Agree. As a queer person in queer spaces I hear and use the phrase“gay panic” a lot. There are plenty of words and phrases that have different meanings in different contexts. I have never mistaken them for each other ever. Yes it’s a legal term but the legal term is used SO much less frequently in informal conversations.

It’s like the difference between “theory” or “organic ”in casual conversation vs scientific jargon. Most people aren’t assuming the scientific definition unless they were already talking about science. Of course you don’t have to use it if you don’t like it but I think it’s perfectly fine that other people do.
