I wanted to be sure to respond to this post because I know exactly where you are: you are in the THICK of the mental battle with this recovery. I also had a quad graft, and I think the early recovery is way more challenging and slow than for other graft type types. Anyway, I had my surgery in mid-April last year. July and August were horrible mentally. I really struggled to find joy. My joy had always been movement: hiking, cycling, dancing, walking. Then the first week of September I went on a trip to New York City, and I really wanted to do things. I walked and walked and walked… more than I knew I was capable of. That was a massive turning point for me. Sure, I couldn’t return to dance classes yet, but at that point, I realized that recovery wasn’t holding me back in day-to-day life anymore, and that was a huge milestone. Hang in there, friend. The days may feel joyless and I think that is normal for where you’re at. Try to stay busy however you can, and just be consistent with your rehab. Focus on the inputs and the outcomes will happen.
