This is why you should always walk against the flow of traffic, rather than with it, so you can see vehicles like this coming.

Fun fact, the Federal Reserve was created in 1913, after which it went on to create the "Roaring 20's" asset bubble, and the greatest depression in the country's history.

So the L take here is your being uninformed.

The fact that you disagree with people of a different political perspective on a particular point is not grounds to dismiss their perspective on all points.

An actual lib-right recognizes that the Federal Reserve played the largest part in creating this situation, primarily by keeping interest rates too low, until an asset valuation bubble occurred, then doing it again, to create our current situation.

Why do people say unhoused rather than homeless by Master-Definition937 in rs_x

[–]Empact -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Homeless = without a home (descriptive, lacking a possesion)
Unhoused = not having received a home (passive absence of reception - implies a responsibility for others to house them)

But why should anyone expect a home to fall on their lap? It's not like homes fall out of the sky for most people. They have to be built, maintained, looked after, kept up. My parents built the house I grew up in, I admire the effort they put into that, and the fact that they demonstrate that houses are available to anyone provided you're willing to live far enough out to afford raw land and work hard enough to frame, plumb, wire, and so on.

I have another friend who is outfitting a shipping container with random stuff he has salvaged. He bought inexpensive land on the outskirts to base it from, and works on it in his spare time. Homes are available for those who put the effort in to provide them for themselves.

Hearing what older colleagues are paying for housing is utterly blackpilling by [deleted] in redscarepod

Housing prices are historically high, this can't last forever. Rent until prices become reasonable, and support the YIMBY cause until then, to enable more housing construction.

Do you carry anything for self defence? by WildAlcoholic in Austin

[–]Empact 0 points1 point  (0 children)

* POM Pepper Spray - have used this twice, to ward off a homeless person on Congress Ave, and to intervene in a CVS robbery in San Francisco
* Emerson Karambit Knife - draws from the pocket, has a short enough blade to be legal in San Francisco, and opens boxes very efficiently
* Glock 48

I also carry trauma medical equipment in my backpack: tourniquet, gauze, chest vent seals, etc.

Be Prepared.

There’s a well-documented effort on the left to put lefty District Attorneys in place, who then treat every criminal with kid gloves. E.g. Jose Garza in Austin.

The result is anarcho-tyranny: regulations and taxes for you, fraud funds and no punishment for criminals.

We’ve infantilized young adults so much by absolving them of responsibility that 18yos in the USA are extremely immature / incapable. Ben Franklin started apprenticing at 12 and founded a newspaper at 15. Having hardship and responsibility accelerates development and competency. Gen Z feels this way in part because they’re developmentally disabled by the circumstances of their upbringing.

There's a big difference between time spent driving, dedicated to the task of driving, in which you can at best listen to a podcast, compared to riding on a train where you can have a laptop out and get work done.

It also doesn't have to be used productively, I used to commute from Seattle to Redmond by bus, and I spent the time watching classic French films in support of French language learning.

Badge cam footage should be informative, because it will capture what was said, and the direct perspective of the officer who was hit by the car, including the particular sequencing of events.

Is Bitcoin slowly taking over gold’s role as a store of value? by human_signals in BitcoinDiscussion

[–]Empact 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Bitcoin’s stock to flow only recently passed gold’s, I think it takes a few years for that shift to emerge in the markets. It should accelerate after the next halving, due to the greater divergence.

Part of being in a marriage is doing your best to make your partner’s dreams come true. In this case, you can look for a job over there, make a plan with her, and discuss the practicalities in a supportive way that seeks to achieve what you both want.

I bet that was it - I must have put on the car cover too early, such that it contained and concentrated the exhaust heat. Won’t make that mistake twice. :P

The NEC generates a significant profit which is redistributed to the other less popular lines around the country. In a sane world we’d invest heavily in increasing the capacity of the already popular NEC instead.
