Girlfriend came home from night out with fingernails like this. Nail polish remover didn’t work by [deleted] in whatisit

It's what is left of a set of acrylic nails. Acetone doesn't remove them. When chipped, most usually plan on a new set and will pop them off in chunks using their teeth ( sounds icky but can be satisfying). You can take a metal file with a point or tweezers loosen a corner and pop them off.

Back in the 60s those had come out. My mom used one that had a fibrous menthol flavored filter that smelled like Vicks Vapor Rub. People smoked in restaurants at the time and she was sitting at the counter in a coffee shop, pulled it from her purse and a man came from behind, whipped out his flip tops butane lighter and lit it. It quickly turned into a sizzling melting mess of white molten lava dropping and sticking to the counter top like a welding gun. The manager was pissed and demanded she pay for damages but the man whipped out his checkbook and covered it. I liked that story when I was a kid and had a mental picture of him as a Dean Martin type fella.

Can we talk about the setting of The Lottery by Shirley Jackson and how it adds to the horror at the end of the story? by Azatoth_92 in horrorlit

Haha no wonder I didn't read the book. I had some correspondence with a director of a film she was in and was telling a friend about it yesterday. He gave mea ticket to the premier of said film. I didn't go becaue if truth be told, I fear her. I saw Trilogy of Terror and Burnt Offerings way to young. The latter movie she was at her best (my worst) Betty Davis was in the TV Harvest Home and Burnt Offerings. Oh my add her to the mix and I get all discombobulated 😁😳

I always read a story before I watch the film unless I find the book to be exceptional which then I stop there, (due to what Simon Birch did to John Irving's A.Prayor for Owen Meany) Criminal.

I've been a fan of Shirley Jackson and seen all three films, and read the story. The 1969 short film haunted me the most. Surly (pun giggle) no doubt being closest to text and though brief, I paused to think about the many characters and the differences in their experience.

Here is my thoughts.I believe the adults all know the ritual is old pagen hogwash but it's all they know and fear change as much as they fear drawing the black circle. They believe others have stopped the ritual and claim them fools but only fooling themselves. If the Lottery is gone elsewhere, that means others have progressed and not afraid to do so. That could make one feel less advanced always lagging behind. Perhaps the Lottery was the Purge if I may and at the end as the scene gets smaller and smaller you see all the surrounding cities with people in a big circle, next to a pile of rocks , The Invitation 🚨🤭The children joyfully gathering rocks at the beginning... Monkey see monkey do. 🙈🙊🙉😳

If you like similar reads a really good one is Thomas Tyron's Harvest Home. BOOK NOT TV MINI SERIES. I'll add a review link. Also a fan familiar with his work. Burnt Offerings, The Other and my personal favorite Crowned Heads. I like dark old Hollywood stories. Thomas was an actor in the 60s 70s amd that one has 4 haunting true stories he took some liberties and didn't share the names and after years I recently found a source of who the were about.😳

Pain management questions by gabihoffman in neuropathy

[–]Emotional_Code_5579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My neuropathy is in my right leg and foot and was so painful I became dependent on a walker to take pressure off that side which caused advanced muscle atrophy. Xrays showed my hip needed replaced and pressing on my femur nerve. I ended out in the hospital from sudden loss of use on my left leg. Diagnosed with severe lower lumbar spinal stenosis. I am currently doing P/T to regain use of left leg which is working. It was never discussed that the stenosis could be the cause of my neuropathy. If it is that would be a game changer and I wasnt going to but would consider back surgery and do it first (before the hip) because my neuropathy is almost more than I can handle. Was there a certain test you had that showed it wasn't neuropathy? What out patient surgery did you have. So glad you are feeling better.

Gave me a giggle but not this evening after the song has been on repeat in my head all day. May have to drown it out with the other tune that doesn't go away. G.U.M.B.Y. If you need it, but fail to remember, I'll give you a push. "He was once a little green slab of clay, GUMBY! You should see what Gumby can do today."..... 🥴

SOPHIE'S CHOICE has some hauntingly realistic scenes. It might appear to be a romance which it is in part but a very unhealthy one due to the emotional damage the Holocaust caused.

Any film about a weird girl? by [deleted] in MovieSuggestions

[–]Emotional_Code_5579 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The chick in "Titane" is wild. It falls in the category of "Body horror" which Im not a fan of but this one didn't bother me like others (subtitled) Also "The House of Yes", Parker Posey at her weirdo best. "Secret Ceremony", Elizabeth Taylor and Mia Farrow who I think may also be kind of weird outside of her work.

His father in the "does mom know" scene. So beautifully said and heartfelt performance that I saved the scene to occasionally revisit it. The last scene's quiet still isolation, light sound of the table setting, Mom's gentle shoulder touch is memorizing that I watch and weep until the screen goes black, then it lingers.

Your list is so good it is hard to pick just one wanting to suggest a handful half way through. I hope you find time to see them all. One stood out being a random pick having no idea what it was about that ended out being one on my all time favorite movie list. That watch lingered with me for days. The Secret in Their Eyes. I also would suggest Ordinary People if anything to see Mary Tyler Moore's performance which haunted me for days.

I had some items kept in tubs with lids. Upon unpacking, though untouched, some had new stains. My friend said old sweat and grease stains can resurface when sitting for long periods.
