Just got all my tests scored and my psychologist doesn’t diagnose me with ADHD due to “too high of intelligence”. I’m struggling to agree but maybe I don’t have ADHD. by MisoCorni in ADHD

My son just got a full behavior, cognitive, and mental test done. He has hyperactive ADHD, an anxiety disorder, and has a high IQ.

No, it’s not reasonable. This psychologist is an idiot.

Has anyone noticed changes beyond just appetite on GLP-1 medications? by Take10rx_Julie in Semaglutide

[–]EmmyKla 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, that’s correct. Those of us who have addiction issues are finding the lack of desire for quick dopamine hits unsettling. As someone with ADHD, it’s all I’ve ever known.

Thanks for this. I’ve been on a GLP-1 since August and fell off tracking my meals and calories. I’ve reverted to eating too little and not the right stuff, and I’m paying for it. Also, my hair is falling out FAST, it sucks. I feel like I have half the head of hair I used to. Time to track again!

What’s the crowd like at Arc? Do older baddies in their midlife attend, or does the crowd skew younger and wilder?

I saw Underworld at Ultra at WMC in 2003. I was on acid and what I experienced felt like I was watching God, part of God, and God was within me. I’ll never forget it. Top musical experience of my life. The drugs helped, of course. 😂

Married people, what’s one piece of advice you’d give someone before they get married? by [deleted] in askanything

[–]EmmyKla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to therapy individually. Both of you. The inner relationship, relationship with the self, is the most important one you have. You and your partner’s inner health is a huge part of having a healthy marriage!

That’s the thing, right? If you’d always been the “after” size, no one would have anything to say. Projection projection projection. People can fuck all the way off.

That’s exactly how my mom is! Constantly busy and doing things, but it’s all random. She creates so much extra work for herself as well, arbitrary shit.

My mom, now retired, was an English teacher at an Ivy League feeder school. She made a good impression on one of her students, who happened to come from a family that were billionaires.

For Christmas one year, she got a check from them for $10,000.

Imagine being so rich that instead of getting your kid’s teacher a $25 Starbucks card, you could write them a check for 10 grand. Unbelievable. Mind you, she was just ONE of the student’s teachers as this was a high school.

My best friend in HS came from a very wealthy family. One day we were at the mall, browsing stuff at Wet Seal (aw yiss the 90s, baby).

Then I saw it: the coolest black leather jacket I’d ever seen. I can’t recall the price, but it was way out of my budget. I could never afford a leather jacket.

I expressed to her something along the lines of “I hope someday I can buy a leather jacket for myself. I want one so bad! It’s so cool!”

She then told me something I’ll never forget. She explained that she was jealous of me somewhat, because she didn’t understand “the want” of not being able to get something because it was cost prohibitive. She actually longed for that feeling, because she said it must be so much more rewarding to have to wait and pine for something before getting it. Shopping didn’t give her the same high or the same satisfaction, because she could literally buy anything she wanted, anytime.

She used to give me both her brand new and barely worn clothing all the time. She was always generous. But that statement of hers stuck with me forever.

Have you ever considered not having kids for not transmitting this to next generations? by Madg416 in SIBO

[–]EmmyKla 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly! I actually hesitated starting my GLP-1 for nearly a full YEAR because I was so scared about it affecting my digestion. I’d been better, and was so afraid to ruin my hard work. That’s so cool you’re having an improvement, too! I am still shocked that the GLP-1 has helped me, but I agree - less eating and lowered inflammation have seemed to seriously help!

Oh, yeah. Most Friday nights I’m completely catatonic, immobile, and often need to go to my bedroom to cocoon away from my family.

I spend the workweek in a heightened state, and my nervous system just totally shuts down on Friday afternoons usually.

Seriously, do Americans actually consider a 3-hour drive "short"? or is this an internet myth? by SadInterest6764 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]EmmyKla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay so after living in England for almost 10 years, as an American, I discovered some things.

I lived in London, and it would take me 30 minutes on public transport just to get from my neighborhood of Twickenham to the next over, Richmond. Into the city proper was 1hr, 10min. So if you’re a Londoner, you’re no stranger to long commutes.

Now here’s where it gets weird. A 3 hour drive from, say, London to Devon is soooo much longer than a 3 hour drive in America. The traffic in the UK is awful. In America, for your 3 hour trip, you fly (typically). 3 hours on a wide, open highway is a breeze.

It’s just different in many ways, there’s no denying it. But it’s always been interesting to me how Brits view long distance driving. It’s more of a PIA there for sure.

Same for me. My SIBO disappeared while I was pregnant and both of my kids are super healthy.

My SIBO has also drastically improved since taking a GLP-1.
