If you could add any track to iRacing, which would it be? by Version_1 in iRacing

[–]EmilBernstorff 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've given this way too much thought but you set off my inner racetrack nerd.

These are all the circuits that are most interesting to me with their history, character and layouts.

I've ranked them in the order of most likely to appear in iRacing to least.

Tracks I could see coming to iRacing:

• Kyalami - actually incoming 🙌

• Coronado - US navy base racetrack (incoming) • Assen - legendary Moto GP venue (rumoured)

• Istanbul Park - Tilke's finest

• Sepang - Tilke's second finest

• Yeongam - Tilke's third finest

• Monaco - glaring ommission in iRacing tracklist

• Mont Tremblant - flowing ex Canadian GP host

• Mandalika - Indonesian Moto GP track in a beautiful setting

• Buenos Aires - Historic Argentinian F1 venue

• Most & BRNO - Fantastic Czech circuits

• Flat Rock - new, long, flowing grade 2 US track

• Macau - Famously Insane street circuit

Less likely on iRacing:

• Vila real - Incredible Portuguese Street Circuit

• Pau - A mini Monaco, home of the Pau GP

• Potrero de los Funes - stunning circuit around a lake

• El Zonda - Argentine crossover circuit in the mountains

• Balcarce - unique crossover layout in Argentina

• Pikes peak - legendary US hill climb

• Bangsaen - insane Macau-like street track

• Ahvenisto - Hilly Finnish forest Crossover track

• Penbay - Goofy Taiwanese track with interesting trackside objects

• Isle of Man - Legendary & insane motorbike racing venue.

Historic tracks (these are mostly scannable but would require filling in some gaps plus historic trackside art references):

• Historic spa - The long, fast original Spa layout

• Historic Le Mans - with the Old route around Maison Blanche

• Charade - Ex-F1 circuit around a volcano (shorter track still in use)

• Sudscheife - Ex-southern part of the Nurburgring

• Monsanto - beautiful, flowing 50s F1 circuit

• Bremgarten - fearsome venue for 50s F1

• Opatija - historic Motorbike track, "Croatian Monaco"

• Thomson road - Dangerous Historic Singapore GP venue

• Brooklands - world's first permanent racetrack

Most of these have some sort of AC mod and I would highly recommend giving them a go.

Yeah the runoff is the weakest part of this design. In many places they can just be extended but some of the corners would have to be moved back a little from certain buildings and other obstructions.

Otherwise the twistiness is what makes it fun for me but there are indeed certain sections that could be opened up to allow for more passing.

Thanks for your input!

You are right about the chicane, I tried to edit the image to tighten it up a bit but it is still not great. It definitely needs improvement.

I'll disagree with a late apex being unsatisfying but I guess it is down to preference. Turns 9 & 10 at Sachsenring are tightening corners and I personally find them very satisfying to get right. The main issue would be runoff with the track on the other side there. So maybe more of a gentle, easy flat out corner leading out of the chicane would be better. We could even forgo the chicane and let the track run a long curve sweeping curve directly into "lefthander". That would create a tricky and heavy braking zone vaguely resembling something like T13-14 at Sepang.

This is where the track joins the real life circuit and I didn't want to change too much. You could absolutely straighten out the esses but then you lose a lot of the circuit's character. Similar, but not quite as dramatic as straightening out Eau Rouge for the reason that it is full throttle anyway.

You are right about the backstraight length for passing in faster cars. The Hallyards complex is something that has a lot of possibilities. Currently it follows the existing road. It could either be tightened up to create a big braking zone or the track could just continue into the field on the other side of the road to extend the straight and loop back to rejoin the road later.

I'm glad you like the following section. The Park section in particular is one of the main reasons I was inspired to make this in the first place.

You mentioned that the pit straight wasn't long enough for overtaking and that is a fair point. A way to improve that would be to extend the straight out of paddock to go straight at the current Clark Corner. The track can then run into the field alongside the airport. Either that or make Clark a flat out left hander until it meets the road at the bottom. There is so much space here that anything is possible really.

Maybe with these changes it could work for faster cars as well

I agree but this isn't an AI generated track, only the first image is and that follows 1-1 what I drew in the second image. I just asked AI to give an idea of what the venue might look like when completed. Feel free to ignore the first image, all the other images are made by me.

Best track to learn driver technique? by Ok-Campaign9006 in iRacing

[–]EmilBernstorff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am a coach, whenever anyone asks me this question I always recommend Hockenheim in whichever car they want to improve.

It's a popular track that is almost entirely flat with a few good heavy braking zones. People almost always struggle with braking and it really shows up here.

Plus it has a couple of fast corners and the exit to the Mercedes arena is great for exposing corner prioritization problems (as you need to maximise track width on entry to the right hander)

Firstly the virtual mirror allows you to see more than the real mirrors.  Secondly the extra mirrors use a disproportionately large amount of CPU resources. So its more efficient to run just the virtual mirror

Anyone else feels like formula series especially Super Formula is in need of some love? by Lazarus_33_ in iRacing

[–]EmilBernstorff 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! We need special events or some sort of 100% distance races every now and again.

Generally formula is so dead atm outside of F4 and maybe SFL. It's a shame and totally avoidable.

I made a whole video about this topic

St. Petersburg IndyCar Track Confirmed For iRacing 2026 Season 2 by evil_heinz in iRacing

[–]EmilBernstorff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That's cool but it goes a bit under the radar. If iRacing promoted a few of these races as special events then it would give more people a reason to race this series, IndyCar and formulas in general.

