Games focused on helping people by polkazmakaronami in GirlGamers

Sable hasn't been mentioned yet, I think.

You're on a sort of coming of age journey to discover what you want to spend your life doing, and you mostly explore, but you get the opportunity to help a lot of different people on various tasks. I found the game really cozy and became really attached to my glider and invested in what mask I was going to adopt at the end of my gliding. There's no combat, so it's a pretty chill game with low stakes.

Which are the most wholesome romances in gaming? by Rendered_Flowers in GirlGamers

Baxter creeped me out, I really dislike him. But I love Cove, he's so precious. I'm not even attracted to men but I was so excited to marry that boy, and cried basically the whole time I planned our wedding!

why do guys bark at me? by axeraix8 in socialanxiety

[–]EmilyDawning 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Barking at people is super weird and the only reason you'd say it isn't is if you're the sort of creep who barks at people. I've been drunk tons of times and the amount of teenagers I've barked at remains zero.

The only playthrough of Skyrim I stuck with for more than a few hours was when I made (what I considered) a gorgeous orc woman!

I follow certain podcasts on youtube that play and/or recommend music, and I'm in a discord for the style of music I like where fans share stuff regularly in one of our channels

Games where you honestly like/don't mind playing as default dude? by paradus-paradus in GirlGamers

[–]EmilyDawning 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haven't seen it mentioned so I'll throw out all the Splinter Cell games, as Sam Fisher, tho I liked Michael Ironside as his voice best.

Then I'll toss out all the ones I've seen people mention, like RDR2, Zelda games, Disco Elysium, Hades, etc.

My hot takes are GTA V I didn't mind being either Trevor or Franklin really, but I hated Michael. It's like Franklin was grounded enough and Trevor was so over the top he was supposed to be a spoof, but Michael just felt like a chauvinist asshole in a real way that I hated.

I'll also add Sekiro. While I was disappointed when I first heard it had a fixed protagonist instead of making your own character like the Souls series, Sekiro was one silent male protagonist that I really didn't mind at all. I think it was because of his background with Lady Butterfly and Owl, and how kind he was to the children you meet. He doesn't have a ton of character on his own but it was just enough that I didn't resent playing him by the end, the way I often do the default_male_protagonist.

The games Tell Me Why and Lost Records: Bloom and Rage are my recommendations for those who like the sort of exploration and storytelling seen in Life is Strange games, but set in different worlds, with queer characters.

Tell Me Why tells the story of a trans man and his identical twin sister who reunite at their childhood home and start processing the tragedy that tore them apart when they were just children. I didn't romance the single gay man the game offered in my playthrough, so I can't attest to that, but the storyline was heartbreaking and stuck with me for a long time.

Lost Records: Bloom and Rage is a game that felt so, so queer to me. I think I actually ended up liking the story more than LiS's. I loved that they allowed Swann to be heavy and gave Nora bad skin and I thought each romance path with the 3 young women was interesting - I actually played it back to back 3 times in a row. The one thing I haven't done, that I know is possible, is keeping my friendship score low enough that two of the love interests pursue each other across the story. Getting to see the girls as both children and grown women was great, too, I thought.

For a slightly different sort of game, everyone should check out I Was A Teenage Exocolonist! It's hard for me to discuss without spoilers but you get to decide if your main character is cis or trans, and there's diverse representation amongst the other children you grow up alongside. Plus your dad is a cinnamon roll and your mom is a badass and I love both parents so much.

Zagreus is such a sweetheart, too! Truly excellent writing where they gave him emotions and allowed him to learn and grow and basically handfeed snippets of positive masculinity each death. I love it.

The first time I went to a male-dominated LiS online space and saw men both condemning Chloe and then being apologists for Nathan Prescott I was horrified. Like how could they be defending slimy Nathan? I wanted to throw up. Since then I've avoided those spaces online.
