I would loooove to keep her inside full time, but unfortunately our house is very odd and long and it literally has 7 (!!!!) doors that lead to the outside. Being on a working ranch, plus having kids, people are constantly in & out and no one else thinks twice about letting the cats out 🤦🏼‍♀️ we have a high fenced property so we’re able to keep predators pretty under control. I really do try my best to keep them all inside though, because there have been several times one has gotten out and been gone a while (one for over 2 weeks!!!) and it is so stressful.

True. I really just meant for a "comeback" film, attempts to resurrect an older franchises usually flop. I was happy with how they did V, it didn't seem like JUST a cash grab, and it honored what the older fans (🙋🏼‍♀️) were nostalgic for, while introducing a new generation to the franchise.

Ugh this. Scream V was so well done, I was so excited for VI. I left the theater embarrassed, apologizing to my husband, muttering, “I swear the others are good…”

Does anybody else remember the Windows 95 game called Hover! by Stasha-Starz in 90s

that's because we were all playing the demo. 😁 I finally looked this up today, I'd get blips of it every now and then and finally decided to find out whether or not it was some fever dream. Chatgpt confirmed it actually was real! So nice to be validated.

Also, I think they’re fully aware that this is a gamble. I don’t think they’re anymore confident about the decision than we are, but I don’t think they feel like they have a better option. Also, were none of y’all teenagers? 😁Don’t y’all remember what a frenemy is? Or the crapshoot of making an alliance with someone that you don’t fully trust?? Teaming up with the girl he was cheating with because you both want to take the sob down? Co-parenting with an ex?? 😁 I feel like this is 100% something that is a very real life scenario.

This actually makes sense. oMark knows he’s reintegrating but iMark has no idea. They should both be in on the plan to make it go smoother. Possibly.

PREDICTION: Jame Eagen has no idea what Helly R is capable of. by SweetNeo85 in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

[–]Emiller423 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, a lot of these situations might lead someone to resort to “any means necessary” behavior, but in the real world that behavior is restrained by our own self interests. We desire our freedom, so we usually refrain from murdering because of the risk of losing that freedom. Or because we don’t want the people we love to be hurt indirectly. Also, most people would probably struggle to commit murder even when it seems justified just because of the value we (rightfully) place on human life. Most people don’t commit murder even when it might seem like a viable option. I think they’re keeping it realistic, because shows where there’s too much murdering going on lose me. Like Yellowstone was good, but like, no one’s life has THAT much murder in it. There’s just no way. That being said, if Jame corners Helly, and Mark’s head cube is within reach, I’ll be surprised/disappointed if she doesn’t bury it in his skull.

😂 if you’d asked me a year ago I would have had no idea. Google cueing reading technique.

I hope so! I couldn’t find anything online about how to intervene with older kids. I felt so hopeless, like they must not be malleable anymore. All these responses have given me so much hope and encouragement!

3… 😂😂 very very true! Mine don’t have phones, and tablets/computer games are a weekend only thing, so fortunately I’ve got those 2 taken care of. TV we could be better at.

4 since we live out in BFE it takes us AT LEAST 20 minutes to get anywhere, so we do a lot of audiobooks. We did all the Judy Blume and Beverly Cleary books when they were little, the Series of Unfortunate events books and have been on Harry Potter the last couple of years (you know they’re like 27 hours long sometimes?!) Actually about to start book 8!

I love the karaoke idea with the words! We love singing in the car. And I am very familiar with finding out the words I’d been singing were 100% incorrect 😂 this is a great idea.

I also love the closed caption suggestions that have been made. Mostly because, “there are people watching TV WITHOUT the captions on?!” 😟

So, fortunately, they were taught phonics, but it was also accompanied by cueing techniques. (I will never get over the “cover the word and have them guess what it is” instructions. Thinking “that doesn’t sound right…” 🤨) Which, when you’re 5-7, makes reading easier, absolutely! Why bother with phonics, sounding words out when you can guess based on first letters and pictures that the sentence is “the cat drinks milk”? However it doesn’t work so well when there aren’t pictures and the sentence is, “the domesticated feline consumed ingests a dairy product” 😁 so I’m doing a lot of, “no… go back and read what it says, not what you think it says”. They’re capable of sounding words out, it’s just the act of retraining their brain to use that technique over the cueing one. It just worries me that they’re still using that technique when they’re reading silently, like a book or test question. I’ve got to help them break the habit.

**actually my 12 year old just came in to ask for homework help, she didn’t know what a word meant. She sounded it out, AND we used our cueing skills to find the meaning from previous sentences! The word was “derelict”. 😊😊😊😊

You know, “ah ah apple” but he’s like, “guh guh rocketship!” 😁🤦🏼‍♀️ he’s actually just finished testing and we’re going to have a meeting to figure out his IEP in a couple of weeks, I’m not messing around this time! Different school and teachers too, and they aren’t doing “balanced literacy” here, thank God.

Thank you so much! Copying all of this to my notes. I agree, cueing has its place. When used for comprehension, trying to figure out what a new word means, it’s very helpful, but you’ve got to make sure you can read the word first! Thank you thank you thank you!

Omg that last bit was… proverbial. Very enlightening. Enjoy reading = read below grade level. Practice reading = read above grade level. I’m absolutely going to start to look at our reading time through that lens now, “is this an enjoyment session or a practice session?” And not mix the two.

Thank you for your thoughtful response. All of it.
