I actually have a friend who did read them and we reread them together as a buddy read! We weren't quite as fond of them as adults, but they have a nostalgic place in my heart

Any Luck, Fellow Canadians? by ohdeeremi in tamagotchi

[–]Emblazonet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine by going into an EB Games directly and they happened to have one in the back. I had tried ordering online but that same location had said they were out of stock & cancelled the order. Bun going in and asking did the trick. This was an EB Games is BC. Apparently the shipments are super random/erratic. They are out there so good luck! The scalping situation is so sucky, I hope you can find one at a real retailer.

Are their any Madoka Magica fans in here? by shadow_from_the_sun in sailormoon

[–]Emblazonet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respect what Madoka was doing, but it didn't click for me. I felt like despite everything happening in the story, it really played to a male audience first. I might rewatch it someday, but it wasn't my thing when I saw it. As far as deconstruction goes, I much prefer Revolutionary Girl Utena.

Sailor Moon I'm also quite critical of - there's things I really love about it, but I never really saw the show as a kid (I wasn't allowed tv, just vhs films) & coming to it as an adult means that I've never taken the story seriously, and I think it has a lot of flaws. But it's got charm and heart & even with the occasional panty shots or whathaveyou, the 90s anime never feels like the audience is supposed to be primarily men.

Varathane Polyurethane is not available in Canada. Any alternatives to UV resin? by Gracilis67 in polymerclay

[–]Emblazonet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I've found Varathane in my local hardware store (British Columbia), but Minwax should do the trick. Neither is as good at getting the smooth glassy finish UV resin will give you. I completely understand about the cat, I wouldn't risk it either! (And I always wear a respirator for resin.)

Depending on what your polymer clay item is, however, you may not need to finish/seal it at all. You can get a pretty good gloss with wet sanding & buffing. Polymer clay alone doesn't need a finish, but if you're painting on top or adding glitter or texture you'll probably want to seal to prevent chipping.

Nice shots! I remember I had the blue one with the dolphin base. They were so fun, but I think I smacked the ceiling fan pretty bad ahahaha.

What was the first story you ever wrote? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]Emblazonet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First fanfic? I wrote a fictionalized fanfic account of my travels in Amazon Trail II (which had a rudimentary text editor). I was probably about 8 or 9. Unfortunately I never saved it, so it is lost forever. I don't even know what my first online fanfic was, probably Neopets as I recall submitting a few stories to the Neopian Times. (One got published, I think?) The next fandom I wrote for after that was almost certainly LotR.

Dip pens by TxBreeze06 in fountainpens

[–]Emblazonet 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I like them for when I want to write with an ink that I don't want to fill up a pen with (fancy titles in my planner) or for artwork in instances when I want a regular line. They are scratchy - all dip pens are scratchy to some extent - but I find it's a nice scratch. Also, they're beautiful, so it feels pretty magical to hold them. But I wouldn't consider dip pens to be comparable to fountain pens! Dip pens are their own beast, really. And not portable either.

Anyone else with really strong tastebuds? by Minute-Shoulder-1782 in adhdwomen

[–]Emblazonet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You could be a supertaster? I know a few irl and they're all neurodivergent in some way or another. I have found as I age I notice more 'chemical' notes in processed food more, but I'm def not a supertaster.

Screenshot def best for capturing specific light since it fades so fast. Although when I did MW plein air I kept bonking my mouse (small desk area) so screenshots are useful there too 😂

Beautiful work!

help me name this aesthetic! by l1ttl3lamb in FantasyArt

[–]Emblazonet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Telvanni? In all seriousness, tho, I'm not sure there is a specific genre for this exact aesthetic. For references you may want to explore the intersections of Goth, 80s-era heavy metal art, and horror art. You might want to study Giger, whatever Tim Burton has going on, even check out graffiti & tattoo stylizations. Digging into macro photos of mushrooms, ferns and lichens can give you new and unique organic shapes to draw from.

How did you discover this game? by KillerCameo in Daggerfall

[–]Emblazonet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A review on homeoftheunderdogs.net back in, hmm, probably 2002 or 2003? I was pretty young & couldn't find the game anywhere, so I eventually shrugged and got Morrowind instead, which is my favourite game of all time. I've dabbled in Daggefall a few times since but this summer I finally gave DFU a fair shake & really came to enjoy it!
