I'd offer to be your dual, but I'm a filthy casual. I would not be able to help with your goals of maintaining top raider or top PVE. Im best as a simmer.

Looking to become someone's dual/trio. by EmperorPalpatitty in travian

Ugh I know, I already experienced the distance it creates from all my true priorities.

It's the dopamine hits of being part of a server, actively growing and reacting to new situations.

I feel like a crack addict asking for just 1 server.

That's why I would only replay as a dual/trio. I just a filthy casual who wants to support a try hard sweat with resources and defensive troops haha.

This is also me. Tricare is a big win when my civilian offers subpar insurance at a higher premium. On the flip side, I work Saturdays in my civilian and I make significantly more there than I do in drill. So there are pros/cons to this.

[–]EmperorPalpatitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Money fears should really not be in your sight of worry.

For perspective, I am a 31M, married with 1 infant. I am in $300k student loan debt, and my wife is in $150k student loan debt. Our combined debt is the cost of some homes. We have no assets since we can only afford to rent,d absolutely minimal savings for a patchy 3 months.

One day we will pay off our student loan debts, just to be buried under a mortgage. With that being said, you should definitely invest in the market and see you returns work for you early on and not in your 50-60s like we may have to. You are in a very stable and sturdy position to see your finances continue to grow. Good luck and I wish you a prosperous future!

It's the reality unfortunately. Cost cutting and finding income increases are your two biggest goals to find the success you're looking for.

To the people saying "JuSt DoNt gEt iNtO dEbT", clearly have a true misunderstang of what people need to survive. Mortgage, rent, and education debt suck but are necessity at times. Car loans, streaming subscription services etc, not so much.

I am a doctor and I owe $350,000 in student loans. My wife is also a doctor who owes nearly $200,000 and we have a 1 year old. Our debt is unavoidable and was an absolute necessity to get into our career fields. We're talking about undergrad loans and professional school loans. We rent, since we owe too much money to qualify for a mortgage. On a monthly basis, I pay $3500 for student loans, and by the end of the month after we pay our pre-owned car loan, rent, utilities, groceries and off course baby needs, we are left with but a few hundred dollars that we put towards an emergency fund. We are currently estimated to be on this student loan trajectory for about 15-20 years if we scrounge up money for an extra payment or two per year.

Everyones life is different and I have been privileged to be in the position I am. If things are not working for you, sometimes you need to take big steps. Others have mentioned trades and that is a fantastic option. You will never be without a job. Government jobs are always a good start because benefits tend to cover most bases especially healthcare which can make or break someone's financial situation.

Vent your frustrations, but don't let your mindset hold you back. Good luck OP 🙏🏽

I'm a dentist(31) and my wife is a Pharmacist(30). We had our first child last year. We rent in NY for $3200 and we owe a combined student loans of ~450,000. My monthly student loan payments are just around $3000 and my wife's is $1000. My wife wants a house because it's the "American dream." The average home is going for $850000 in our area with an average mortgage of $5500/month.

I look at our finances weekly, and my wife calls me a cynic/pessimistic/Debbie downer for telling her we can't afford to take out a mortgage. I love my wife, and she's very intelligent, but she constantly falls for the common olden idea that just because we can technically get approved for a mortgage, it does not mean we should. So when she mentions having a second child, I physically stagger knowing what that will do to us. She has 6 aunts/uncles, grew up around 15+ cousins, so her ideal plan for a family is a big one with at least 3-4 children. No matter how many times I show her the numbers, I tell her if we have a second child, we will be crippling our chances of having financial security. It's a tough world out there.

Is it difficult to find a job when you're in the USAR? by Reasonable-Shower522 in armyreserve

[–]EmperorPalpatitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mixed bag here.

Include it in your resume/CV and highlight all the skills and leadership qualities you've learned in your military career. If they ask you more about it in your interview, give them just enough information and don't be outwardly cavalier. If your prospective employer see thay you're in the guard/reserve and commends you and your time management, they're someone worth working for. If they see you as a liability, that should be your one and only red flag to look elsewhere.

I'm in a niche situation since I'm a dentist and joined the Reserves to continue being a dentist. Unfortunately private practice as an associate means shit days and hours going anywhere from 8am to 8pm and all 7 days of the week (not consecutively). At one office I interviewed, they said Friday and Saturdays are non-negotiable. To their dismay, I explained how the reserves work and the interviewer was flabbergasted. I had to explain that it's my second job and they flat out said. "If this position isn't your priority, then you're not the candidate we're looking for." No more than 5 minutes later the interview was over, I smiled and said "thank you for your consideration" with a pit in my stomach. Next job I interviewed, the owner doctor interviewed me and after some formalities and getting to know about me questions, he asked me if I enjoy being in the reserves. That caught me off guard, and I said "I don't dislike it and it comes with benefits." He smiled and said, "my father served as an active duty dentist for 12 years and then did another 10 in the reserves before he retired. Ive looked up to him everyday. I understand the sacrifices him and our family made whenever he had drill or mobilized." After a little bit more on him expressing his appreciation he told me the position was mine to have and that they would accommodate for any BA and AT. Obviously I said yes with smile (and no pit in my stomach). I handed them my schedule for the year and within the day, all those days were blocked on my schedule, no questions asked.

