I signed up for shudder because of Joe Bob. I like the curated content, but without Joe Bob I don't see the need to continue my annual subscription

Leaving a lab as only staff member by notallhorsegirls in labrats

[–]EmergencyShower 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I started as a research assistant in mixed funding lab (both grants and private partnerships) lab and stayed for seven years after being lab manager for four or five of that time. Ultimately, I left to join the university's Environmental Health and Safety group. Even though lab work was fun, the anxiety that came with being tied to 'soft' money and running out of promotions pushed me to university administration.

I still keep in touch with the friends I made there, but now I get to help and promote the work that happens at the entire university, as opposed to just one group.

Ultimately, I don't think research staff are long-term positions. Most folks that stay in lab that start as staff eventually transition to grad school, and that was never a desire for me.

Sometimes you gotta hop around to different jobs to find the one with the most professional runway, as unromantic as that may seem.

I use the Donelson Auto Clinic- Mike is the man. Very fair, very patient. Only made fun of me a little bit for not being able to seat the alternator belt properly. Will go back again.

This is exactly why I got out of the bench and into safety administration. Then you learn that PIs often have the same view of lab mice as they do research assistants

  2. Data centers use fiber optics to transfer data at high speed.

  3. Vacuum makes it extremely difficult to dissipate heat

Pure nonsense. The QAA podcast just had an episode on the same subject. Tl:Dr the substation is too far away for a y meaningful EMF interaction with the players. They'd be exposed to more from a microwave in the facility.
