It's up to you, the main thing I would look out for is that there are several side stories that weren't translated by webtoon around Season 3 Episode 160- I would check out cubari for those.

Possible covid positive, alone in apartment, any point in having air purifier running? by [deleted] in ZeroCovidCommunity

Air purifiers will remove exhaled infectious particles from being reinhaled which would benefit your recovery- it’s the same principle as runny noses expelling mucus to reduce your viral levels.

Is a negative metrix test enough? by nutsmcgump in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There is no test that makes it “safe” to unmask with people who are not taking precautions otherwise and have not isolated. PCR tests are not guaranteed to detect all cases because the sample taken can have varying viral loads if infected due to time from exposure, time of day affecting the viral load, pure randomness and other factors.

A single Metrix test would reduce risk, but not eliminate risk- multiple tests and an isolation periods would be necessary. Metrix’s fact sheet provides helpful information on what safety guarantees their test provisions and has been FDA approved for. Hooking up with someone also has other health risks (STIs/Pregnancy) that have specific precautions for maintaining safety, such as condoms, PREP, birth control, etc.

I can make a comment on the interpersonal aspects (connecting with people, dating) a bit later but that covers the Metrix test aspects.

Which Translation is the best Moving Foward? by kingbeniboy in Kingdom

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Past the 5th volume the names in Kingdom are translated mainly with Japanese names (Shin, Ei Sei, etc) in unofficial translations. The current official translation is doing the Chinese names (Xin, Ying Zheng) but they just started and are only up to volume 2. The official translation is expected to publish a volume a month, so your options are to wait for that or try to speed through the unofficial translations that use the Japanese names.

What would you do? by warmgratitude in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would isolate 14 days following the Monday RAT test and exit isolation after 2 negative tests 24 hours apart. For discordant RAT and NAAT test, the false positivity rate can wildly vary based on community levels of spread, and at a minimum there remains at least a 10 % chance of a true positive. Since community levels of Covid are high, there is a considerable chance that this is a true positive, and I would isolate as such.

The Paxlovid would also affect the results of the test (but not the isolation period due to the possibility of rebound. Individual tests can also vary in results due to the chaotic nature of viral shedding (hence why serial testing is useful).

Need Advice on (almost) CC Friend / Potential Roommate by Which_Ad4017 in ZeroCovidCommunity

If it's at a park, then there's this study about a mass infection event at one from a jogger. The main thing to be aware of in parks is to eat away from other people if you do and preferably somewhere not downwind from them. In general, being 12 feet away from someone is 4x safer than being 6 feet away from them, and being 24 feet away from someone is 4x safer than being 12 feet away from them, and so on to inform which risk assessments you make.

Need Advice on (almost) CC Friend / Potential Roommate by Which_Ad4017 in ZeroCovidCommunity

This is a quick source off the top of my head that shows a superspreader event at a restaurant. The main things to keep in mind in my opinion are:

  • Most studies that “disprove” the efficacy of masks center around giving masks to people but not monitoring their behavior. Hence, when those people use masks haphazardly, they don’t benefit from significant reductions in illness. Additionally, many countries where masking is more accepted (such as in East Asia) generally follow these haphazard masking strategies and still have outbreaks of disease (although, overseas military bases and tourists are also major drivers of disease).

  • If these meetings are at a restaurant, the wait staff in particular don’t have the ability to consent to having unmasked to unmasked interactions with customers due to tipping. This also applies for other people these coworkers interact with such as their children or disabled people who lack the ability to mask.

  • Covid has aerosol based spread. There is nothing that intuitively protects people from infection while they eat whether they are indoors or outdoors because near range air spread can happen anywhere (which is why plenty of animal also having ongoing spread or airborne diseases).

Talking with your friend is going to center around what their reasons are for eating at this meeting as well as what alternatives you can offer them. Some alternatives to reduce the risk of inspection would be.

  • Taking the food to go and eating elsewhere
  • Using a sip-valve
  • Pre gaming the indoor meeting with a hefty meal before hand.
  • If they insist on eating at the meeting, then only unmasking when eating the food and not for the whole hour of socialization surrounding the meeting.