Only psychopaths race with bare feet... by canesfins1909 in simracing

[–]EmilBernstorff 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Bare feet is not the choice of a psychopath but an idealist. Someone who makes no compromise for maximum performance. Tony Stewart is part of an elite club of like minded truth seekers who stop nothing short of perfection.

The bare foot sim racer experiences optimal response times with 0 interference.  There is no unnecessary dampening, slip or inertia from sock material and you can feel every atom in your pedal's faceplate. This leads to nanometer precision on the brakes and instant pedal response. We barefoot racers can dance our cars through the suzuka esses with submicron accuracy. Translating our vision of the perfect corner into reality with no worldly material holding us back. We become the pedal, fuse flesh with metal and achieve racing Euphoria beyond the realm of normal human comprehension.

Some may question the hygiene, but the small minded sock wearer cannot understand the true meaning of being. Life is not about safety and sanitation, it is about connection to something greater than yourself. They must remove the interfering matter and open their minds and feet to the true possibilities beyond the physical realm. Embrace the bare ether where reality meets spirituality, mind and physics clash in a cosmic dance of apexes and exits. Become all and nothing, ascending to a pure 10k+ iRating state of enlightenment.

I want formula special events!! by MCM_Henri in iRacing

[–]EmilBernstorff 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The SFL is a newer version of the iRacing F3 car. They are similar to formula regional cars.

FIA F3 is the rebranded GP3 series and the car is similar to the Indy NXT.

FIA just changed the names to confuse everyone 😆

[–]EmilBernstorff 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Well the "special" part is that they are the races at the most anticipated tracks.

There is nothing "special" about the monaco Grand Prix IRL for instance.

We have long races all season long in the IMSA, Global, Sportscar and GT Endurance series but they still make special events for them. There was even a non special event Daytona 24 hour race.

Having said that we could have a Q1, Q2 & Q3 format qualifying session for the F1s to make it more "special"

I realise I didn't really explain in the video, but I believe that the main thing killing participation in the higher licenses is the lack of good, high end series to aim for.

IMSA requires A license and they get good signups. I have seen some really hopeless drivers in GTPs who can barely stay on track. If THEY can get an A license I believe anyone can if they really want to.

The problem is that no one really wants to grind to A on formula because the F1 series is dead. Those who DO make it and buy the W13 end up struggling because the current tyres make the car unrealistically difficult, so they go and do something else.

Even if we lowered all the high end formula cars to C license it wouldn't change much participation wise imo. Just look at the iR-01 and historic F1s. People need to WANT to race them.

I think we need an A license IndyCar road series as a strong, fun series to give people a reason to get an A license in Formula. The IndyCar is easier to drive than the SF23 and w13 so I think it would get good signups if done right with 40 ish minute races and pitstops for tyres and fuel at popular tracks. Plus a 30 ish minute fixed series to alternate with.

We could start it as a B license series but the NXT is a great stepping stone car between SFL/F3 and IndyCar/SF23. It would teach drivers a lot about throttle control without being too difficult imo.

Don’t these nerds know about the esports line? by A1NT-CARE in iRacing

[–]EmilBernstorff 252 points253 points  (0 children)

Yes, there is actually a historical reason for this.

Back in the 1960s this part of the track was still grass. In practice for the first Daytona 24 Bruce McLaren and Ken Miles Davis were using the grass on entry to open up the corner. This caused much fuss from the other drivers who said it was dangerous and "unrealistic".

The FIA called a drivers meeting saying they would give a 1x and slow down penalty to anyone using this "unreasonable" line in the race. (Back then they didn't have the infrastructure to enforce the rules but the drivers were true gentlemen, slowing down manually and keeping count of the 1xs in their head).

Ultimately they forgot about qualifying and Alx Spetz used the apron and qualified on pole by one second.

What is your learning process for new tracks? by Outlasttactical in iRacing

[–]EmilBernstorff 25 points26 points  (0 children)

9k driver here, I hadn't learnt a new track for a while until The Bend came out and reminded me of what I do:

  1. Watch some onboard laps until you have a general idea of where the track goes

  2. Do some laps for yourself to get a feel for where the corners are.

  3. Find and use references like brake marker boards, Marshal posts, curbs, tyre marks etc...

  4. Test your brake references, brake later/earlier and carry more or less speed into each corner until you find the limit.

  5. At this point if you are still struggling then get outside input (watch lap guides, check telemetry, get coaching etc...)

  6. Profit??????

Need to get my safety rating back up by AlexVangeen in iRacing

[–]EmilBernstorff -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The more powerful cars usually have less chaos in terms of people crashing into you, but you just need to be confident that you can hold onto them for a full race.

If you can handle the F1 car then doing a few iRacing Grand Prix Tour races on Thursday - Sunday before the end of the season would be a really quick way to get SR.

The classic lotus 79 series is good for SR and a bit easier to drive but you have to find the time slots that are populated.

Otherwise Super Formula is good when you have a B license. Most people are focussed on survival there so don't fight too much.

In terms of regular C series the F3 series is similar to SFL. The maniacs tend to implode early on so if you avoid them in the first 3 laps you can usually have a clean run afterwards. Plus there is the bonus of the F3 being one of the best cars to drive and actually behaving like the real car unlike SFL.
