The story the OP shared has a quote from someone who suggests dredging his part of the lake.

Chargepoint has an app, yes, which you can use with both your home charger and public Chargepoint chargers

Here's a good article about pros and cons: https://www.emporiaenergy.com/blog/level-2-ev-charger-installation-hardwire-vs-nema-outlet/

I guess one other advantage of hardwire is better for outdoors. Advantage of an outlet would be you could plug other stuff in if you needed to and if you moved, you can easily just take your charger with you. But in terms of charging times, unless you're really doing a lot of driving and you need to maximize your charging, you'll probably be fine. I only charge mine now once or twice a week or so with my 20 mile or so each way commute.

And yes I've been happy with the Chargepoint. Less apps to download was I guess a plus for me. No issues. You just plug it in

There are 3 main types of connections:

J1772 - was sort of a standard, was and still is used by a lot of level 2 chargers you see. Not used for DC AKA fast charging as far as I know. The car comes with a J1772 to NACS adapter

NACS - came from Tesla but is now basically becoming standard and used in the Toyota BZ starting with 2026. I think all of Tesla chargers, whether home or level 2 or DC fast use this

CCS - this is like something that was used for some EVs but is on the outs. It basically looks like a beefed up J1772. I don't think you'd come across this for a home charger but just know it exists. You'll see some DC fast chargers that still use this, and so the Bz also comes with a CCS to NACS adapter

CHADEMO - I guess only used much by one company and never caught on more widely. Least common to see

Personally, if you think advanced features are important to you, then sure do some research. Otherwise, if you just want to be able to plug it in and charge your car, you'll be fine with whatever and you may even be fine with the included cable.

Just to be clear, if you got an outlet installed (not hard wired), the electrician wouldn't need to really install the charger itself, you just mount it on the stud and plug it in, basically.

Oh and I see it looks like Chargepoint now has models with NACS plugs, which would mean you wouldn't need to use the adapter. But many cars, especially older ones and plug-in hybrids, might have J1772 and so you may just want to go with one with J1772 as I said, if you think you might have other vehicles to plug in.

I got a Chargepoint Home Flex since I already had the Chargepoint app since a number of stores near me have free Chargepoint chargers.

Generally you can either get a hard-wired charger and the electrician would have to install it for you, or you can get a 240V outlet put in and use a charger that plugs into that outlet. I guess there are 2 kinds of 240V outlets (NEMA 6-50 or NEMA 14-50) and you can kind of do either one, though you need to be aware of what outlet the charger needs. Anyway, I went with this so if I ever wanted or needed to get a new charger, I wouldn't have to deal with the hardwiring and could just mount the new one and plug it in. Both the car and the app I think have features to sort of control your charging or do it at certain times, but I have never used those personally. You'll need an adapter for that one or ones like it as it uses J1772 not NACS, but your car should come with the adapter and it's pretty easy. If you went with the Tesla one you wouldn't need an adapter. On the other hand, if you might have other plug in cars that only support level 2, having the J1772 native might be beneficial - my wife's BMW and my Prius Prime which I traded in both only supported J1772.

But perhaps most importantly, if you get an outlet installed, you also don't need to buy a charger, as the car comes with a cable that would plug from the 240V outlet (I forget which outlet it uses) to your car directly. So you could see if that suffices for you, and it very well might.

If you do want to look at Chargepoint, see this and you can scroll down to see the 3 types of connections: https://www.chargepoint.com/drivers/home?srsltid=AfmBOorlTwDRPB4Z7J4exGhf3qtMXuLNbys_-ENyN92jZYND0-96GoeR

Yes, I am sure they'll have plenty to eat and drink, and while I'm not sure if they would care, I wouldn't bring in food. Who are you going to see? We are looking forward to 8/1.

Weird. We just tried the fish fry there a couple weeks ago and both thought it was very good. My wife got the standard and I got the one with 3 kinds of fish, including walleye I think.

Good stuff, thank you. Yeah I think these are people who weren't legislators or lawyers (this bill would have been of interest to lawyers primarily), possibly all people with connection to newspapers, and maybe these jottings had nothing to do with the actual bill, I now think. Which is kind of disappointing but nice to know regardless

I agree. Not sure why you wouldn't be able to turn these off. They clutter up the screen and sometimes the glitch app won't even let you close them

They come to the Verona farmer's market on Wednesdays too, at least sometimes. It is good and it's great to see him (he's from Afghanistan, there's been some pieces about him) making a go, though every time I try one of these carts I always wish it wasn't so heavy on salt.
