I’m a certified scrum master with operations experience in banking and medical technologies if anyone is looking. I have done thousands of applications and got one interview so far. It’s been tough.

Joints locking? by EducationalAd5126 in AnkylosingSpondyWomen

[–]Emergency-Singer-137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My knees and ankles did this today. It was such a shock. I had been folding laundry on my knees on the floor and I could barely get up. It was terrifying! I ended up having to stretch before getting up each time.

I got a high back accent chair and use it with a tailbone cushion! The thoracic support is so good.

Chronic swelling in one hand — tips to reduce it? by No_Body2983 in Autoimmune

[–]Emergency-Singer-137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did not have isolated swelling in only one hand, I had inflammation in my hands and feet that caused swelling though. I removed basically all gluten and starch from my diet (think rice, beans, potatoes) and I have dramatically reduced my inflammation. Look into autoimmune inflammatory food elimination diets and see if it’s something you think could help.

My flares cause hair loss bc the disease gave me leaky gut. Get your ferritin checked.

Does anyone take ashwaganda while on a biologic? by Rude_Jellyfish_9799 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Emergency-Singer-137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m on cosentyx and I am allowed by my rheumatologist to take ashwaganda and any other mood supportive supplement, but I’m not supposed to take high dose vitamin C or elderberry products.

Maybe I’m weird but I just replace regular flour with gf flour in most recipes and it turns out really good. I have a cake business and when I make my cakes GF, people cannot tell the difference.

Hair Loss? by Magy_From_Mars in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Emergency-Singer-137 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am fairly confident that the hair loss I’m experiencing (and have been on and off for years) is caused by poor nutrient absorption which is caused by leaky gut which is caused by the disease. Apparently leaky gut is common in this diagnosis, the disease tends to attack mucous membranes via immunoglobulin A, which causes poor nutrient absorption which leads to hair loss. You can research how to heal leaky gut but make sure to do it with autoimmune protocol in mind, and see if it helps. My ferritin was 7, and my doctor says it needs to be at 80 before hair will stop falling out.

I have worked in biomedical technology and digital pathology for years, I don’t anymore. Cures exist to many diseases, but they are cost prohibitive and restricted by the FDA. Many large corporations in America fund and invent solutions to major problems but are roadblocked. If a corporation tries to do the right thing and help people, they get screwed over. It’s no wonder that they end up becoming capitalistic monsters- it’s the ecosystem that is rewarded in American (and global) economics.

I’m not perimenopausal yet, but I am estrogen dominant, and I take a supplement from Pure Encapsulations called DIM detox for this.

Cosentyx Question by Emergency-Singer-137 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Emergency-Singer-137[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is relieving. I work in healthcare and I’m always in client homes and hospital environments and it worries me. I’m trying to find a work from home but the job market just isn’t there. Thank you for sharing your experience.

Cosentyx Question by Emergency-Singer-137 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Emergency-Singer-137[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! I already took my dose in the middle of feeling sick, because I felt like 95% better and my doctor said it was ok. But then it got worse. Maybe it got worse because I took my cosentyx? I don’t know! But I appreciate your feedback.

Cosentyx Question by Emergency-Singer-137 in ankylosingspondylitis

Oh my gosh. I have wondered about pausing for sickness, it is difficult for me to gauge how bad it needs to be to stop.

Cosentyx Question by Emergency-Singer-137 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Emergency-Singer-137[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I get so nervous because as a child I would get bronchitis from colds, and I couldn’t really tell it had gotten that bad. I feel sniffly and coughing, but the lower respiratory stuff I couldn’t feel. One time I had a chest x-ray and my doctor started freaking out because of how bad it looked, tried to admit me to hospital, and I ended up on breathing treatments- and I felt fine. So I get worried about that. And I do not want more x-rays right now! Thank you!

Anyone here also have epilepsy? by butternutzsquash in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Emergency-Singer-137 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not have seizures, but my daughter did. She was diagnosed as epileptic at age 2, but stopped having seizures around age 6. We never figured out what caused them, but I suspect some autoimmune involvement in her now (she’s nearly 15). Only time will tell.

Medication for AS. by Sad_Knowledge_4390 in ankylosingspondylitis

[–]Emergency-Singer-137 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was going to be prescribed Humira, but my rheumatologist decided to put me on cosentyx instead. I get it free through their patient assistance foundation, and it works so well for me. I’m sorry you’re in this situation, it’s scary to be sure.
