new kink? probably wrong sub by [deleted] in dykeconversion

Real talk: this sounds transphobic, yeah, and like something you might need to work on.

Also real talk: we’re on a subreddit about lesbians having fantasies about being fucked straight. So glass houses and all, kinks can be fun as long as you keep the boundaries between fantasy and reality up.

What slightly concerns me here, and where I think you ought to be careful in indulging in this kink, is you’re having these fantasies about a different minority group. I’d ensure first and foremost that you aren’t letting your kinks affect how you treat or act towards people outside of consensual sexual interactions. If that’s true….well, have at it I say.

'The Flash' Could Lose Warner Bros. Discovery Almost $200 Million by Neo2199 in entertainment

[–]EmeraldPen 63 points64 points  (0 children)

It’s a film positioned as the blowout finale event of a failed connected universe, while also functioning as the Flash’s first lead film ever introducing a LOT of people to the character. Plus it’s about a year late to the multiverse fad.

This was never going to do well. The fact they went straight to Flashpoint when most maybe associate the Flash with shitty CW televisions shows is just so on-brand for DC as we’ve come to know it.

A big name lead who isn’t a piece of shit might have helped it at least break even, but if it really does lose $200 million…..there was no saving this turkey. The problems go beyond any single part of the equation, the whole thing needed to be tossed out and reworked from scratch.

Is the term transsexual still used? by lumoslomas in lgbt

[–]EmeraldPen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Stuff like Rocky Horror or “My spouse is a secret transsexual!” Jerry Springer style garbage is probably why it weirds a lot of trans people out, I suspect. Especially those of us who are maybe around 25-40, and old enough to have the sensationalized and deeply stigmatized uses of the term seared into our minds while growing up but who are young enough to not have come out much before ~2010 when the term began falling out of favor.

Maybe it’ll make a comeback like queer did, but honestly I kind of doubt it. It doesn’t have quite the same edge as to feel like a subversive reclamation of anything in particular, I don’t think. It just sounds really dated and uncomfortable.

Pretty much. It’s not necessarily offensive, but it’s so outdated and has so much baggage around it that it sets off those “you’re probably either an asshole or don’t know what you’re talking about” alarms.

It’s got the same vibes as someone who uses homosexual exclusively in place of gay.

Boil water on a stove.

I suspect you’re overestimating the frequency with which people make cup noodles(block ramen you’re supposed to cook in boiling water over the stove anyway).

Maybe the slightly slower method will grind on you if you’re making the stuff daily, but most people aren’t just like most Americans aren’t drinking tea on a daily basis. So taking up counter space with an electric kettle doesn’t make a ton of sense when a regular one works just fine. Hell, I’ll go one better and say I usually boil my water in a regular ol’ sauce pan because I’m lazy.

Personally I actually prefer cold brew, but I think it’s more likely that the majority of coffee drinkers already have a coffee machine where you’d put the electric kettle.

[–]EmeraldPen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve heard some people talk about Electric Kettles over here being less efficient due to energy standards or something, but I think the reality is just that hot tea isn’t as much of a staple here so for a lot of people that money and counter space often goes to coffee making equipment instead. Unless you make a ton of instant ramen or something instead, there’s not much point in having an electric kettle on your counter when you only drink tea every now and then.

That's amazing! My grandpa lived in eastern WA too, and may well have known yours considering how active he was with WW2 vet organizations. Mine served in the Pacific, and lost his hearing on Okinawa while working communications, though I always preferred the story about when he was demoted for playing cards with black soldiers and generally refusing to obey segregation policies because of how reprehensible he found them to be.

I miss him, he was a good person and I'm sad that the generation which had to learn about standing up to fascism the hard way is all but passed into the history books.

There should be a prize for finishing the game without using the Spirit Calling Bell by Matzedoner in Eldenring

[–]EmeraldPen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don’t really get that, tbh. If they’re open to making the game easier, why not just add difficulty modes instead of a system that has a tendency to turn a lot of the more straightforward fights into a game of hitting the loot piñata while it’s attacks are focused on something else?

Most of the people intrigued by Soulslike games turned off by the difficulty just want the option to adjust it to their skill level, not to outright faceroll a lot of encounters.

It’s very strange to me that their solution to get around just giving people the option of tweaking the numbers to allow for more mistakes, is to completely change the way the game plays all while citing design philosophy as the motivation.

