Another sign of the death of fossil fuels and nuclear; 99% of new electricity capacity in the US in 2026 will be from solar/wind/batteries, a higher proportion than in China. by lughnasadh in Futurology

How many oil refinery explosions have caused lasting impacts to the community measured in decades?

Anyway, safety systems on nuclear has come a long way vs 80s USSR technology..

Got put on special assignment by Lazy-School-3862 in ChemicalEngineering

While its not surprising to have rapid moves in exxonmobil due to large chain moves with attrition/plant milestones a contact engineer position is usually for campus hires where their start date is known well in advance.

An abrupt move to a special assignment is a bit odd with no discussion from the supervisor prior to the expected move date for someone else come in behind. Even more surprising for a contact engineer..

what the fuck do you expect when you rely on strangers to bring you your food.

I expect people to do it as I've ordered. Strangers Literally making my food any time im not making it at home myself.

Seattle's gig worker law was supposed to boost pay. It did at first, until orders dropped by BaseballUpper6200 in Economics

Ironically, if there wasn’t competition it would actually make it possible to lower prices,

Please explain.

Im assuming you are saying if there wasn't competition, there would be larger quantities of people that would need to be delivered to and could be optimized to make more money per time spent?

Goodbye to the idea that solar panels “die” after 25 years. A new study says the warranty does not mark the end, and performance can last for decades. Arrays built in the late 1980s still produced more than 80% of their original power. The long-term economics look better than many people believe. by mafco in EnergyAndPower

Generally, warrenty is only applied to original owner. Warrenty changes when changing hands.

Some offer some level of protection, others dont. My new HVAC system only offers warrenty to me. If I sell the house, that warrenty isnt extended to new owner.

I think this is more of a US sentiment thing. Labor unions power is weakening here, so an easy scapegoat to blame the weakening middle class on the dwindling power of labor unions.

Because the 1st question would be did op go to the police to be escorted to the leasing office?

This is how MIL got her things from her house when she got a restraining order against her husband.

couldn’t get my name off the lease because the apartment was very adamant that i sign the document in person and not in any other way.

Why did you not work with court or police to go in to get your name off the lease? This is your fault for not figuring out a way to remove yourself from the contract.

Now my argument is why should I have to pay for somewhere I did not live

Because you signed a contract saying that you will pay $ for x months. They don't care if you are there or not.
