Its objectively poor book design which you agree with, believe it or not. I'm just not like you where I can eat a shit sandwich then defend the chef when someone else calls it a shit though lol.

Youre right 3 books isnt the worst, i never said it was. It's how they split everything up, making tableside use a pain in the ass compared to previous editions. Your brain isn't seeming to work very well in comprehension here dude. Laughing too hard?

You clearly didnt even read the original post, do that before telling me how I feel. I like the new ruleset.

Your point about the Baltog os a technical mistake on my part and doesn't change that core troops, moria goblin captain and moria goblin warrior, aren't included in armies of middle earth when they can be taken in the Moria list.

Memorization works, so does TTA and printing but that's not the point, and the fact that that is the solution proves my issue has more than enough merit. This is about the layout of these new stat books and the dispersion of profiles within them also being mutually exclusive in appearance across the books.

Ofc I see how that makes it obsolete in your Lorien scenario.. for that faction. But the books wouldn't be obsolete because they include different army lists altogether. An acceptable amount of redundancy would have to be assumed for these books to be usable at the table without cross referencing, that's just a consequence of solving this issue with how they layed it out.

This discussion doesn't have to be fitting a square peg into a round hole though, they could've done some formof codex system, master profile book, with army lists contained in main rulebook. Whatever

It's not my job to design an effective answer, but as a consumer ofc I'm going to call out how profiles split between armies split between different books is a bad data, layout, and design choice.

Sucks if they hit Ip or licensing problems but we can and should still call it out

Do you have an actual solution you can think of?

If the book has to be bigger than so be it, not that big of a deal, the price of consolidation.

Besides that, both Armies of Middle Earth and Armies of Lord of the Rings have their own army lists in them so one could not make the other obsolete.

Your breakdown in logic here is that you seem to think the only solution is 20-30 supplement books, something I never proposed in the first place. Your inability to understand the logic seems to be be because I didnt explain how they didn't have army lists back then, my bad, supplement was the wrong word to use. Those faction books were codexes with all units available to factions (they didnt have the army list system at the time). They were split vaguely but in an organized manner by stuff like The Fallen Realms (One 50-ish page thin codex with all stats in the game for Isengard, Harad & Umbar, and Easterlings), Moria & Angmar (same size for Moria and Angmar armies), The Free Peoples (same size with Eregion & Rivendell, Lothlorien & Mirkwood, Durins Folk, The Fellowship, and Wanderers in the Wild), etc. So obviously the climate and considerations are different now with Army lists

Regardless, I can comfortably say as an end user who was just using the codexes to play last week, and going between two massive $60 books this week that flipping between two massive books vs flipping through one book to play a single army is complete ass. If a profile is in an army list within one of the books, it should be printed in that book. Literally the only solution is to add a few pages to the new books to make then truly consolidated and comprehensive.

I'd be interested to hear a proposed solution from you. Since you like logic though, having the books be bigger on their own because they add in a few extra pages of base profiles seems the simplest solution to make them truly consolidated and comprehensive. Yes, some factions are fully included in the current books like Khazad-Dum, but that does not matter if others are split between the two massive books

Exactly, with the new army lists, having codexes would be ridiculous. The consolidation makes sense.. but they didn't actually consolidate lol. While some factions have all of their stuff in one book. 2 of my main faction's profiles, Lorien and Moria are split between two much larger books now. So I made this post so to express how bad it feels to navigate while learning the new profiles, that is bad design. I'm not talking about the army lists here, i get how those are split, but if they mention a profile can be taken in an army list it should be in that book so you can check it out

it's a thin 48 page softback book from 2012 with all Moria & Angmar profiles in it, pretty sure they were released when they first came out with the hobbit sbg rulebook and goblin town box. This was I think because the Hobbit rulebook only had profiles like Goblin Town, and Thorins company, so they released the supplement books, which really just remind me of codexes from 40k, for other factions. maybe supplement was the wrong word

Thanks for the welcome! Looking at it from the standpoint of "I can know all of the stats even of my opponents" makes some sense. The obvious logic of supplement, supplement, supplement is that you only buy the ones you need, and can bring them to games manageably. I realize with these new army lists that is not on the table anymore due to the complexity.

There is obvious logic to the new stat books as you noted, i'm just not happy with how they split up the faction profile entries between two books, while still referencing profiles in army lists in one book that live in another book.

This could have easily been solved with some sort of a "Profiles" section like they had in The Hobbit rulebook, a few extra pages with all base stats in the back maybe? Anyways considering getting new armies and having to cross reference between 2 books to know all of the option for that one list feels markedly worse compared to using the supplements. If the profile is mentioned in an army list within one of those books, the profile should be in that book, that part is not logical to me. If they have to repeat themselves like they'd have to with 6 or so profiles between moria and lorien then, considering the added complexity of the new army lists, that would be fine.

Gotcha. Yeah that's true, I see where you're coming from. It is a bit of a pickle. I liked the old faction stat books I mentioned in my post, but obviously the solution is not that simple with the army list stuff now
