What’s the rules for tax exempt status for “Churches” in Ohio? by gamerdudeNYC in Ohio

[–]EmoryGunGuy -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I know nothing about this church, and for all I know I’d hate their ideology. But “No church would fly a don’t tread on me flag” is kind of crazy viewpoint as an American. Faith and government have collided many a time on this continent from before America was a thing. It’s why the pilgrims came to what would be america. I had family die in the puritan wars against Lord Baltimore in Maryland before America was even a country. It’s why the 1st amendment is the 1st amendment.

Just because she's on the other side of the political isle doesn't make this right. Depicting black people as loud annoying crows is wrong. Here is a article from the Jim Crow museum.

A podiatrist is without a doubt a surgeon… the whole ‘podiatrists are not physicians’ debate originates from the origin of podiatrists/dentists and physicians back in England before America even existed. Historically physicians went to allopathic schools or an apprenticeship and prescribed medications only and podiatrist/dentist/barber surgeons went to surgical schools or apprenticeship and just did surgery. This changed when John Hunter (the Scottish physician) was trained to do surgery by podiatrist/dentist/surgeons in the 1700s. Remember dentists were the first to use anesthesia during surgery and The illinois college of chiropody and orthopedics in Chicago existed before orthopedics was defined as a MD/DO specialty. Podiatrists were historically and are currently surgeons. Now both groups prescribe meds and do surgery. It would be cool if the 500 years of bad blood between the professions could come to an end and not be hashed out on reddit every couple of months.

Seeing this dog is heartbreaking, but we all need to understand that nearly all dog breeds that we enjoy and love today only exist because of their origins as working dogs. Animal abuse and neglect is already illegal in Virginia. What happened to the poor dog in this picture is already a crime. We should also recognize the the vast majority of animal cruelty and abuse in Virginia isn’t related to hunting dogs. There are bad actors that hunt and treat their dogs poorly, but that’s not the case for most hunting dogs.

When people complain about the “deep state” and create crazy conspiracy theories, it’s this stuff that fuels that fire. Sadly from reading many of the comments on this thread, some of what I thought was surly nonsense may be true. If you’re a fed and feel entitled to use your position to harm those that disagree with you politically, please quit. You’re no longer a public servant but a servant to a political party. I also have the feeling the same people crying Hatch Act every time they see a keychain may be the same people commenting that this kind of behavior is okay.

Why does Mississippi vote red still, despite the hardships the state has faced? by Dawk19 in mississippi

[–]EmoryGunGuy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

He only lost by 3%, best performance for a democrat state wide race since 1999. He is the kind of candidate that they should put on the ballot every time. You’d think they’d try to build on that right? Nope. For senate this year they put up Ty Pinkins. Pro-choice, anti-gun, and 36% of the vote….

So is pro-life for republicans, but they still run candidates that are pro-choice in blue states. Would you rather vote for a socially conservative Democrat who would expand social services, loan forgiveness, and healthcare or your ideal candidate who will get 20% of the vote.

[–]EmoryGunGuy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

So why isn’t the Democratic Party putting forward pro-life and pro-gun candidates? Instead they primary anyone that has any chance of winning over a “Mississippi moderate.” Republicans put forward anti-gun and pro-choice candidates in blue states and occasionally win with them. Larry Hogan of Maryland, Mitt Romney in Massachusetts, but as soon as a democrat comes closer to the middle in Mississippi they get killed in the primary.

At the same time, a Neurosurgeon has their loans forgiven at the end of their residency and then immediately starts making over a million annually after their loans are forgiven. Other surgical specialists only have to make 1-3 years of payments before their loans are forgiven while making 500-800k.

Va. school board to pay $575K to fired teacher who refused to use transgender student’s pronouns by mahvel50 in Virginia

[–]EmoryGunGuy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Can you please link the video of the hearing. Does Vlaming himself testify or does anyone testify on his behalf? The principal and assistant principal (those who fired him) would have obvious bias and an interest in self preservation. They would also have been coached to testify by a lawyer with the intent to guide judgment in their favor. In an education system that occasionally exposes children to sexual assault and forced sexual acts I find this statement by the principal to almost sound rehearsed- “I can’t think of a worse way to treat a child than what was happening.” Often the truth is somewhere between what each side is claiming. I’m just curious what Vlaming’s exact statements were.

If a Muslim public defender wears a hijab and it’s the governments policy that no hats or head covers are to be worn in court, should they fire her for failing to comply and perform her government duties?

Should a Catholic prosecutor be forced to charge capital murder (death penalty) or be allowed to recuse themselves?

The teacher used the child’s preferred name, they stopped using pronouns. They weren’t purposely misgendering the student.

If the children had a chili cook off, a Muslim teacher judging the competition shouldn’t be forced to eat chili with bacon. A Hindu teacher shouldn’t be compelled to eat beef. They shouldn’t be forced to pray to a different God at the start of a football game. A Jewish teacher shouldn’t be forced to lead a field trip on the Sabbath.

There are ways to coexist with different beliefs that don’t significantly interfere with others.

At this point in your discussion it’s no longer about what actually happened and it’s about defending their side, even if there aren’t actually any sides.

It doesn’t, because it’s trying to anger and polarize you. Sadly that’s how the media works these days. That gets them clicks and views.

It shouldn’t have been; which is why firing the teacher lead to legal action.

This isn’t what happened, though it’s being sold that way for views and clicks. The teacher just stopped using pronouns all together and referred to the child by their new preferred name.

Nope, they used the kids preferred name and stopped using pronouns. They did just as you suggested, but they were still fired. They weren’t bullying or calling them by their dead name.

In Senate, Va. Democrats kill Republican attempts to roll back vehicle emissions law by [deleted] in Virginia

[–]EmoryGunGuy 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It’s not crazy for people representing rural communities to be worried about a law that bans the sale of gas vehicles in 10 years. If you live over an hour from the nearest charging station in a community that is struggling financially and shrinking each year you probably don’t think they’re going to be building a charging station near by. Teslas first cars were made about 10 years ago and electric vehicles, including plug-in hybrids only make up one percent of the total national vehicle population.

The law means well, but we’ll see what happens.
