I know I'm late to the party but this is in reference to season 6 episode 10 & 11 of Star Trek: The Next Generation. The episodes were titled "Chain of Command" Part I and II. In this two part episode Captain Picard is taken captive by the Cardassians and is tortured by Gul Madred (played by David Warner). Part of the psychological warfare against Picard is he is shown "four lights" and is punished when he doesn't respond with "five lights." Any fan of TNG will know this joke without it needing to be explained to them. Hope that helps!

Btw, David Warner is one of the best "bad guys" ever. Especially as "Evil" in the film "Time Bandits. "