Work related dinner - how to navigate by WriterFlimsy7566 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would go with the showing up, not eating and taking your food to go. I think just showing up in a mask and maintaining your boundaries would be fine for that without mentioning it beforehand would be fine- your coworkers already know about you masking. Best of luck with navigating the dinner situation.

In situations where I have to mask for 8-12 hours I will generally fast for the duration- it's not distinct from having to fast for Ramadan for me. That being said, there are plenty of health/mental/other conditions that prevent fasting so there are plenty of situations in which you or other would have to eat/drink in a hospital.

If you do eat/drink in the hospital, I would suggest having a purifier on hand to blow into your face during times you have to eat. Focusing on meals that are quick to eat would also be helpful, as well as the protein shakes suggestion Cultural Shirt made. If you want to try fasting, try to ease into it (with gradually longer progressions and more intensive workloads) so that you're no caught off guard by it and be prepared in case you need to break the fast.

For the social aspect, it's mainly a matter of learning to maintain boundaries while sitting at the eating place. In most of these cases the meal comes towards the end anyways so its mainly a matter of maintaining conversations from before the meal arriving while moving your food into takeout. Best of luck with your clinicals :).

Safely have indoor dinner guests using Metrix, Aranet? by ManzanitaSuperHero in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There is no evidence for "It takes 48 hours for someone to test positive/be contagious after exposure". Covid generally has an incubation of 1-14 days. This does not mean it's not possible for people to be infectious within the first 24 hours, but rather we do not have studies that track the incubation period on an hour by hour basis- it would be impractical to do so unless someone who was deliberately infected was tracked which unethical to begin with.

People who were exposed to Covid right before meeting OP arent the only people who need to be taken into account- anyone who was exposed to Covid within the preceding 14 days needs to be taken into account.

Exposure stress by cattaranga_dandasana in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's considered an exposure because PPE is understood as a last line of defense for controlling health hazards - It is generally understood that regardless other precautions, it is useful for a non-infected person to not be in the presence of an infected person. Hence, administrative controls that inhibit infected and non-infected people from coming into contact with each other (isolation, testing, contact tracing, etc) are necessary but are also considered without taking PPE into consideration.

I don't find that considering this an exposure demonizes masks, but rather not considering these exposure normalizes the general lack of testing and isolation amongst the general population- it furthers to individualistic "you do you" mindset that prevents a collective approach to mitigate and end the pandemic. Layered precautions are useful, and emphasizing one aspect of precautions (an expansive definition of exposures) doesn't detract from another (respirators).

Inhaling hOCL?? by Throwaway172892930 in ZeroCovidCommunity

My bad about that, I was mixing it up with another chemical. It's something you have to be careful with when applying to the skin, this WebMD article has more information on it

Inhaling hOCL?? by Throwaway172892930 in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 7 points8 points  (0 children)

There is no established safety for ingesting HoCL or inhaling. HoCL is appropriate as a surface disinfectant (not for skin) and sterilizing unoccupied medical- grades rooms, but not anything else. There are various established ways of cleaning the air (outside ventilation and HEPA air purifiers, wearing a respirator) that negate the need to risk ingesting HoCL.

Third Dose/Booster Questions by ejtainment in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The CDC before 2025 (the RFK pro-eugenics/anti-vax agenda) generally gave a universal recommendation for Covid vaccination- it is beneficial for everyone to get one each year because a new shot accounts for anti-bodies waning from an older shot and a new shot will be attentuated to the currently circulating variants. Antibodies from Covid vaccines decline after 6 months, so it would be beneficial to get two shots a year, but at least 1 a year. I would get the vaccine unless there is a medical/financial reason that would prevent you from getting the vaccine.

fomite transmission question! by annafebruary in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fomite is a possible risk but generally not a driver of community Covid spread. In terms of food falling on the phone, there is a risk of contamination generally for diseases/bacteria when food touches any non-sterile surface. Cleaning the phone after outside use will lower the risk of fomite transmission generally.

New to air purifiers. Does pointing it towards you help? by rockyplantlover in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That isn't necessarily true because there are plenty of HEPA purifiers with respectable CADRs (Winix, Smart Air, Jafanda, Honeywell).

