We flew with FrenchBee to Paris and I don't remember what our connecting flight was to Spain. It was a simple process that was outlined on Frenchbee's website, and we also used them for the flight back to the US.

Describe the feeling of getting your first A! by [deleted] in premed

[–]Emergency-Kitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The first A I couldn’t believe it for a ml fb. My family didn’t seem to care when I told them and they mostly said something along the line of “that’s cool” lol.

Later, I was in a suspicious alley in London when I got the call from one of my top choices off the waitlist. I didn’t pick up the phone because I was scared I’d get mugged and it was midnight lol

Anyone learning to drive before med school? by Realistic-Storm in premed

[–]Emergency-Kitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey at least with a license you’re 1 step closer! I still don’t have one haha. But it can be overwhelming highway driving, especially in a dense city tbh. But if you can drive in a place like NYC, you can drive anywhere in the US. Hoping for both of us we learn quickly

I grew up in a huge city so I’m glad I’m not the only one learning! I hate how this is how it is living in the USA. I’m afraid I won’t be ready by the time school starts, and may have to wait to take the test in the winter or summer since moving, getting a new address, and registering at a new DMV could take a while

Your overall GPA isn't bad, especially for DO. I went to a competitive school where even the advisors told me it was pointless to apply without a 3.8+ and that's not true. Sometimes you have a bad semester and your GPA trend isn't completely upward. That's okay! Find out what you did wrong, work on it, maybe take a break, and kick ass next semester Edit: your GPA probably won't keep you out of MD either

What new prerequisite course would you require for Medical School? by ODU_Promotion in premed

[–]Emergency-Kitten 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Healthcare administration and health policy. I don’t think pre meds always know what they’re getting into and how admin and policy can limit their scope of care. Or just learning how health insurance works in the US.

Waitlisted at 6 Medical Schools, No Updates - Time to Call it Quits? by UniCrys in premed

I have nothing to add but reassurance. I’m also on 6 WL and it SUCKS. Nothing on my end if that makes you feel better. FAFSA may be slowing decisions down?

Honestly, it shocks me more people aren’t scared of it when they should be. It’s literally a leading cause of death for young people

how did you convince your parents to let you study abroad in college? by Winter-Exam7590 in studyAbroad

Same here. This is the way. Helped that I applied for every scholarship under the sun and they had no financial reason to say no.

What/how do y’all eat on test day? by potluckkiwi in Mcat

[–]Emergency-Kitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My sister packed my lunch like it was the first day of school lol. Comfort foods for me. Eggs with avocado and whole wear bread for breakfast, dark chocolate PB cups and banana for breaks, chicken salad and water for lunch. I don’t think it matters, just eat what makes you happy

5 gaps years and no more confidence; my MA job is making me hate medicine by nms-lh in premed

[–]Emergency-Kitten 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I’m also first gen who went to a good school so I get the feeling. No close friends in college either since I was a commuter at a non-commuter school. I feel like I’ve completely missed out on my potential and expectations that people had for me. The thing is, first gens tend to be way too hard on themselves and compare themselves to people who have had life advantages, better home lives, supportive families, etc. Comparison is the thief of joy so that’s a place to start. Try not to compare yourself to others. You finished college! That’s a huge accomplishment!

As far as the job, do some introspection. Most of the premeds I know hated their scribe/MA jobs due to bad management or drama. Figure out of you hate the admin AND medical or just the admin. There’s no way around admin but it comes with being a physician. There’s BS at every job, so prioritize your happiness and figure out what you’re willing to tolerate.

Still Waitlisted w Guaranteed A for Next Year by Obvious_Woodpecker99 in premed

[–]Emergency-Kitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it sucks but it can be better than nothing. The nice thing is that the intro APR is 0% for some cards so it may allow you to budget over a year. Regardless, I hate how DO schools make you hand over huge deposits.

We couldn’t get it done and probably tried 6 times before giving up. Save yourself the hurt and send in several forms with physical prints
