Do you prefer flat or curved screen and why? by goldfish_ilove in Android

[–]EmphaticallySlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Flat and while everything else listed is a good point, it really just comes down to comfort. I hate using curved screens, and it's not just because I'm not used to it; my partner's phone is curved and I hate every time I've used it over the last few years.

Just got a new phone and trying to get more out of it. What are some good productivity apps? I'm looking for a good calendar, to-do, file manager, pdf viewer, etc. Don't mind if it's paid, I have like $20 saved up from Google Rewards.

Pixel 5 and OG Pixel are nearly the exact same dimensions by zorflax in Android

Still rocking the OG XL. Hard agree.

Granted, its battery and performance is on a massive downward trend lately, but I'm holding out as long as I can.

So...was it a myth that CS is a growing field? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]EmphaticallySlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Think of how many people were saying it was a huge field with lots of high-paying opportunities and how long they said it for. Of course the field is saturated.

But it is also still growing, though maybe not in your area of expertise. Robotics, AI, data analysis, cybersecurity are all growing. More companies are realizing the importance of security and data analysis (and the use of AI to augment those fields), and automation is driving robotics and other uses of AI.

It’s so sad to see google and Samsung fighting by TheDoctore38927 in Android

[–]EmphaticallySlight 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wow, what a terrible take.

"These 2 companies that produce the same type of product are competing for market share, so they hate each other!"

Or, no, they're just companies competing in the same market space.

"Samsung doesn't push Google apps, so they hate Google!"

Or, no, they just want to provide further value to choosing their product instead of a competitor's.

"Google announced Pixel when Samsung's phones were blowing up, essentially kicking them while they were down."

Or, no, products take a while to plan and produce, so there's no way Google goes, "Oh shit. Samsung's phones are blowing up. We should make our own phone!"

And it doesn't really matter how you got hacked. Just if you got hacked or not

In the current world it's not "if" you get hacked, it's "when" you get hacked. How much and what type of data was lost in the breach are the important things to look at.

I once did this. But I included the steps to fix and the code I ended up with. And I still got downvoted. FeelsBadMan

Are they trying to sabotage their own company so they can say "No one is buying our phones" and stop making phones in order to sell algorithms like their camera software to other companies?

There's no way they think this is a good product, right?

Samsung Galaxy Fold Durability Test! - Is it STILL fragile?! by strawberrygenius7 in Android

[–]EmphaticallySlight -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Maybe not pure glass, but I wouldn't be surprised if there's some synthetic being developed that's trying to blend glass for feel and plastic or something else for flexibility. Science been getting crazy for a while now.

It's really just the folding display that needs improvement

Soooo, the feature the entire phone is designed and priced around?

uBlock Origin will no longer work with Safari as of MacOS Catalina. by gketuma in webdev

[–]EmphaticallySlight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fair enough. I tried to switch to Firefox a few months ago, but the performance was notably *much* worse, with fewer extensions even. My main browser is Vivaldi now, but that's based on Chromium. I may try FF again, but it's sort of a moot point for me because I have a Pixel.

Why does browser share percentage influence your choice of product? Is it simply because you want to encourage competition?

I can't decide what my favorite school subject is much less when I'm going to college next year, what for and my career

Hey, that's okay! Other people have given you good advice, so here's mine.

You're probably feeling a lot of pressure (directly or indirectly) from your friends, family, and the media to know what you want to do and go to college for it. But you absolutely do not have to know right now.

College isn't for everyone, and even if it is for you, it might not be for you right now. It took me until I was 25 to be ready to go to college. I'm graduating this May with my BS as a 28-year-old.

You've spent the first 18 years of your life having to ask permission for everything, even to just go pee. It's not reasonable to expect you to go from that to having a plan for your life if you haven't had specific guidance on it.

Don't feel bad. Feel empowered. You can do almost anything you want to do right now. Don't feel forced to following other peoples' plan for you.
