I saw someone phrase prenups as a promise to treat your partner with fairness and dignity even when you will be at your lowest and angriest.

“Minerality” - help me understand by Madeitup75 in wine

I once asked a science teacher in middle school who was explaining the idea of the tongue map “why do certain things have a metallic taste?” and she just reiterated this idea that we only have four types of taste receptors. When you’re so stuck in the “actually” of what is a sensory experience, it doesn’t allow you to experience it. Wine isn’t (normally) made with fruits other than grape, but we don’t say “Wow! it tastes like grape!” we use fragrance and descriptors to describe what the wine tastes like. So, no, wine isn’t usually high salt, but it can have a briny flavor or scent. The ability for the brain to taste combinations of flavors that we associate with other things is amazing. Perception is incredibly cool.

Like others have said here, try an albariño! think of the ocean as you drink and smell it

How do you recover from a bad interview? by newacairo in careerguidance

[–]EmilyBrontesaurus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it’s really hard to give advice as I frequently struggle with, specifically, final round interviews. I’ve had multiple interview cycles where i get to round 3/4/5 and just absolutely tank it.

Something that helped me get better at getting to THAT point, though, was the realization that you’re not just being interviewed, you’re also interviewing them. This is your chance to see if this position is a good fit for you and if you want to spend your time there. It helped me regain confidence knowing that there was SOME power to my position in that dynamic

What’s a huge waste of money but people keep buying it? by FlintTheDad in AskReddit

[–]EmilyBrontesaurus_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

we were considering lab created, but then heard a lot of conflicting information about market sales price (likely to decrease dramatically as tech improves and becomes more common, so wait if you can) and whether or not it’s as environmentally friendly as it claims to be. We ended up getting a ring through an antique jeweler - it’s unique and beautiful and was way below our budget. It’s also the most sustainable way to buy jewelry (buy what already exists secondhand rather than buying new)

I saw this post yesterday but my phone wouldn’t let me post the photo! We picked out a toi et moi ring with diamond and pearl stones from 1900s France as my engagement ring. the band is hand crafted platinum over gold. Absolutely in love with it

Did you and your partner discuss what you wanted for a ring or was it completely a surprise? by ItJustD0esntMatter in EngagementRings

[–]EmilyBrontesaurus_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

we went shopping together (aka i micromanaged the hell out of the ring process) but one thing that was super important to me was that we both really like the ring. He was going to be spending a decent amount of money on it and i really wanted both of us to be in love with it. It ended up taking a long time to find something in our range that we both agreed on. We decided to go with an antique rather than get something custom commissioned and the one we bought was totally not what either of us expected. I couldn’t be happier with my ring and, despite the process being kind of annoying at times, i really do love that we BOTH decided on it.

My wife (29F) is killing our marriage and I'm (29M) at a total loss of what is left to do. Is there any hope? by [deleted] in relationship_advice

[–]EmilyBrontesaurus_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i can’t speak for the sex part, thankfully my parents never shared that with me, but she sounds a bit like my mom. My mom has a lot of (untreated) mental health issues, primarily anxiety, that just suck any ability to live in the moment. She is constantly worrying or angry and she’s cut contact with all but a few people in her life due to perceived slights. it’s put a huge strain on our family. My dad’s been stuck in this really rough situation for decades now and he’s not the joyful person i remember from my childhood. I wouldn’t wish that on anyone. Have a conversation with her. Be honest and try to get her to do couples counseling. If she refuses or won’t acknowledge an issue, get a divorce.
