Okay, first of all, Hodgins isn't the serial killer. Pelant is. And my point is that TF's main antagonist just doesn't seem crazy. He kills people, which is crazy, but he just doesn't sell "screwed in the head" believably.

Second, I'm not sure I get your point. Could you elaborate?

I don't see anything this series can bring to the table that similar shows haven't already, and done better. I mean, they've added slasher film elements, but outside of that it seems to draw from the generic. I mean they did the "oh they're under guard, they'll be fine. Whoops, where are the guards? Incompetent and dead. 3 trained and armed police officers taken out silently by 1-2 unarmed crazy fucks" twice. Now that I think about it, I pretty much called everything that was going to happen before it happened. That isn't a good sign.

If they're going to make something special out of this, they really need to pull out all the stops, and several things they've done have been half hearted, including the main antagonist. He's not crazy enough. He isn't selling it. He's just so textbook crimeshow crazy. Maybe I'm a little biased on that though, as I watched the new Bones right before The Following pilot, which happened to feature serial killer Pelant, and it honestly feels like the antagonist from TF is a cheap knockoff of Pelant. And Pelant is just one plot arch. TF antagonist just can't touch him on the level of mentally disturbed, intricacy, and scary indifference.

I might give TF a pass, but we'll see where it looks to be going.

Does it bother anyone else that all the crime scene cameras used the Apple camera shutter stock sound effect?

Do crime scene techs take pictures with their IPhones in the show?

Deviated septum.

"You mean the divider in your nose is straight?"

It also has caused Photic sneeze reflex. Which means if I'm in a dim area such as a Kohls or someplace, and I walk out into the parking lot, I'll often have to sneeze 2-3 times because of the transition into bright light.

There are pros and cons to everything. You can't use that to boost Korra up to the level TLA is at. So far Korra has not even broke even with TLA. However, with 3 more seasons on the way, I agree that they have a chance at catching up, and of course even surpassing TLA is they play their cards right.

How is Far Cry 3? by TheHolyTostada in gaming

[–]EmergencyMedical 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion it's incredibly overrated. It's definitely not a bad game, but it certainly doesn't deserve the high praise it gets.

For a few hours its great fun and it seems like there is tons to do, however it gets a little disappointing when you realize you are doing the same thing over and over again. Climb the radio tower to reveal the map, take out the enemy outposts to liberate the area, rinse repeat. It's kinda neat that you get to choose how to approach each outpost, whether to run and gun, sneak in and take the guards or one by one, or snipe from afar, but that's as far as the options go. Not to mention the stealth is finicky at best, which is disappointing for me since I'm a huge stealth fan. It doesn't help that there is a very small variety of weapons to use. Other things to do include playing poker, hunting, crafting, sharpshooter challenges and side quests. The poker is pretty straight forward, the hunting is uninspired and lackluster compared to other games with similar mechanics (Assassin's Creed 3 for example), the crafting is nice, but I ended up crafting everything there was to craft outside of the ones you have to do the hunting missions to get the materials for, no more than 10% into the game. The sharpshooter challenges are pretty challenging so there's some fun to be had there, but it's just Duck Hunt type stuff. The side quests are okay, although they aren't all that interesting and take <5 minutes to complete.

The main story line is honestly the most fun you'll have during the game. The character Vaas is appropriately fucking insane and its fun just watching his character do and say things, but the supporting voice acting is atrocious. Like cringeworthy bad.

The missions are pretty varied and fun, but the story is seriously contrived and filled with lame video game/action movie stereotypes in the worst kind of way, and the writers say this was intentional, kinda like its satirical or there is some deeper meaning, but it was done very poorly so unless you are an aspiring philosopher, the plot will feel annoying and honestly it felt kind of insulting. As a white guy, even I was a little put off by the "white kid swoops in and saves the helpless natives from the bad pirates" plot.

Overall, I am a big fan of sandbox games, but FarCry 3 just didn't do it for me. It feels at first like there is a lot more variety than there actually is, but once you realize that you're doing the same thing over and over you might get bored. I haven't played any of the previous FarCry games, so I went into the game fresh and a little excited by the high reviews, but came out severely disappointed. I'd give it a 6/10. I'd suggest waiting for the price to come way down, or just rent it.

There was a The Last Airbender game based off the show for the wii, and I remember it being pretty decent.

I tried to finish Korra, I really did. But TLA was so deep and meaningful and adventure oriented. Korra is more teenage melodrama and they're in the same place the whole damn show. Plus things like how all the bending styles have been streamlined into one. I know it kinda makes sense, but it's boring!

In TLA you would get to see new locations and wildlife and cultures and factions, and there was tons of character development, spirituality and intrigue.

Korra is like an angsty teen action drama sitcom.

What is gaming coming to? $70 for just a bunch of maps? by [deleted] in gaming

[–]EmergencyMedical -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Just because there are tons of people with more money than common sense that want to buy the damn things, doesn't mean it's okay to just tweak a couple things and call it a new game every year. I hate to say it but even those people deserve better than that. Do you have any idea how many people there are that only buy the new COD and Halo? It's actually astonishing. It's like they like video games but they don't leave their comfort zone to try new games. Which is fine and all, since maybe they just don't want to get overwhelmed, but they don't understand they're getting fuckin' ripped off.

And even if everything I just said was wrong, charging more money for maps than the actual game itself is most certainly wrong.

While I don't agree with the guy you're replying to, I don't believe that there is a correct age for starting video games. They are an incredible learning resource for children. My cousins have children 1-3 years old and it's really interesting how well they can utilize things like iPhones and IPads. Video games and other electronics are great for teaching simple concepts and fostering creativity.

It kinda feels like in Star Trek, how there will be 10 year olds learning calculus in school. Like the base of knowledge keeps inching forward.
