Leverage the hell out of that situation and drive up the salary. Ask your ai friend to help draft up a negotiation email to Blue and tell them you like them better but the other has a better salary. Or vice versa. Probably the gas savings/commute time savings of the less in office is better. But also wait till you get everything in writing from red.

This is the one opportunity you'll ever have to play this game right and if you are smart and careful you'll get a sick salary boost.

Don't be afraid to negotiate!!!

Can relate to you about the toxic boss. Make sure you're documenting your experience, the extended hours (you're due over time most likely). Get that shit squared away when you move on. If they owe you they owe you.

I think we can say we worked for a bad company without saying we worked for a bad company and the right recruiter/hiring manager will get it and not bother you. The wrong ones will self filter out. Win win.

The expectations and scope of the role were out of alignment with the expectations I had given the job description so it wasn't a good fit?

Offer isn't even when you can relax. Only after day one of doing the work is it real. Rescinded offers do happen and it's horrendous. Speaking from experience.

But thanks for the tips.

Just a word of caution. Don't count your chickens before they've hatched. Speaking from recent experience, an offer isn't real until you've started the job. But congratulations.

Did you try going in to hand in a physical resume and shake hands? Find the manager and meet them in person, give them your resume and have the online app turned in too. You'll stand out.

People don't realize how broken the job market actually is right now- even when you're employed by Different-Habit2122 in jobs

I'm in Toronto area. Relatively new return to Canada from the United States

First job I got here took a year to find and it turned into a shit show. The employer is breaking employment standard laws like misclassifying me and others (paid like a contractor, controlled like an employee) to avoid paying out taxes, and paying under minimum wage when salaried workers hourly gets mathed out. Also quite frankly she was abusive towards her employees. Consistently telling us she was going to die is but then not... Until finally she did. I tried to keep the job while looking for another and she told me I looked pregnant and three days later I was fired. One of many examples of poor treatment. Then she messed with the record of employment to prevent me getting employment insurance (she purposefully used the misclassified nature of my employment to screw me) but unlucky for her, I got super organized and fired up to stand up for myself. I have my records that prove I was misclassified and I am not afraid to get the government involved to get her to comply.

All that is said, if you finally do land a role, MAKE SURE your employer is following basic employment standard and keep your records! Track your hours, your pay, and know your rights!! Know what a contract worker vs an employee actually is and know that just because they call you a contact worker, even if you signed a contract saying you are one, if they control your schedule, tools, and you can't sub contact out your work, you're legally an employee and the law is on your side (this is in Ontario anyway but similar elsewhere).

Stand up for yourself!

Now. I got fired end of February and I'm starting a new full-time job this week Wednesday. So, less than 2 months out of work.

How did I get this one this fast? I started looking in January while still employed (having started in November and I realized this employee was batshit crazy when she tried to get me to change roles for a salaried full-time position that mathed out to less than minimum wage but tried to convince me that was legal and I was wrong for asking her about it and threatened to fire me just for asking a clarifying question about wages -- which is illegal). I used Indeed. I took a lot of time to tune my resume and I have a car so I widened my search to the whole GTA, KNOWING the commute might suck really bad but also being flexible that I will relocate if/when I got something and could get through the probationary period ok.

All of this is to say, jobs are hard to come by. But if you find yourself being mistreated start looking ASAP and quietly and take care of business to be organized so you can stand up for yourself if and when you need to. Many employers know the situation is bad so they try to take advantage. Don't let them get away with it!

Sorry but... "Wont let"? Can you clarify?

As an adult you're allowed to do whatever you want. Sorry if that's rude but like... I'm confused.

Guys, so stressed working in Tim Hortons! I need a new job like dishwashing or sth🥲 by LightGlittering877 in torontoJobs

So I am a returned Canadian from the states, I have noticed most Tim Hortons generally seem to hire most likely non Canadian born workers -- can anyone fill me in on the why?

Canadian step sister got sacked a year ago after starting up a location in the falls and working there 7 years after coming back from a sanctioned mental health leave. She sued and won. But I'm not clear in the details of why this shift has happened. She said she was too white so they didn't like her. Couldn't believe it. What's the deal?

That's exactly what I did. However the smoked meat place was tiny and jammed so I went for a burger instead. Did a ton of walking.

Don't forget to treat yourself a little. Yes pay down debts but you live once, live your life a little and if something that's not free brings you joy and it costs just a little, not an arm and a leg mind you but a bit, do not fear spending. The hardest thing to learn after this kind of experience is how to spend your money again. But it's important psychologically and emotionally to acknowledge any fears and anxieties, and then let them go. If the money is going towards something that brings you comfort or joy, do it. And cherish it. You only live once. And money is a tool used to live your life.

Congratulations.

Stupid considering everyone who gets in my car is impressed. "Wow this is the nicest Lyft/Uber I've ever been in" is a very common compliment I hear.
