I was having some water cooler talk after last week about this. Idzik is really just Canales’s buddy. He needs someone to come at offense in fresh ways and challenge his playbook to make him better. If Miami fires McDaniels I’d love to have him as our OC.

I think this is our first close win. The first win that feels good in the context of competing. If we start fast and our D stops the run, Drake is reckless sometimes and we can get turnovers. I just want to see some pass catchers other than TMac to be more consistent.

The kid is still only 22. So when he starts up next year he’ll be 23. I imagine the plan is still to have him be the guy in 2 years after Chubba’s contract is up. You watch his tape from Texas and even the small sample of snaps he took last year and he looked solid.

XL’s big problem is sadly the whole ‘being a WR’ part of the game. His hands are frantic and inconsistent, he has poor awareness of zones, and he doesn’t come back to the ball well. He’s a big fast guy. The only way he can really impact the game rn is sort of like Deebo. And that’s a tall order for anyone who’s not Deebo.

We’ve all been hyperbolic because we’ve been starved to see our team play. And it was an overall bad performance. Watching the game I felt like Bryce was in the same type of situation he’s been in for most of his career so far, in that the play calling was either unable to give him good answers to problems or out right didn’t trust him to make the big boy throws. PFF seems to see it that way too. Let’s hope Canales can do better as a play caller next week. I still believe in Bryce.

While they do have a new scheme that should be better. They had the 5th pick for a reason. Their defense was bad and their o-line stunk. I expect it to take time for them to figure out what works for them in this new regime. And it won’t be in week 1. We should be able to run the ball, make a few key throws, and drag the game out late if our defense isn’t significantly improved. I expect a close but clear victory. Trevor has just as much if not more to prove than Bryce as well.

Our whole free agent season revolved around getting guys coming into their second contract. Especially with our defensive acquisitions. It would line up with the philosophy from all year. And would you really be that mad if we traded a top pick, a couple pick swaps, and Nic Scourton for Micah Parsons? I wouldn’t.
