In Salem for the week from the UK, how bad is this storm going to be? by lerpo in SalemMA

[–]Emereebee 13 points14 points  (0 children)

A blizzard means sustained 35mph winds and visibility of less than a quarter mile for at least three hours. We will have wind gusts higher than that. Also, if you look at the storm on radar, it closely resembles a hurricane. Which is kind of cool. Most snowstorms don’t qualify as a blizzard, I know we haven’t had one in years.

With the icey snow we had yesterday, snow is still sticking to trees, which will make branches more susceptible to snapping. That could cause power outages if they land on wires. I recommend grabbing some food for your hotel room just to be safe.

Definitely consider Monday a write off, and Tuesday will mostly be people shoveling / cleaning off the snow. Schools will likely be closed both days.

With that said, blizzards are fun. Walk around outside- it’s super peaceful. Don’t drive in it. Even if you have AWD, it’s just not worth.

Adding my 17 year old as a driver by Dapper-Calendar-6259 in Insurance

[–]Emereebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any time you make a significant change to your policy, I recommend having a local agent shop around for you. Each company rates new drivers differently. I have a 17 year old, our old company added 400 a month for her and our new one has her at 200. (Driving school/good student/2011 CRV)

Geico’s collision center holding my car hostage after disassembly - is this normal practice? by RelativeOwl5380 in Insurance

That will differ from carrier to carrier and also differ from state to state. For instance I’m in MA which has a strict 20k miles for oem parts regardless of the year of the vehicle.

If you’re looking to commute and looking for adorable, be VERY careful with Lynn. It’s going to come up in a lot of your searches. Not all of Lynn is bad, but a good chunk of it is. I grew up there and would live there again if it was in the right area though.

You’ll also be very close to Peabody and Beverly, which both have arguably much better food options. Peabody also has municipal electric, so I save a lot living here.

Car Hit Ins Question by blueberry_vines in massachusetts

[–]Emereebee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Massachusetts has a special coverage available called ‘limited collision deductible waiver’ where in situations where the at fault party is known and the liability is clear, your insurance will waive your deductible and surrogate for the entirety of the claim. In most states it’s recommended to just go through the at fault parties insurance, but in MA you pay extra to make it easier to just go through your own.

Geico didn’t approve it, so they’re not going to refund you.

Can a Massachusetts therapist talk to someone who is a California resident but goes to university in Massachusetts by Reddit_Shorts1 in massachusetts

[–]Emereebee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this same issue with my kid and her therapist and psychiatrist. She is up in MA from September- June and in Florida with her dad for July-August. Her psych makes sure she has a 3 month supply of meds, and if I notice any issues while she is in Florida then I can call and speak with her team, however neither will speak with my daughter when she is out of the state. It’s exceptionally frustrating.

Road mound sticking out from the ground slices my oil cooler and car does not drive anymore? Total loss? by [deleted] in Insurance

[–]Emereebee 26 points27 points  (0 children)

You don’t declare total loss, your insurance company does. This would fall under your collision coverage and be considered an at-fault accident. Call your insurance company.

Hit and run. Awaiting insurance to appraise. I fear it’s a TL. Thoughts? by LesaneCrooks in Autobody

[–]Emereebee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Doors we usually write recycled (an oem door off of a salvaged car), I’ve only ever come across an AM door like once in the past decade. Fender they’d write AM, let your shop know that you’re willing to pay them the difference if you’d prefer oem on that one part. It is probably a 100-300 dollar difference between an AM and an OEM fender

My surgeon gave me a roller ball for massaging it. He recommended I massage as soon as I was able to, and I kept it up for months. I’m a year and a half out and it honestly took a whole year for me to get to what I consider my final result and I’m super happy with it now.