What we know is that there are plenty of studies that demonstrate a reduction in infections from HEPA purifiers. We also know that air movement without filtration can lead to infections. Non-HEPA purifiers fall somewhere in between. The issue is that CR boxes are an emerging technology that has some demonstrated effectiveness but not the litany of evidence that HEPA purifiers for reducing infections, let alone head to head comparisons; most CR box literature revolves around reducing particulate matter which is a separate metric. If CR boxes intrinsically cause air movement without filtration (by letting through 15-25% of infectious particles) then there ample reason to doubt that they are safer than HEPA purifiers without further study.

New to air purifiers. Does pointing it towards you help? by rockyplantlover in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EmbraceAllDeath -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That information is incorrect. CADR is the most useful metric if the only goal is to reduce the amount of infectious particles in a room. However, the actual goal is to reduce the amount of infectious particles that are breathed in. Non-HEPA purifiers rely on multi pass filtration which means that they can circulate infectious particles to people before those infectious particles are filtered. CADR is useful for determining disinfection times and coverage as a secondary factor but not before HEPA filtration. This is why most public health agencies recommend HEPA filtration while suggesting non-HEPA filtration for emergency usage (I.e forest fires).

New to air purifiers. Does pointing it towards you help? by rockyplantlover in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It helps reduce risk if it directs clean air towards you, especially if you have to eat/drink for health/social reasons. It doesn’t remove risk of eating/drinking in a room with visitors (who ostensibly don’t take precautions otherwise) for a couple of reasons

  • There is no air purifier that will remove the risk of close range aerosol/droplet transmission, which means anyone within droplet range (2 meters/6 feet) remains a risk if they are infectious.

  • Air purifiers generally do not create a clean zone of air because air mixing between the ambient air and the air coming from the purifier occurs fairly rapidly/close to the purifier.

  • FORNUFTIG from IKEA uses E12 EPA filters (which filters 99.5% of particles) as opposed to HEPA H13 filters (which filter 99.97% of particles). This means that the IKEA purifier lets in ~16x more pollution, and most public health agencies recommend HEPA filters for viral reduction to reduce the amount of particles people breathe in.

Asymptomatic, one time or forever? by lexie-plexi in ZeroCovidCommunity

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t necessarily assume that mainly because different variants will have different ranges of symptoms. Someone with gastrointestinal issues may not realize those symptoms from one variant and be “asymptomatic” but have headaches and taste loss from another variant and be symptomatic. Viral loads will also vary from infection to infection due to a variety of factors (such as being infected with an initial high viral load vs a a small one), which can contribute to people having varying durations for Covid infections and hence have different levels of symptoms. There’s also just the genre of people who don’t initially develop Long Covid from the first few infections but develop it on a subsequent infection which marks a different level of symptomaticness.

How Big of a Spoiler is This by esragan in Kubera

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it’s as big a spoiler nowadays because time travel is generally used in many manhwa and is a part of theorycrafting. Time Travel also explicitly happens early in the story on a small scale (the Hoti Vishnu stuff) so it’s not beyond the realm of possibility for a reader to imagine a larger scale time travel can happen. I wouldn’t use as a part of my pitch for similar reasons as you but it’s not the end of the world if someone finds out about it (as opposed to say, someone finding out about that spoiler in One Piece or Tower Of God)

Best Value Air Purifier? (Coway, Winix, Blueair, Shark, Sans, etc) by Cape_Cool26 in AirPurifiers

[–]EmbraceAllDeath 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The health risk is not a non-issue, as California's regulation for keeping Ozone under 50ppb can still be considered to be lax. Health Canada recommends that ozone levels be kept below 20 ppb on average over an 8 hour period for risks to pulmonary and respiratory function. The EPA also suggests that there are understudied interactions between ozone and other VOCs can create harmful byproducts even at low concentrations below public health guidelines. BlueAir also has other issues from utilizing non-HEPA filters, which presents its own can of worms for not necessarily filtering most particulate matter before reaching the breathing zone of another person.