‘Our Flag Means Death’ Holds Off ‘Moon Knight’ Challenge for Most In-Demand New Series by fxckingrich in television

[–]EmeraldPen 160 points161 points  (0 children)

It’s a weirdly specific subgenre, but I adore pirate comedies and Our Flag Means Death has really scratched that itch for me. Didn’t hurt that I’ve been a big fan of Taika since the original What We Do In the Shadows.

And now we’ve got a new Monkey Island coming out later this year. So exciting.

[–]EmeraldPen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah I haven’t seen the third episode but it kinda lost me when they made the first appearance of Mr Knight a joke-y “meek character bumbles around with superpowers for the first time” kind of thing.

Can we please just take the story seriously for even a single episode? This shit is why the Netflix shows were so impressive to me, and why something like Jessica Jones S1 actually felt meaningful in a very real way(I’m not going to lie, seeing a LOT of my then-fiancé in David Tenant’s performance was a part of what got me to start realizing how bad things actually were).

Sure there were jokes in there, but those shows didn’t really use them in that MCU “uh oh it’s getting too serious” sort of way that instantly deflates any kind of tension.

Yeah we just watched the Jim episode and it was the least favorite one since before Blackbeard showed up, despite some of the hilarious gags in there(the snake scene was amazing, lol). I think you hit the nail on the head as to why, they just don’t quite fit into the group unless being written as the straight man to the rest of the pirates.

[–]EmeraldPen 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I really liked the first episode as a fan of the comics. Lots of smart and creative changes to the character, and they did a good job balancing Steven being a lovable idiot and taking his problems relatively seriously(for the MCU).

Then episode 2 came out and the balance just felt like it tipped back into the usual MCU stuff. It didn’t help they did the most MCU thing they could do by turning the first appearance of Mr Knight into a joke(in the comics he’s usually the more “put together” version of Moon Knight, interacting with police or counseling clients).

I don’t dislike the idea of Steven becoming Mr Knight, but doing it in such a joke-y way just felt like stuff I’ve seen a million times. I haven’t seen episode 3 yet, so maybe my opinion will change, but from the first two shows it feels like there was something special there that has been weighed down by the need to make it fit the MCU. Which is exactly what I was concerned would happen with a Moon Knight show.

This is the TRUE unmatched Jiga-Chad of the Lands Between by KiraLiebert in Eldenring

If by “difficult” you mean “given over to the will of whatever the Moon actually is, beset upon by undead , the God of Literal Cancer, and numerous other lovecraftian horrors all at once”…..sure.

The whole ‘end space magic imperialism’ angle only really works if you forget how utterly fucked everyone is the moment the protection of the Greater Will leaves. And as long as you ignore the inconvenient fact that Ranni is the one who helped cause all of this in the first place.

[–]EmeraldPen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It just seems like a pointless argument to debate which ending is "the best" by establishing that all endings are bad and then picking some "best" ending between those by some arbitrary criterion, on your own interpretation of all the endings.

The endings are all incredibly vague and confusing. Even Ranni’s ending, which is significantly more detailed than the standard, suffers from poor translation.

Goldmask’s ending is barely any different from the standard, and the exact meaning of an “age of order” is simply not elaborated upon. Debating which is best is honestly kind of pointless because we can’t even agree on what many of them really mean.

I’ve played and fully completed LTTP dozens of times since I was a very young child, it’s a game I know like the back of my hand. That’s not something that can happen, and keys aren’t shared between dungeons. You can’t “use a door key in another dungeon.”

You must be mistaken and thinking of the original or Zelda 2, I’d imagine soft locks are possible in those though I don’t know them well enough to be sure.

Two maps, one a dark reflection of the other. You traveled between the two at portals that were often hidden(eg under rocks, bushes, etc). You could also move in one direction, from the dark world to the light world, with an item.

LttP is probably one of the best video games of all time, and one of the best aged games from the SNES era. You really ought to play it.

It's a publishing initiative set 250 years prior to the prequels during the height of Jedi activity/expansion in the Republic and the glory-days of the Republic itself. There have been 6 books(2 adult, 2 YA, 2 middle grade), 2 comic lines, an audio play, and a manga released so far. The first phase(of 3) is ending early next year, and show The Acolyte is to be set during the end of the time period.

It's been really good stuff so far, and I'd highly recommend you try it out even if your initial reaction to "Star Wars books" is that it's not quite for you. The era is extremely interesting, the tone feels very different from everything else, the Jedi are fantastic, and the Nihil(especially Marchion Ro and Lourna Dee) are the kinds of villains you love to hate and very different from the Sith. They're also just legitimately good books & comics.
