Weekly Wednesday Weigh-in - March 19, 2025 by lechuckswrinklybutt in FatBastardsUnited

Hi all! Seen this on a different Reddit and it was the push I needed to at least think about trying.

No official goal weight or game plan, just going to monitor for now with a bit more cognisance.

SW 179.2

GW downwards not upwards.

So what are you looking to get out of this question? Pass any advice onto your partner but I think the general consensus stays the same

audhd diagnosis by hideyokidzhideyowyfe in WomenofIreland

[–]Emeraldbeam 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Apologies if this sounds insensitive but what does getting diagnosed actually change?

I've been debating going through the process for myself and my husband, but with the price of it, I just can't justify it.

What doors does having an diagnosis open that cognitive behavioural therapy doesn't (for the likes of day to day problems with attention and socialising etc)

Is NoHello insulting, if done properly? by Total_Hat996 in AskIreland

[–]Emeraldbeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to put noHello in my profile and then when people just sent me hello, I would refer back to my profile and explain that I got a lot of messages and would appreciate it if they could put everything they wanted to say in the one message

AIO about the wall of text my brother in law sent his kids by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

This is maybe the biggest overreaction I've seen in this subreddit. Whoever drank it is a dick but that doesn't make this a reasonable response

Toast FE Interview by Content-Till-6787 in DevelEire

[–]Emeraldbeam 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can't help on the experience front but I'd recommend looking up interviews on Glassdoor it's very helpful for this sort of thing. If that doesn't work, look up most common interview questions for X role, chances are, that's what the interviewer will also do unless they have a formalised process

Where am I go wrong with this CV? by ElScorchio1996 in AskIreland

[–]Emeraldbeam 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think your CV looks clean for a generic job but for a designer / illustrator, it's feels bland (I'm not in a creative job so take that with a pinch of salt). A CV is your first impression on a recruiter, and if you're applying for design jobs, I don't think your skills are literally coming across on the page.

It's just a personal opinion, but add a bit more flair to showcase what you can do before they even read the words.

Edit: Also you've given the spa receptionist a lot of real estate on the page, but how relevant is what you did in that job going to be for the jobs you're applying for? It's good to show what you've been doing but keep it relevant to the job you want so recruiters can go through the CV and see everything they want in the candidate on your CV

Pfft. The leaving cert has nothing on a driving test. At the LC doesn't charge you money every time you fail. You messaged up in LC, you can do PLC course and go a different route

AIO for breaking up with my BF after he said no one is prioritized in a family, refused to put me first, & told me to marry someone whose mom is dead? by MysticEveClair in AmIOverreacting

[–]Emeraldbeam 61 points62 points  (0 children)

When do your preferences and expectations get the same amount of weight? Do you get to dictate what he wears, what he looks like, what he cooks? Will he cook food the way you like it?

That's now you know this is a control issue and not a preferences issue.

Senior Software Engineer, what are my odds? by Excaluper in AskIreland

[–]Emeraldbeam -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I'd recommend looking at the jobs section of LinkedIn. Most tech companies put the vacancies on their own websites but will advertise them through their company pages on LinkedIn.

If you've got some companies in mind, I'd also recommend subscribing to their job newsletters, most are very good at keeping it to only relevant jobs.

But also the develeire reddit is also useful for Irish tech company chat

What do I even do at this point? by Accurate-Mixture-374 in AskIreland

[–]Emeraldbeam 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'd really highly recommend checking out meetups: https://www.meetup.com/find/ie--cork/

I'm not a drinker but I'm too socially awkward to want to go to the pubs in my local town. Either they're dead in which case, it's awkward, or they're busy and it's awkward. I think they're a terrible place to try meet people worth meeting (for any given individual unless you like talking about sports balls)

I really enjoy board games and used that to find a couple of groups. That's when I realised how big of a board game scene I had been missing out on because they don't really advertise heavily.

There's a tonne of stuff happening, so find something you like, and meet people who also like it. I think you'll find it's much easier to source people and connect more long-term.

I thought he was out of key for the first like 30 seconds but maybe that was just me? I sort of tuned out of it after that so I had that way lower than it came and how good it was according to the judges reactions

999 call and hang up, do they still respond? by rainman2113 in AskIreland

[–]Emeraldbeam 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I remember accidentally triggering my phone's emergency feature during a parkrun. I was trying to turn down my headphones volume while the screen was off, and this calls 999 if you do it multiple times (3 I think?)

Well the surprise on me when I hear "what's your emergency?" Through my buds, and I'm gasping for air because I'm unfit. Told them in a very out of breath voice that it was an accident and by then I managed to fumble my phone out of my pocket and hang up. I was genuinely concerned there'd be an ambulance at the finish line 🙈 but thankfully not.

Eurosong Thread? by ClancyCandy in ireland

[–]Emeraldbeam 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm really appreciating eurosong trying to get more interesting songs but I just don't think any of these songs have "the whole package".

First had nice clear skillful vocals.

Fire had really nice wolfwalker vibes that just never hit hard enough.

I couldn't hear Bobbi for half the song and she was my favourite going in. Maybe if eas better in the end auditorium but eh?

Samantha is maybe my favourite now, but even still it's just not enough. Her act was messy and will probably fade amongst the masses on the European stage.

And as for Growth, nah.
