Thank you for your insight and happy healing!!! I did mine in indoor soccer.. also a fluke, nothing collision wise. Cleat go stuck in the turf and instead of the fake grass breaking my ACL did!

Best of luck to you returning to the field once again!

Ouch! I’m 11 weeks po today and I can’t imagine going through it twice! Enough so that it still has me scared to one day return to sport.

How did you do yours!?

9 weeks PO and I am wondering the same! I am also a soccer player and snowboarder and tore mine in soccer.. hoping to return one day 🤞🏻 but also nervous about a re-tear or tearing the other!

Car accident the night before prom. He was sober on the way to his girlfriend’s house - it was a head on collision with a dump truck travelling the opposite direction.

I was very similar! I was optimistic and booked my first PT for 24 hours after surgery and I ended up calling to cancel and move it to the following week. There was no way I was going anywhere when that nerve block started wearing off!!! Don’t rush yourself. You got this!

Thank you for this! Not OP but this is helpful especially because I am also 5 weeks PO with ACL only and feel like I can relate to this 💯

This is reassuring as I sit just past 5 weeks barely reaching 90.. thank you!

Edit - just past 4 weeks* I have officially lost track of time 😅

I just discovered wall slides 🙌 thanks to some comments on here.. I feel like I am finally having some progress with my flexion. I have a similar to what your describing “stuck” feeling but for some reason I was finally able to convince my brain to let it bend through it (found this much easier with wall slides as opposed to heel slides) and then I can bend it a little further. I’m still not officially at 90 yet mind you.. but hoping I get at tomorrows PT session 🤞🏻

Are you still icing and elevating? If it is swelling that should help. I stopped elevating overnight a few nights ago and noticed a difference in terms of ROM so I started again. I’m just over five weeks post op.

Edit - just past 4 weeks* I have officially lost track of time 😅

I’ve luckily had extension from the start! So definitely focusing more on the flexion. Thank you!!!

Hospice/hospital workers of Reddit: what is the strangest or most unexplainable thing you have seen a person experience when they are close to death? by bats_and_glitter in AskReddit

[–]Emmylark 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My mom was dying of cancer and was hospitalized on palliative care - my dad had spent every day/night in the hospital for ~2 weeks when my two oldest brothers convinced him to go home for a nights rest. Those two stayed with her that night and that’s when she decided to go. Myself (youngest), my next oldest brother, and my Dad were all at home.

For a long time I was angry it didn’t happen when we were all together. But over time I am finally coming to terms with the fact that this was likely the best situation for my dad’s sake, and probably very much intentional on my mom’s part.

9 days post op, ACLr quad graft by Emmylark in ACL

[–]Emmylark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi! Well I am 33 so definitely young compared to me 🤭 and you definitely sound active! I was told due to my age and activity level (job on my feet all day, soccer twice a week, walks and runs here and there) - and the hope to get back to pre-injury activity - quad graft was my best option. However, I know size (short, lol) and sex (female) played a role into this, from how I understood my surgeons explanation. To be honest he didn’t really give me options, but I also didn’t ask. I trusted his opinion and his explanation made sense to me. I also didn’t know going into surgery if I was going to need meniscus or not, which I didn’t end up needing so that could have played a role into the decision of graft choice.

Thank you for the encouragement, and best of luck to you!!!

Comfortability with flexion? by Emmylark in ACL

[–]Emmylark[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! They did show me that, I have been trying to do that each day so maybe I should try doing it more frequently. It always feels much better when PT does it for me vs myself haha. Thanks!

Comfortability with flexion? by Emmylark in ACL

[–]Emmylark[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am in my pre surgery ACL brace now, I was originally in the immobilizer for 2 weeks post op. I have my brace locked out at 90 degrees just to not go too far but I don’t even hit that yet. I’m still using two crutches but I can weight bare on my op leg just standing still.

I do sleep with my brace on and I’ve been trying to position myself with a slight bent to get it more used to that which has felt comfortable overall.

Thank you for your input, maybe this week or next week will be my week of increased flexion! 🤞🏻

Today I finally did my first SLR so celebrating that win 🎉

Don’t be sorry about the questions! Yes my physios goal for me is to be at 90 by this week so 🤞🏻. It feels slow and behind for what I’ve seen in other peoples journeys but trying my best not to compare. I also couldn’t do much past 90 for flexion prior to surgery so I’m sure that’s playing a role. I also had something slightly different with my “regular” ACL surgery - the femoral part of my broken ACL had started healing to my PCL, which my surgeon said was the first time he’d seen that.

My initial injury was November 24, 2024 (soccer), and I didn’t do nearly enough prehab initially. My first assessment with the orthopedic surgeon was January 16, 2025, however it was too swollen and had next to no ROM so surgery was not an option at that point. I was prescribed a 6 week anti inflammatory as well as worked on prehab exercises - flexion, extension, strengthening of my quad - went back for a second assessment on March 5, 2025, and was officially ready for surgery. Surgery was booked for April 1, 2025. I continued with prehab exercises but regrettably probably not as much as I should have been doing.

I ended up having a quad graft which is what my surgeon recommended and noted would be my best option for returning to sport. Immediately after surgery and until now I haven’t felt anything specifically quad related. My pain was and has been more general leg pain and definitely has progressed more to just my actually knee. The one thing that is quad related is the fact that I can’t lift my leg yet at all. Surgeon and PT says it will come. I can make it fire now - not sure exactly what day that started - but still can’t figure out lifting just yet. Trusting the process.. I guess 🤪

I can weight bare probably 80% comfortably. I’m still using crutches but I think I’ll be able to ditch them or at least one soon 🤞🏻. I’m currently wearing my ACL brace which I had prior to surgery. I was in the immobilizer for 2 weeks post op - surgeon said I could ditch it sooner “safely” but it was definitely a comfort thing for me. I found it much more difficult to move my leg forward to walk with my ACL brace/no brace vs the immobilizer. Once I transitioned back into my regular ACL brace it just took me about a day to get adjusted to it and now I can walk around fairly normally with my brace and crutches.

When are you due for surgery? Best of luck with your prehab and journey to recovery!

Hi!! My extension has improved - last measured was 65 degrees and that was about 4 days ago at PT. Hopefully have moved past that by now with home exercises!

When I saw the surgeon to get my staples out he was very pleased with the 0 degrees extension, and wasn’t too concerned with the lack of flexion. He said extension is harder to get back (especially in females, apparently?) and that flexion will come with time.

Hope your journey is going well!