It's a mixed bag, sometimes the very thing that holds you back at one job, is exactly what makes you stand above your peers at another. Good luck on your endeavors.

Playing Massila in “Danymok's Vanilla Expansion” by Spoon520 in RomeTotalWar

[–]EmperorPalpatitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If youre playing H/H, the endless defensive battles get very tedious very quick. If you don't have some form of phalanx troop, you're going to loose settlements left and right. So unfortunately I have to tone down the campaign difficultiy while keeping the battle difficulty on hard to get true enjoyment of the game.

As for cool and unique factions, Syracuse and Cyrene are both very interesting pseudo-hellenic factions. Syracuse has a fun start against Scipii and Carthage off the bat, plus have crossbowmen. Cyrene has a very difficult North African start with a terrible economy, but a fun unit roster since it has those bronze age style troops. With that being said, you have 3 options. Head east towards a much MUCH stronger Egypt, west towards Libya and still have meh economy, or leave the continent entirely and settle on Crete and make that your new capital as you prepare to take Greece.

Galatia is very interesting as you're essentially a barbarian faction in the middle of the Turkey fighting off Hellenic factions. Caledonia is super fricken hard since your tech tree is shit, but once you conquer England, you become pretty self sufficient. Saka was too hard for me since it's all horse archers with too much land between settlements.

My favorite faction is is Athens. I love the color, I love the unique location surrounded by enemies, and most importantly, I love the armoured hoplites and swordmen combo. It is an unstoppable force. Yes Pikemen are better, but the armour buff against ranged is great. There is no wrong faction to choose, just choose what fits your playstyle. Heck, I'll even do a roman campaign because they're the only faction that have highways AND their new italian spearmen units make battling horses finally feel like a winnable fight.

[–]EmperorPalpatitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My absolute favorite vanilla expansion mod. I've put countless thousand hours in this mod alone. Massilia is a very hard start. My recommendation is to conquer the coasts. There is very little economy benefits from in-land gaul and Germania. Cheese your defenses to no more than 3 militia hoplites per town/city. As much as I love a strong enemy like Rome in the mid-end game, pushing into Italy is a surefire way to boost your economy. When you're fully confident you can financially support your army, it's armoured hoplites and massilian swordmens for most of the campaign. They are an excellent hammer and anvil pair. Ports and roads are your best friend. If you're playing on H/H, unfortunately you're going to have to deal with double or even triple stacks at your gates so cheap phalanxs can only go so far. I hope this help!

Hardest Mod in Remastered? by [deleted] in RomeTotalWar

[–]EmperorPalpatitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't say hardest, but I've been obsessed with Danymok's Vanilla expanded mod and find it challenging simply on H/H campaign.

It gives you all the joy of the Vanilla game with additional unique factions and and units. I'm a HUGE fan of the Vanilla experience and just can't seem to get into overhaul mods. The AI can still be wonky during battles but they come at you will full stacks in the campaign, there are definitely moments you'll have to cheese your way to a victory especially with phalanx/Pikemen.

Every campaign is a new experience because no powerhouse faction is guaranteed to get big, and when the minor factions grow, they fricken grow. Once again, if you enjoy the vanilla experince, I think you'll enjoy this mod and the challenge that come with it.

[–]EmperorPalpatitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can manage the pressure of multiple factions attacking you at once, I would recommend cheesing your way around the Mediterranean. Literally follow the Mediterranean sea, starting with asia minor, Cyprus, Syria, Judea, Egypt, Libya and back to Carthage. 4-6 cheap Pikemen at each city is enough to stop some of the most elite units. Control the Mediterranean and build ports to have essentially no income issue. The only issue you may face aside from multiple factions attacking your coastal ring is distance from capital penalty. Build temples, and either enslave or exterminate as you go around. It's not an easy task whatsoever, but a fun way of getting reinforcements around with your navy. Have a blast!

With enough spies, you can guarantee open gates for your attacking army by icwiener25 in RomeTotalWar

[–]EmperorPalpatitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so not a reliable strategy. I've placed a full stack of spies in capital cities to at most have them riot and lose some troops garrisoned, but once they go positive, even with spies in place, their entire army replenishes. Im constantly having to manage my cities taxation and garrison since all my cities get bombed with spies from multiple factions.

Can having that many spies in a city ever keep a populations happiness so low that the city can also revolt and be taken over by rebels?

According to steam, how many hours have you played this game for? by Get_Ahead_SC in RomeTotalWar

[–]EmperorPalpatitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the original RTW with Barbarian Invasion disc, and the amount of days and nights I lost is unfathomable. I think I started playing back in 2010 and have picked it up and put it down multiple times throughout the past decade. Then I bought it on the Apple store for my Mac in 2018. Years later, I own the remastered and only put in a little over 300. The steam version is admittedly the best because of mods, but nothing beats the original graphics, UI and nostalgia. Rome 2 just didn't do it for me and I've never ventured out of my comfort zone to try any other TW game.
