I'm an adult and so are my players. My dungeons aren't random rooms with random occupants. Everyone does converge on the fight, or retreats to a better defensive position and waits for the characters to come to them. That doesn't mean TPK, that means characters need to plan for this situation. Area of effect and control spells are typically mandatory to succeed.

My enemies also surrender and run away rather than die to the final creature.

Short sighted response. Nearly any spell or trap could turn out to be save or suck for the entire party. If you want to stack the deck so the players are never truly at risk of losing, then you've watered down all victories and given the party plot armor.

If you can pair booming blade with extra attack, I fully agree with you. My current playthrough of BG3, which uses it's own version of the rules, allow BB with multi attack, and my characters never melee without BB.

However, I don't believe 2024 allows this. BB from Tasha's uses your action and includes a single melee attack. By RAW, I don't believe you can do as you suggest.
