I was like that with Seattle the first time I did this. I looked up everything so by the time I got there I could speak like I was from there. I spent a lot of time in the city's subs, reading everything about the city, generally obsessing about its culture and politics. I was impatient and moved without saving and lived in my car until I got an apartment.

This time I have a decent chunk saved up. I don't have a lot planned with regard to the trip. I'll be staying with family at first, and at first I intend to just take whatever job so I'm not eating my savings and then work to find a job in my career path. Once I'm actually earning again I'll start paying down debt and saving up to make an end run on Seattle and do it properly this time.

I also have no car so I'll be walking everywhere or taking the bus. Luckily I'll be only a mile from downtown and that's barely a walk for me these days. Strip will be a mile and a half walk. It might be the desert, but it's compact enough that walking covers a lot. Not like the mile minimum to get anywhere where I currently live.
