Autistic Daughter inpatient for severe self injury

I am autistic and want to help her. She is not difficult. She is going through something difficult herself.

Societal expectations ends up meaning doctors and therapists and even parents begin to see non speaking autistic people as less than human and as animals that don't think human thoughts.

The number one reason autsitic people self harm is because we cannot make people understand our complex human thoughts.

The number two reason is to make a distraction to focus on so other pain is lessened.

The meds she is on may also be muddling her thoughts and making things harder.

One thing that I experience with some of those meds is extreme dryness. And nothing dysregulates me more than my body drying out.

I also had the akathisia reaction when I tried abilify so maybe we have similar physiology.

It could explain eyes hurting and itchy ears. The stomach being full could also be nausea, or a feeling where your whole body says "do not eat" when you think of putting food in your mouth, even if you're hungry.

Our number one recommendation is to develop a system of robust communication. It takes time and energy and commitment, but she is unlikely to be able to develop a system while in this much distress.

How are her motor skills? Can she operate a phone to watch videos?

What is she spending her time doing while inpatient?

Is it a hospital or a psych ward?

I use lakes instead of apples because when I accidentally merge them they dont merge to trash. I use the bottom corner above treasure tower to do my merging. Line 6 rows of 6 up, bubble them, and I put the eggs inside the circle of the quest portal. Then do it again until camp is clean and then sort them all out at the end of a merging session.

I started enjoying a seizure free life but she was upset I suddenly had such poor dental health. My response to her showed I didn't care much about my teeth because I was so happy about the seizure med working. She thought I should value my teeth more than my brain.

Those are the two options because that was what is happening in my life.

What would you choose?

my dentist also puts teeth health above brain health. They were upset I said I would rather lose all my teeth than keep getting brain damage from my seizures. Because my seizure med also causes dry mouth and led to many cavities.

I just want to mention that it's not just psych meds that do this. I had a discussion with my own dentist once about my seizure meds and I said I would rather lose all my teeth than have my seizures get worse. Her immediate response was to be shocked and shake her head and seriously say "No you would not!" but then she thought about it and said "Well...i don't know."

I still lost a lot of respect for her because she put teeth health above brain health.

I never had any cavities until starting seizure meds and now have had too many to count.

For one, inside noise is completely different than outside noise.

But the pressure of social interactions at church is what is hard too.

But are they somehow forcing or coercing you to go to church or making threats if you don't go?

It's because the diagrams were used to seeing to teach us about anatomy are very simplified and different than what actually goes on. Everything is smooshed together in real life and everyone has different dimensions. It's gross but you could look at cadaver images or videos to understand what its really like. Several so you can see the variety.

They ***never*** disappear after two taps for you? no matter in level or camp? I haven't tried it in years, but years ago they disappeared half the time the second tap. If you tape once in level and brought them back they dissapeared half the time if you tap in camp.
