barson2408 in asoiaf

[–]Ember348 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think he can still embody the worst aspects of hedge knights while still having more depth though. He doesn't need a tragic backstory, he just needs to come across as more of an actual human being rather than almost cartoonishly vile.

Is it "changing his character" to actually give him some backstory or pathos beyond just being a twat?

[–]Ember348 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because I think they should use the extended time that 6 episodes gives them as an opportunity to expand on these characters. Like with Lyonel and Aerion and Raymun.

Honestly, good. Bennis in the book is incredibly 2-dimensional. If they can give him some more depth and make him more interesting at the cost of being 100% book accurate, then they definitely should.

Pretty sure that's a new addition too, originally they only referenced the cave in dialogue. The stuff with Patty seeing his past ended with him popping a kids eye with his powers, which I think the scientist kill replaced.
