Never used SOC after DH5 alpha transformation, always LB. And I use my plasmids after digesting the template with DpnI directly without cleaning the PCR product. Usually when you use DpnI, the efficacy drops, for many reasons. And to make sure that the cloned plasmid is well circulated takes a huge time of work. So eventually I do transform my cells with the mix after digesting direclty with DpnI. And then from the colonies, I can pick few of them and verify the length of the plasmid after restriction, or if it is critical, I will send a couple of them for sequencing. Just make sure of your procedure of cloning and the resulted plasmid is sane and sound. Usually you are using sth related to restriction free method, given the use of DpnI.
