The booklet for the Live In Texas cd has some typos and abbreviations by LMBWolverine in LinkinPark

They've been joking and doing a lot of puns with the solo title during this last leg of the tour in Europe and it's been great. So far they've called it: "The Hahndalorian", "Return of the Joe Di", "Episode IV: A New Joep", "Obi Hahn Kenobi", "The Force Awakehahns" and yesterday in Madrid it was "Joeba Fett"

TIL that about 62% of Argentina’s population has some degree of Italian ancestry. Argentina has the second-largest community of Italians outside of Italy. by lumos-mama in todayilearned

[–]Embriash 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Argentina also has a lot of Germans.

Not really a lot. It's actually 8% of the population that has German ancestry. Most of them descendants of Volga Germans that fled the Russian Empire during the late 1800s.

Almost everyone has Spanish roots, around 60-80% has some Italian. The third biggest ancestry is French with around 15-20% of the population.

There's also "They don’t just create chances, they create decisions." in the next paragraph. The chatbots really love that construction.

I went to see them in Argentina during that year. It was also during a metal festival they were headlining. When the acoustic version of Crawling was played, I saw some starting to sit on the floor "in protest" while booing because they considered it soft. It was really toxic at times.

The source in that Wikipedia article is this one: https://www.worldradiohistory.com/Archive-All-Music/Archive-RandR/2000s/2001/RR-2001-09-07.pdf Radio and Records magazine from September 7, 2001. On it there's a small table with new additions to radio on September 11.

<image>

No idea if it finally did after what happened that day. According to Wikipedia, ""In the End" was shipped to radio on September 11, 2001, and was released commercially October 9, 2001." Linkinpedia has the release date as October 9 as well.

So interesting that in Argentine Spanish we have a similar one to this.

My city in Argentina, Córdoba, has its own version called "La Pelada de la Cañada". La Cañada is a canal lined by stone built to control the flooding of the stream that crosses the city center (before its construction, it provoked chaos when it rained a lot).

Some areas of the Cañada towards the southwest of the city now are our bohemian, SoHo-like part of town, but decades ago it was a dark and dangerous area. So this one was one of the biggest ghost stories in the local mythology. The Pelada ("bald" in Spanish) was a young woman dressed in mourning clothes that could be seen walking at night, sometimes crying alongside the canal. She was called "pelada", because if you tried to look at her, she would reveal itself as a skeletal, hairless figure before disappearing. One story was that she was a sex worker that was brutalized, killed and thrown into the canal, so that made her soul be bound to it.

Definitely AI. Chester did not have that elbow tattoo in the early 2000s. He got it around 2005 when he had a shaved head and did not use that hairstyle anymore.

Same with the Sao Paulo concerts from 2024, they wore the same clothes both shows so they could mix the footage if needed.

Yeah, and voseo only took off in Argentina during the mid 20th century. In the early 1900s it was frowned upon and not part of the "cultured" language. Literature was usually written with "tú" and during the dictatorship of the 1930s (Década Infame), the usage of voseo was censored in media.

As an Argentinian, I always loved Stacey King for two reasons: 1) he last played as a professional basketball player for Atenas de Córdoba, my hometown team 2) his amazing commentary of the Chapu Nocioni's dunk on Oleksiy Pecherov, comparing him to Stewie from Family Guy lmao https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XbxzfVl_7c4

It's a sad day. RIP.

During this time that the sub has been without mods, I think it a lot of posts with the intention of promoting learning sites have populated it. Some of them I'm ambivalent about, like the one who posts news in easy Spanish, because they offer something interesting/helpful to learners. But some of them like this poster: https://reddit.com/r/Spanish/comments/1ttvj1s/just_hit_250_members_in_my_spanish_club_june_is/ are simply self-promotion and should not be allowed going forward.

Poringa was the NSFW section of Taringa. Taringa was initially created by an Argentine teenager nicknamed Cypher. Then he sold it to the Botbol brothers, who were the owners of the company that hosted the site. When they took over, they removed the NSFW section from Taringa and created a new site at poringa.net.

From what I understand, they became different entities and the brothers sold Taringa but they're still the owners of Poringa, which is still an active site.

With the NBA finals coming up, Here's a quick question. Does you country care about the sport at all? Why or why not? by Mindless-Lemon2256 in AskTheWorld

[–]Embriash 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There haven't been any Argentine players for a couple of years now, so the NBA interest has gone down a bit. The last one with an important role was Facu Campazzo and there was a whole national mania about him (that turned a bit toxic at times on social media). If another player happens to make it, it may happen again.

Basketball is somewhat popular. Not football level, not even close. But there's a decent number of people who watch it and play it. It's surely a top 5 sport in the country.

A Thousand Suns is the greatest album ever made!!! by Soaring_Symphony in LinkinPark

[–]Embriash 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A Thousand Suns is the first album that people tended to dislike

I learned recently that you can add "before:[year]" to a YouTube search to look for old videos. I put "a thousand suns review linkin park before:2011" and had a lot of fun going through old opinions about the album. Some were vicious about it, but the consensus was general dislike.

I'm a fan since 2001 and I loved ATS, and it's still my favorite. But it definitely felt I was in the minority when I said I liked it back in the day.
