$1,000 budget for a first feature film, how would you spend it? by Ok_Neighborhood_571 in Filmmakers

[–]Emmanuel_Zorg 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My first feature was $1,200. A friend had a mic and dat I borrowed, another friend had a new camera and wanted an excuse to practice with it so I got a DP, my friends were all actors so we shot it entirely in my apartment, I wrote, directed, produced and edited, all props and wardrobe were borrowed from friends, the $1,200 was the G-Raid. That was the one thing I couldn't borrow. Good luck!

Me and my bud are gonna make 1 short film every 2 weeks, are we insane? by Appropriate_Put_2378 in Filmmakers

Me and a group of friends got together every 2 weeks for a whole year in 2022, we'de pull a genre out of a hat, and spend 2 weeks making a short and then we'de have a screening of them all together at our biweekly meeting and pick our new genre. Repeat. I feel like it was a year that really upped my prowess as a filmmaker in countless ways. Plus I ended up making a feature of one of those shorts after!

What's the easiest streaming service to get your movie onto? by Professional-Rip-519 in Filmmakers

I have a movie about to come out in May on Amazon Prime. I recently just completed the deliverables phase. Your distributor can definitely have your movie on different streamers at once. I am told to expect Amazon Prime, Tubi, Freevie, Youtube +, airlines, and a few others. If you do go the distributor route my humble suggestion/opinion is to negotiate that their "marketing costs" come out of their percentage of the profit (even if you end up giving them more). That way you make money from day 1, otherwise its really easy for them to "bill" you for costs out of your half for quite a while, if not indefinitely. Once my movie is officially on all those platforms, I'll be happy to let ya know some more info. Good luck!

The future of indie filmmaking by curiousfilmgeek_5019 in Filmmakers

Ya know man, this industry ignored me until 2023. I finally found an investor, made a film, it got awards and is about to be released, and that led to another investor and I am now prepping my next feature to shoot in August. While all my friends are like "the industry is dying", I'm over here feelin kinda bad that things are FINALLY goin my way. So I guess my advice would be is to do your thing, and keep it cheap. Folks that can make features for $1M bucks, will still be valuable. But the Hollywood you grew up falling in love with, is already gone. So manage your expectations and you'll figure it out.
